Welcome to the site. I can only speak for me and say because I'm a sentimental old t**t with too much money and not enough time. I have lost my hair, weigh 2 stone more and I'm rapidly approaching 50. I will never be 18 again but I want to t**t about on a bike that isn't going to kill me at 160 plus I've sold my big bikes last one 1200 monster because these things are like methamphet and get right under your skin. You will spend too much cash and time on here. This site is populated by and large by blokes who had one back in the day hence little ego, loads of knowledge and a friendly attitude. Just do it, worst thing that happens is you start wearing patchouli or seeking out a pair of Frank Thomas paddock boots to complete the look and you won't lose money on these bikes.

And to add to Bare's point. Lots of guys modify their bikes now coz that's what they did back in the day. How many Lc's or Pv's did you see riding around bog stock when you originally owned one ? There is still a healthy market in non standard parts, and for me, modifying them is part and parcel of owning them. I don't think for one minute mine will be better than anything else, but I don't do it to compete with anyone else. It's each to their own . Having said that, my Rgv forks are stiffer than the Lc's 32mm originals, my box section arm is far stronger than the bendy original, the modern tyres make a huge difference, and modern brakes are miles better than originals. But if you want to keep it standard then that's great - there are plenty of happy, standard bike owners on here, and it's arguably harder to build a correct, original Lc than a hybrid nowadays. Do what makes you happy Dusty I remember one of mine had a rad guard and probably other cosmetic bits that weren't standard for the year, I don't mind that,....it's noisy Micron's and extreme engine mods that I'm not really a fan of. Times have moved on Now we have noisy TSA's and totally mental engine mods. The modded engines not really a problem these days. With modern oils a tuned engine can still be reliable. Back in the day mineral oils, poor maintenance and finger in the air jetting choices were what made them unreliable Dyno tested fuel/air mixtures are a God send now Steve

I live in the country , great to ride the lanes . Theyre a great little city bike too . You might have to build the thing up to know it's right , but there's nothing like riding a bike you put together yourself .

And you'll rarely, if ever, have to put it into a shop to be serviced/repaired/worked on. Rebores and crank builds aside, virtually everything is achievable with basic tools at home. Cant say that for many modern bikes.

I had a 350 LC back in the day and bought a 250 LC 10 years a go and promptly fitted a YPVS engine although I had never ridden a YPVS powered bike ! But my Hybrid HAD to have original LC clocks, footrests, switch gear, twin horns, indicators, Gilly seat (can't spell it) etc for that nostalgic feel
Doing another one now but hard to steer away from the first one in what I want to do to it , being different can turn up a dog's dinner You have been warned LOL

I'm guessing that most of you on here owned an LC back in the 80's when you were a young lad? I certainly did, I have a few questions for you. 1. What's the main reason you own one now, surely it's not the only bike you own? 2. Do you actually ride it much or tend to look/polish it more, keeping it to sell for a profit in the future? 3. If you do ride it, how reliable can a 40 year old vehicle be? Do you find it really difficult to get parts?? 4. How do you find the 'riding experience' of this bike now you are middle aged? In one way I'd like to buy/own an LC again but I do wonder a) how much I'd actually use it, considering that I own a modern 1200cc bike and b) will my perception of ownership now be totally different considering that I'm not 19 any more. I had 3 LCs from when I was 17 to 23, a 125 full fairing in Marlborough colours thought I was the dogs bo##ocks😂 250 in wranglers colours drop bars n microns then a standard 350 lc that ended its life in a side of a car:( ive had various fours on the rd and have raced bikes on and off for 20yrs (2 and 4 stroke) I've just recently bought a project 350 and I'm like a little kid again I can't wait to get it done! how much I'll use it? Hopefully loads😁

Where do you live ? There is bound to be a forum member near you and may let you have a go on their Lc ! And if you buy a good example and cant get on with it, wait till next summer and sell it for more than you paid for it (judging by the way prices are going !!) Dusty I'm in South Lincolnshire, half an hour away from Peterborough. Happy to turn up at a meet and have a look at other owners bikes etc, wouldn't expect to have a go of one unless I'm about to buy it. I'll try to get reacquainted with one at a bike shop/dealer before hand.

Stafford Classic Bike show is on 14 - 15th October. Norbo will be running a stand with lots of members Lc's. I'm sure someone will be near you if you want a look in the meantime. And try Peter James insurance for a quote. Always very good when I've used them Dusty

Keep popping the Sanatogen and riding the hybrid should pose no problems Dusty I have wondered if it's only us guys in our 40's and 50's who want these 1980's RD's? I mean, the youth of today don't seem to want anything 'old' when it comes to vehicles from what I've seen, an old neighbour bought he's 17 year old son a 3 year old car, he just wouldn't entertain anything older! A 1980 vehicle doesn't have much appeal or hold any memories for the younger person I guess. If this is truly the case, won't the prices of these bikes reach their peak at some point, once all of us in the quoted age bracket become too old to ride or lose interest in general I'm thinking.

Also struggling with insurance carole Nash quoting £500!!! only pay £120 for my fazer 1000, Licence clean, no convictions, blah blah You must be looking at 2 separate policies there..You can only use NCB on 1 bike/policy..I remember Swintons quoting me more for my LC than the Hayabusa some time ago... You may have to cancel your Fazer policy and take out another classic policy for both...I pay less than £300 FC for my Honda Firestorm, RD500 (agreed value ) , 350LC (agreed value) and my KR1 from Carole Nash..

The price bubble issue gets mentioned a fair bit. Prices have rocketed in the last couple of years, both for parts and complete bikes and shows no sign of slowing yet.

a respectable car from the 80,s is pretty much just like a bike from the same era for most youngsters these days Uninsurable !!! Imo ... I,ve had 2 p/v,s since I was 18 one I still got today albeit being totally overhauled , used it near enough everyday for nigh on 20yrs rain or fruzz until I was forced too passed my car test.. I got a couple of other valve engines that I,ve used in all my other hybrids inc my TZ racebike..Testimony to the point if u look after them serve u well... Back too insurance do a search on here an you,ll find a few companies who are highly recommended....
