Speedy recovery bud. The bike can always be patched up. Hopefully you will be back to fighting fit for the summer.

I take it the tank is dented and not the frame banana'd
The fact you actually have the bike and not a recovery company is a good thing
It will probably cost them more to recover the bike from you than "their" scrap value so maybe help you keeping it
Also if you have any rough spares I'd be swapping them over lol
I do know of a UK matching frame and cases but not cheap

I've not notified insurance yet. Probably wont as sure driver not claiming. Literally a mark on his bumper and smidge of red paint on the rear door. The back flat part of the tank is pushed in. Must have hit it on my way forward with my huge balls Paint is not broken so maybe a paintless dent repair. not creased.

Mick, those dent guys can work miracles, so don’t dispair yet.
Chin up, and hope you feel better soon.

Cheers Jon. I'd think they could do quite easily as corners not creased & paint not cracked and it should just be flat across. Seen some videos of much worse dents being done. There is a place just up the road that does it. will have a looksie when i am able

I’m amazed you hadn’t fractured your pelvis, or at best flattened your ‘gentleman vegetables’ looking at the pics of your tank Mick!!. Balls of steel springs to mind! 😂. On a serious note though, I’m glad you’re up and about and at least able to contemplate repairs to the bike 👍🏻.

a good friend of mine who shall remain nameless (he's on here) crashed a brand new bandit 1200 into a parked transit van mangling the side door. the owner of the van came up to my house the following day, he said tell your mate not to worry abot the van, i rolled it down an embankment last night.

Thanks mate. Has been lined with POR15. Will check it out when I start to sort it all. Van drivers company is not claiming so that's one thing I guess.

That’s good news Mick.
Depending on repair costs this one might be better off being repaired under the radar then.

It's a bonus that the insurance aren't getting involved
I had a minor shunt in the car last Thursday and it hardly touched mine but other driver's door is creased so they have gone full on insurance claim , hire car the full monty ! Didn't need that :-(

It’s a shame it was such a clean YPVS before, but I’m sure it could have been a lot worse.
Are your fork seals weeping slightly? If so you may want to take this downtime to replace them.
I’m surprised at the lack of fork travel though. Only about 70mm out of the 140 quoted. You couldn’t have been that hard on the brakes, especially with those thriumph calipers.

Jon, fork seals were perfect. Think it was just the compression & impact that did that.Rebuilt over winter all genuine bushes seals etc. Have a spare set of rebuilt forks but the lowers are not polished so wondering wether to swap stantions over or polish the spare pair🙄 As for the brakes I didn't get chance to grab them. Looking at the video the wheel hit the bumper, forks compressed, I went flying over the front, the bike landed on me. I don't think the van had completely stopped or only for a second because it was moving forward as I fell still. Think bike sprung back a little.

Mick, I didn’t get the feeling you were hard on the brakes from the photo.
If I were you, I’d think of this as a lucky escape.
It could have ended far worse for the bike and you.

Just throwing this out there.............what is everyone's thoughts on this.......i'm pretty sure my stanchions are bent from the accident.....what do you think the chances are of the lower legs being bent?? Or a way to check if they are? I know the forks compressed which absorbed some of the impact and i believe the van had not completely stopped, if it did it was only momentarily as it was about another 10 foot down the road when i got up. Just wondering wether to swap the stanchions from my spare forks to my current lowers to save hours of polishing.

Lowers usually fine
Swap the stanchions over then without springs or caps on push the stanchions in and out to check for sticking

You can then roll the two stations together and check for small gaps in between them. Jon

Mate i hope you recover well and quick, lovely bike too
The mid panel mounts can be repaired with liquid plastic
I did a set for my rebuild, instead of the fins under the plate just make into a 1/4 round solid mass
As said the lowers shouldn't be bent, I'd bet the stanchions are though, unless its an optical illusion you can see the bend in the LH one in your second photo
As said the dent guys can do an amazing job, I've seen far worse than your tank be repaired

Cheers. The mid mounts i have the broken bits to so will either weld them back or cut a new half section and weld that in as its only the end part of the lug. Have emailed dent guy. Have stripped forks. Yep they are bent. left Right

Hi Mick,
I was going on about checking if they were bent if you weren’t sure. In your case I can see that that is not necessary.
It was they ‘pretty sure their bent’ that got me thinking maybe you were unsure.
