Thanks Only had a couple of hours on it this morning so wanted a quick job to do. I was thinking about where the floor bearers sit of the base, and how I could protect them from the weather. First, I painted the visible parts of the bearers with weather proof black paint, and then bought some 2" Arris rail from the builders merchant up the road. The idea being the rain runs down the wall, onto the angled rail and away from the bearers; 20170624_093729 by David Miller, on Flickr And painted and screwed to the bearers; 20170624_111036 by David Miller, on Flickr Need to get 3 more lengths but I will end up going around the whole shed. There is still a gap above the rail at the front and back of the shed which will allow air flow beneath it. Dusty

Weather pretty wet this week so I have been doing some jobs inside the shed. As I am concentrating on one half of the shed at a time, I have been insulating and lining the walls. There are some fiddly bits around the roof bearers and the windows which take some time and lots of measuring to get right. Cant help but feel I'm a bit "anal" with it, but having spent weeks waiting for it, and all the time planning on how I wanted it, I'm now going a bit over the top with it - bit like my bike builds then !! I've got to remember it's just a shed/workshop at the end of the day ! I am enjoying doing it though - I always like a summer, garden project . 20170629_132626 by David Miller, on Flickr 20170625_175903 by David Miller, on Flickr Due to the large gap at the top of the walls where the roof sits, I've made some soffits which will stop birds or squirrels getting in and nesting, and will also cut down drafts. I hope to finish the front half lining today and can then build the rack frame and the bench frame. I have been struggling with my old mitre saw - it's knacked after years of use and isn't accurate anymore which costs me time and a clean cut, so I ordered a nice new one off Amazon, along with a dedicated stand which will make life a lot easier. No more scrabbling around on the floor propping one end up to get it level for a cut. That should arrive today More soon. Dusty

Great new workshop Dusty, mate of mine had exactly the same one and from same company, within 12 months the roof started leaking after a good down pour of rain and heavy winds, the overlap on the felt wasn't enough and the rain blew up and caused leaks all over the place, they didn't cover that under the guarantee !!! so had to fix it by sealing the joints with a with a special sealant paint.. thought it might be worth checking before insulating the roof as it could become a nightmare and soak everything.

Who's Val Doonican ?? Rocking chair sounds good though !! So my new chop saw arrived today, and I honestly don't know how I got by with the crappy old one I've been using for years ! Old one is on the floor in this pic, against the new one; 20170629_145518 by David Miller, on Flickr The stand is a dream to use - you can extend arms that support the timber - it's sooo easy. The saw itself can cut metal and plastic as well as wood so it's gonna be really useful. I wanted to finish the lining in the front half, and it was fiddly cutting around the windows; Got it done though, and then built the bench frame. Bit higher than normal to save the back ache, and I'm just going to use 3/4 chipboard as a top; 20170629_132626 by David Miller, on Flickr 20170629_191604 by David Miller, on Flickr Started on the racking frame too but lost the light, so more tomorrow. You are going to have to build another shed to store the saw that you bought to build the shed 😉

Hi Dusty
Have you sealed the floor.?
That type of panelling is prone to absorbing moisture
Also I've seen sheds in Canada/USA that put rubber sheeting glued to the roof to keep moisture out as per Mattybecketts post
It looks like an Ozito saw, I've got one but not as flash as yours, can't kill it even when cutting fire bricks
Mine came with a 2 year replacement warranty too

Hi Really pleased with the saw, and the stand makes a huge difference. My friend Trev, who built the base surround, has the same set up, and that's when I decided I was gonna have to upgrade. Each cut is perfect now, and it's much quicker to get work done . Same as having good quality tools for working on your bike I spose. It is big though compared to the old one !! I haven't treated the floor yet but I intend to, I have seen sterling board fail when it get's wet or damp, and I know I need to seal it before I fit a floor covering. Dusty

Good decision Dusty, firts thing I did when I built mine was buy two quality drill/drivers and a chop-off saw like yourself, makes DIY a pleasure keep going, soon be ready for bikes at this rate.

Racking is now in and finished. I fitted 18mm chipboard for the shelves, plus I used it for the bench top. If and when it gets oily, chewed up or just plain manky I will unscrew it and spin it over ! Cheaper than a worktop. I emptied the back half of the shed and started fitting the Stirling board to the floor but then run out of light. No pics coz of Photof**ket !! But I am following Mark's excellent thread about using Flickr, so hopefully will be able to update soon.

Dusty You will have to edit all your comments in the Shed post and change the Photobucket links to Flickr ones which is a ridiculous thing to have to do! Photobucket will lose all their 'free' users which will lose them money from advertisers .. absolutely crazy decision on their part and annoying for us too

Big thanks Mark, your "how to" on Flickr is brilliant, and takes some effort to post so thanks mate So, I think I will gradually work my way through my posts, restoring pics via Flickr. All new pics will be easier obviously, so I will start here. Front half of the shed is virtually done now; 20170705_073449 by David Miller, on Flickr The racking is built to endure a direct nuclear strike ! 3x2 cls frame work and 18mm chipboard tops. I need to sort everything properly as it's just chucked in there at the mo, but I should have some spare room for future crap to store !! The bench is the same 3x2 and 18mm chipboard. I thought once the top gets manky I will unscrew it and spin it over; 20170705_073458 by David Miller, on Flickr I recycled the carpet tiles from my old shed, and even Vax'd them once I had fitted them I didn't have enough for the whole floor area, so ended up leaving the areas under the bench and racking bare, so will treat those bits with a sealant. Just need to sort some electics, fit the strip light and a few other bits and then I can concentrate on the back half. I've already laid the osb floor in there, so lining is next. Dusty

I'd be evicting that tumble dryer if it were my shed, unless it doubled as a beer fridge! 😜

I've got all my old helmets bar 1, so now need to find a decently priced Gallet lid on ebay. And the tumble drier ! - Didn't want it back in there as it's for girls !! I was hoping a few months outside under a tarp would knack it but the bloomin thing still works Dusty

great work on the shed, but the tumble dryer is definately the road to no town, has to go before any thing else makes its way into the man cave or heaven forbid the inner sanctum of the 2nd part, do the right thing Dusty, turf it out

the tumble dryer has to go! it will send warm wet air through your shed, you dont want that, it'll rust everything... or plump it out through the side wall, but i cant see you cutting the shed!

The drier rarely gets used, and I have a vent pipe that runs outside. I think it looks horrible in there. It is a direct assault on my manliness - I like wearing damp clothes - dry clothes are for gurls Trouble is when the missus puts those little tumble drier sheets in there, the shed fills with an inviting aroma of spring flowers, and the "Summer Breeze" version is to die for !! Still haven't decided which pastel shade to paint the walls yet. Gotta get the "feng shui" right, haven't you ? !!

I'm just in the process of ordering a shed from those guys, what did it sting you for the partition wall?

Hi The partition wall was £150 extra. I could have saved a bit by building it myself, but time is an issue for me, and getting it done in one go was the most important thing. I think you'll be pleased with it - heavy duty shed for sure

It certainly looks the business. I just decide to go to 18 foot from 16, but can only do 8 wide due to Site and having to have had planning permission. How high is it inside, can you get a bike on a workbench?
