Looking good mate..when you hoping to be finished? Heading up your way to northwest 200 in may..think there a classic parade lap that friday..be cool to enter it I wont have the bike finished in time for this years North West but have always said the first proper run out will be up to the NW200, hoping to have it ready this time next year, still quite a few beer tokens to gather up to spend on the engine, never really thought about doin the parade lap but sounds like a good idea

Painted the swingarm and bought a set of Nikkon pipes, hopefully thats the swingarm in for the final time, and tried the pipes on, mostly as i could'nt resist to see how they looked on the bike but also to see the clearance on the swing arm. As the engine is not in, it's hard to tell the final position on how the pipes will sit but looks to be plenty of room round the swingarm just a bit tight to where i've mounted the rear brake torque arm. The pipes are difinately a compromise between the performance offered by a larger expansion chamber and cost, I would've loved a set of kenny's pipes but after contacting Kenny he really needs the bike with him and with me living in Norn Ireland would be an issue, I also spoke to Mick Abbey about pipes but after much deliberation went for the Nikkons, i have always wanted a belly fairing on my bike and the larger expansion chambers resrict this, also the larger expansion chambers sit close to the underside of the footrest hangers and i have the brake and gear lever under the hangers which my have been a problem. I seen these pipes on ebay and contacted Mike at Nikkon who was very helpfull, they arrived vesterday and i would descibe the overall quality as very good, the welding is spot on and the clear laquered finish is the way i wanted, a couple of things that were'nt quite as i expected was the the end cans are only held on with 2 bolts, i was expecting 3, and the end cans are quite short. To be fair once bolted to the pipe the end cans do feal very solid with just the 2 bolts and once fitted to the bike the shorter end cans didnt look out of place. Also fitted the recessed tail light bracket that OEB sorted and the banchee coils

Hi Bike is looking lovely The white wheels really suit the bodywork - looks so clean Plus I think the pipes look awesome - really suit the Lc. I've seen them on ebay and they seem good value. You should stick a pic of the pipes in the exhaust pic thread - don't think there are any Nikkon pics in there yet. It's gonna be a stunner when done - keep up the great work Dusty

I have finally got round to the last part of the build and stripped the engine last weekend, before starting i took Dusty's advice and made up a wooden plinth for the engine to sit on before i started to split the crank cases. All went relatively smoothly apart from one stubborn star head screw holding the retainig plate that slots into the tacho drive, (there's always one) but eventually got it out. All looks to be in decent condition but i did notice some wear / burring on two of the gear selector forks along with some blue heat marks and one of the gears also has some blueing. I have got a spare gear and have put an add in the wanted section to hopefully pick up the selector forks. I will be taking no chances with the rest of the engine and replacing all bearings, seals etc. This is the first engine i have stripped to the bare cases so hopefully I can build it back up again, any help / advice is always welcome. I have the crank sitting in some 2 stroke premix and it does look and feal to be in good nick but just want to make sure and will get it sorted as well Have spoken to Ron at Fahron's quite a few times over the last while and he assures me i'll have the 370 top end in the next couple of weeks so fingers crossed i'm on the home straight now.

Lol, Have planned to go up on the Thursday Afternoon for the Dundrod 150, unlikely to make it up for the Ulster on Saturday, but will definatly watch the highlights on TV, have seen some great racing at Dunrod, probably my favorite race of the year, are you going yourself? As for the bike there's two hopes of it being ready but i do like your optimism.

Hi That's the beauty of the forum, with guys helping each other out. Mark has helped me out too, a really good guy and great forumer !! I agree - leave no part untested or unchecked before you rebuild. It's quite an enjoyable process, apart from the cost, but well worth doing right. I always replace gearbox bearings with genuine Yam, including the selector drum bearing. May be worth fitting a shift pro, and mod the shift star for easier neutral selection while it's all apart. Worth fitting the gear shaft bush whilst it you are at it too The Lc engine I have on the bench at the mo had a really weak spring on the pawl on the gear shaft, plus the usual groove at the seal end so new shaft from Norbo and all new Yam seals. I am also gonna fit a new billet basket and Wiseco rubbers. Vapour blasted cases are a nice touch too. I did start an Lc engine rebuild thread in the resto section which includes part numbers. I will update it when I get time !! Look forward to your progress Dusty

Got the crankcases back from the vapour blasters and painted the side cases satin black just to get the hole drilled/reamed in the lower crankcase for the gear shaft bush and possibly some fettleing to match the upper crank case to the barrels when i get them back, hopefully this week.

Thanks for the positive comments, deltadave - I believe the shift pro can be got from mad biker designs, it has a lighter spring than the standard yamaha as well as a bigger proper bearing rather than the yamaha roller, with reguards to the shift star, the mod is to reduce the points on the star down to give an easier shift, thats my basic take on both but if you do a search you will find alot of info on both, I have bought a new shift star to give me the option of modding my existing star or just fitting the new one, still havent decided on the shift pro yet.

KevtheRev - The cases were done by East Antrim Vapour Blasting and charged me 40 quid which i thought wasnt bad, it was Dusty that recommended getting them done and have to say i was pleased with the results although the top case does have some pitting i think as a result of stuff lying on it over the years and there is a small piece missing from chain damge on the bottom case, i put a radius on it and it looks ok.
Arrow - Thanks for the comment, hopefully wont be long till i get your like new pump on and running, definatly feels like i'm finally getting near the finish line

That was a reasonable price , they came out well . The chain's taken lumps out of the cases I have , but theyre a matching set and they dont leak , so far so good .

Nice work with the Dremel. Your cylinders and head look spot on, so your prep work should mean it all goes together easily. I think the engine is the best part of a rebuild. Bet you can't wait for the crank to be rebuilt
I like all the new Yam parts as well.
Looking forward to you posting the engine rebuild

Got the crank back at the weekend, 4 new main bearings, and 2 new rod kits, big and wee ends, Had the lower casing sitting ready to go with the 4 new gearbox bearings, new selector drum bearing and all new seals, the tacho drive bolted up to the top case and all the studs fitted. I set the crank in and bolted it up last night using threebond 1104. Yamark - when you say the engine is the best part of a rebuild, I have to admit I was a bit aprehensive about stripping the engine to the bare cases but I have really enjoyed this part of the build. I am very much an amature mechanic but can fully recommend anyone who is thinking about doing an engine rebuild to have a go, from my limited experience it does seem to be quite a simple engine to work on, specially with the help and advice given by the forum members. With reguards to the much talked about shift star mods, i did have a go at reducing the points of the shift star but made a complete balex of one of the points and buffed it down till it hit the pin, so binned that one and just used the new one I got for a spare, and I had made my mind up to buy the shift pro but they are currently out of stock so impatience has got the better of me and have just decided to try as is for now. Lastly - I'm missing the cable clip that goes on upper cranckcase bolt number 9, part number 90462-06025, its listed as no longer available on fowlers website, if anyone has one they would be willing to part with please send me a message. Thanks

Those engine cases haven't half come up well
On my YPVS cases I used Gunk, paint stripper (when it worked) and newspaper to rub the shite off and it semi buffed them too
