i seen you mentioned you wasnt useing you tank.... is it up for grabs? and have you a price in mind? im a tank short of my spare marsbar set..... Hi martyn, my old tank was pretty knackered. It had pin holes in it on the left side and leaked Also it had been lined previously which was coming away. A lot of rust inside as well. I think the bottom needs to be cut out and repaired/cleaned. That's why I got another tank. PM me if your still interested, but I think the tank needs too much work
Regards Mark

In the middle of my own 350LC rebuild (82 mars bar), I will be using some of the pictures as a reference.
Those genuine Yamaha parts must have cost you a fortune, I just ordered a clutch mechanism spring and couldn't believe the price for that single item, yikes!
Great job, can't wait to see finished product

I've probably spent more than I would like to admit, but money doesn't do anything until you spend it. Like you, some parts shock me how much they are. Other's I find cheap.
Update on my side panels - they are ready at last. I hope to photograph the finished bike at the weekend

Well chaps the bike is back together at last (paintwork was the only "banana skin") It's too late in the year to get the old girl an MOT so the bike will go into a vac-bag until spring. I'll sort any gremlins then, but all the electrics / charging system work.
Many many thanks to all my mates who helped with the restoration and to all you forum members for all your help and advise. Especially Arrow and Steve H (for his very special brand of humour) The seat will be recovered in the new year as I don't like the piping plus a few stickers to go on, split pins to fit etc

Remember some silica gel bags for the cocoon. Nice new bike by the way mark, hope its a keeper PS May be worth giving this product consideration. www.napieruk.com/acatalog/info_16.htmlPPS It is available on the bay.....not Morecambe Bay....that would be plane silly, and if you did go to Morecambe Bay for some, you would probably end up with a washed out sanitary towel, and I cant see that stopping corrosion in a cocoon.

Cheers lads for all your comments Thanks for the tip Steve, I definitely won't use a washed out sanitary towel to keep the rust away (does it make a difference if it's soiled?) Yes it's a keeper, along with the 400E. The H1 might get the big elbow to make room for a new project next year. Can't wait for spring

The bike looks brand spanking, just out of the showroom. what don't you like about the seat?, anything else to do?

Cheers Dave. The seat is how I bought it, with the bike. It's been recovered but I don't like the piping, or the material used. As luck would have it one of my best mates is an upholsterer and is recovering the seat now.
He says he can send photo's of every stage - someone let me know if you want me to post up the pic's. I've never seen inside a seat or the recovering process. Might not be of interest to you guys.
Anyway Dave, high/low stickers and battery breather sticker to go on, plus a few little bits to improve. My stainless steel indicator bolts have started to rust! Can't wait for spring.

Congratulations Mark on such a fantastic project, attention to detail and patience I guess are two of the most important qualities when building such a special bike? I wondered if when building something like this you keep a tab on the cost's? My bike was fairly expensive to buy in the first place but I still find myself wanting to make it better regardless of the aditional cost........to hell with the final price in my opinion. Ignorance is bliss is the message here I think, do you agree?

Cheers Andy, really nice comments. Your spot on with your thoughts. Costs- I'm very lucky to have good contacts and mates which kept costs down. All my blasting, welding, degreasing, engineering and seat covering were free. Paintwork will be the cost of the paint + a drink All my vapour blasting was £40, (cases, carbs, fuel tap). Still quickly adds up though but I do get a decent discount off Yamaha parts (was in the trade years ago). Like you, to hell with the cost. Worth the big smile on my face when I walk in my garage. Really don't want to add it all up. My OCD for new parts kept kicking in!
Patience for the rare parts, methodical lists and if a part won't assemble/ disassemble, take your time and come back to task after a break.
What bike have you got? Post up some pictures, Oh and I paid a bit to much for my LC. I'm in the, "it looked a lot better in the photo's" club. Must have a few members
Good luck with your bike
All the best Mark

My mate Frank recovered and cleaned the base of my sons RD125LC seat a few weeks ago
So I gave him my 350LC seat to sort out. He sent these images. I've never seen the captured bolts or foam base before

hi mark your mate frank made top job of the 125 seat the 350 seat foam looks a little worn sure norbo does new foam for these seats had a look at his web page and couldnt see them tho Thanks for info marsbar (sorry for late reply, been away for w/end) Think you're being very kind to say "a little worn" According to Frank, my seat foam has also been repaired on the top section, using the wrong type of foam! Apparently the standard foam/ process used is called "cold cure foam", dense and holds it's moulded shape. I found Norbo's seat foam - looks good, but I've already got my seat back ( post up pic's in the week) Frank said whole process including making the cover was under 2 hours!, and he cleaned up the base. He's a bloody legend - brilliant work.
Anyway rambling again. I'll get a new foam if my bum gets numb

All the broken/rusty staples are removed to liberate the cover. The foam is not glued to the base and needed a couple of repairs. Next the seat base was cleaned with Vim!, and the metal brackets cleaned up.
Sections are then marked and cut out, but must be symmetrical. This can be done by using a template, Frank the clever dickie did it by eye.
Then it's stitched together and fitted. Tacked at the back then working from the front. Heat is applied to stretch the cover and it's stapled in place
A few photo's of the seat after Frank delivered it. I think it's a big improvement on the previous cover - well pleased with it
