What are your expectations of a test ride ? Yep they be slow, yep they don't handle, yep they don't brake. Mate this isn't the latest jap 4 that you are comparing to another jap four. Keep the rose tinted googles on remember what they were when you had hair and could get into a 28 inch waist jean get one get out and spank it. Just to see that I can physically ride the thing without getting wrist, back or knee ache. cycle-ergo.com/This site gives me a 19 degree forward lean for example, my current bike is zero and I've been use to that for a long time now,.....I kind of ruined my joints due to power lifting/gym work etc during my twenties, I certainly can't ride the likes of an R1 any more. I don't remember my LC's feeling like I were leaning forward much but that were a long time ago. Come over to Cadwell on Friday 22nd. It's MSV's classic bike track day. I imagine loads of LC's will be there. Sparx is going on his hybrid, and no doubt plenty of others as well. I'm going but taking The Wolf, one of my VJ21's and a VJ22 (in-case it rains).

Thanks for the invite, doubt that I can make it then though. Thing is, even if someone were willing to let me ride their pride & joy, I'm guessing that the bikes there will be far from standard form,...... I know for sure that the likes of clip on bars and rearsets are not for me.

I'm guessing that most of you on here owned an LC back in the 80's when you were a young lad? I certainly did, I have a few questions for you. 1. What's the main reason you own one now, surely it's not the only bike you own? 2. Do you actually ride it much or tend to look/polish it more, keeping it to sell for a profit in the future? 3. If you do ride it, how reliable can a 40 year old vehicle be? Do you find it really difficult to get parts?? 4. How do you find the 'riding experience' of this bike now you are middle aged? I used to race TZs back in the 70's (now aged 60) and got back into bikes a couple of years ago. I bought an older RSVR to do some track days (I live near Laguna Seca) and experience a modern bike with current race tyres, which was great, although I didn't like all that engine braking (no slipper clutch). Then I bought a Z1 and a Trident, since I figured that original or mint restored classic bikes hold their price while you use them. Sold the RSVR (ticked the bucket list so no need to keep it). Then i got the modding bug an bought a ZRX which I spent a lot of money on (Ohlins, brembos, wheels, exhaust, flat slides etc etc) which was great but too capable and a bit boring. Wife didn't like going on the back either. So I sold the ZRX (I had to strip all th epart off it and sell separately), and then bought a CBX (just for the sound - put a 6 into 1 on it). Then I got a mostly restored RD350B, finished that off, and just found it great fun to ride - brought back the old TZ days. That gave me the 2 stroke bug back again: I bought an RD400D to do a full resto (in progress) and a mint low mileage KR replica RZ350. Next up will be a YPVS hybrid. Going to sell the 4T bikes when we move back to UK, but I will never sell the RD400 (restoring it has given me kind of a bond with it) and the RZ350, which i love the look of. Just love steaming into a bend and stamping on the gearbox... and if I want to go to the shops I can be there and back on the RD by the time the CBX is warmed up. Where I live its all Harley riders and not many people have ever ridden a 2 stroke - they think 2 stokes hole a piston or seize every few miles. Back in the 70s and 80s in the UK we commuted on them since hey were the most fun and we couldn't afford Z1s etc. As others have said, lots of parts available and easy to work on the RD/LCs. For me the relevant Forum is also an important part of enjoying the bike you have. I a active on the Aircooled forum and although have not posted on here much I enjoy reading the threads. I was active on the US and UK ZRX Forums (my build won 2016 bike of the year on the US forum), but especially the ZRX UK forum has a lot of c**ks on there. Completely different on air-cooled and RDLC forums. I think another attractive point about RD or LCs is higher bars - most blokes our age don't want to ride around the streets on a sports bike with clipons. A TZR 3XV would be great for track days, but I personally wouldn't ride one on the street. You can't go wrong with a standard RD or YPVS, or a hybrid - or both. I just wish I wasn't 5 stone heavier than I was when I raced... Don Flickr practice... 20170902-IMG_3817 by don potter, on Flickr
