Greetings, Going to chuck this across a few forums that I use. Been saying for a while I'm going to get this up on t'internet, but been busy with the other bikes. Now, they're for enjoying, this is for spending all my money on.... The bait: "C" reg 350N1, in a million pieces, don't really know why I bid on it, I was watching it all week with a mixed "shall I, shan't I" feeling... Anywayz, as usual, I sniped it and the deal was done (for £200 less than I'd have gone to ;D ) Now here's the funny thing, when I won it I wasn't elated, not over the moon, not even happy. Just nonplussed that I'd just won another bike that wasn't a 31K. Must have been an indecisive week ...And a forum member! Nick's a loooooong way from me..... The drive: [All other pics of pre-strip were lost when Photoshitit coughed and I lost all my albums] So, ripped it to pieces and found this: Good start.... So did this to it (after chopping all the S**T and cleaning nice) Got everything ready for powder Now, here's a thing. 15 years previously, I used to use another powder'r in the Castleford area who were absolutely brilliant, did me loads of trick candies (when that wasn't even heard of). We had lots of magazine featured bikes and some show wins as well. Turns out that Dave from LSN coatings was the guy I took my stuff to before 1st lot of stuff back: The guy hasn't lost his touch. Absolutely perfect. Good price too. I was like a dog with 2 dicks and an extra long tongue ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Simon

Hot wheel time! Decided to save a bit of money and overhaul my wheels. In my home-made low pressure media blaster: Spent a bit of time on the polishing wheel... Into the spraybooth, which, to the uninitiated, looks like a garden shed with everything badly covered up with a sheet... Fast forward a day... Fast forward another day.... Only a little bit of overspray where the tape didn't stick down too well.... Doneski! Took a week. Next time, going to send them to a professional. Preview of the next installment: Thanks for looking! Simon

Hello, thanks for sticking around.... So, did you get it from the clue left on my last post? The Weird Science reference was purely because I'd bought a home zincing kit.... I mean you wouldn't think it was a reference to this fine lady eh? Well, fast forward 30 years..... Not so much Weird Science, more wierd botox So all this lot queues up... Gets arranged like this: Goes in here for 20 mins: ....and comes out looking like God - without photos thanks to photobucket ...... Meanwhile, lots of other bits had heard about the shotblaster and wanted an exfoliate... and a quick buff up afterwards.... Next up, engine

check out garagenite.tv (i think thats it), they did their own blaster Problem with most of these Clarke type setups is they need a bout 10cfm of air to make them work. Mine works from a 2.5hp, 50 ltr tank with pressure reduced to between 1.5 and 3 bar depending how impatient I am... I can take print off a piece of magazine without breaking the paper. I also don't need to wear gloves so I can handle really small bits. Downside is doing bigger bits, a bit like spraying a tank with an airbrush. I mainly use Aluminium Oxide, but for the delicate stuff I use Armex, although my guns not designed to work with it so there's a lot of wastage) I'll take some photos later of the setup. Simon

As promised, engine build. 14cheeks did a lovely job of having the casings barrels and head vapour blasted and sticking a lick of paint the bare alloy Although the pistons are .75, the ports are (nearly) untouched. Very minimal flowing so should make it a nice motor Undetonated head: Its Y1 barells and head as well! So usual stuff: So the engine's as far as I could go as I needed more bits (!?!?!) Also, I was juggling doing the front end on the LC and getting the head done on the GSXR so it was a time share thing. As also it was January, it was blinking cold in the garage. So we moved indoors. If Carlsberg made lofts - cos that's where the build started ;D...... See you next time! Simon

So, I've finally gone up in the world, and replaced the old porn mag stash area with 80's 2-stroke porn instead! So, as everything was moved from the garage into the loft it went throught a clean/check/clean again/store. In the meantime, more bits for the LSN trip.... Switchgear pulled down and casings off for powder... Like new rear 'guard, £21 complete with genuine reflector off the 'bay! Few NOS from Garin in Jersey Stuff back from LSN! How sweet is that! Next up clocks Thanks for looking! Simon

Before I make a start on this, just need to ask if anyone's got: 31K footrests (front & rear) N1/N2/F1/F2 front mudguard. Needs to be as original (with brace rivetted and still laquered), but paint not important (as long as it's original) as it's going to be painted Black 31K/N1/F1 seat All must be in lurvely condition please! OK, back to the plot! Picked up a set of clocks off one of the forum members. Punted as "very good but not mint" condition, Initial pleasure of them looking ok was spoilt by them actually being shite. Bottom (and practically innacessable) screw was totally rusted in and rounded off. Any attempt to rough-arse and I'd have been running the risk of either breaking the casing or snapping it in. So that meant that if a bulb blew in the clocks it couldn't be changed... Wiring sheathing was also crap. Great start, and this was possibly the real moment that I started losing the love for this bike..... Took a lot of time and patience from a guy who builds and restores model cars to get this screw out without ruining the surrounds. Says he NEVER wants another set to do though... Anyways, best not to dwell, topside is got it sorted, had a couple of other sets I destroyed to make up 1 very, very nice set.... Now, look like this (as the most expensive set ever...) : Couple of small marks (they are 20-odd years old...) but I think it adds the the identity of the bike. I've also kept the olive washers and nuts, they're a bit rusty so I'm going to see if I can get NOS or just stainless ones to break the black up a bit! As you can see, the bike's now in it's new home in the garage. It needed to leave the loft before it got too heavy to lift down. I completely altered the garage so it could be built on its own bench. To celebrate this pivotal moment the NOS elf gave me this in return for sterling: Then the other NOS elf (Norbo, who's not really an elf but ride with me on this one...) gave me this lot for considerably more sterling! Shag (AJs vapour blasting in Hull if you dont know) did this. Damn, that boy's good So time to stop forking about and get forking about: Next up, engine and lots more money spending.... Simon

Thought I'd put a quicker episode up as the weathers crap and I've got quite a lot done. So, on with the show: With the engine off the bench it was time to bring the chassis down: Radiator was pressure checked, cleaned inside and out and given a lick of rad paint. Forks temp. in: Swinger ready for it's new home: Funny how much NOS is used up where you can't see it Bottom arm powdered, zinc'd, greased: Olive green washers. All that effort and you can't see 'em.... Mounted with me lovely olive dogbones Time to turn my attention to the touchy-feely bits All nicely rebuilt, still not stuck my stickers on I got from Simon5, will do that when it's on its wheels... 'Bars on top yoke with the NOS clutch perch and grips: As the sun's been out for this strange March weather, the last of my metalwork jumped in the zinc bath before laying out in the sun to dry off: Thought I'd go for zinc on the tie-bars - just to break the black up: Now all those fiddly bits can go back together! And fitted: Footrest hangers finally fitted. Not located any footrests yet though And the bike turned round (which is not easy on your own...) Envelope from Granbys... Another lump of blasting and zinc'ing for bolts that I thought I wouldn't find.... The keen-eyed amongst you will notice the caliper bolts are now zinc'd as well Finally got the dog-legs bolted up. Probably gone a bit overboard zincing every bolt/washer/nut that can't be stainless but I want this to be a quality build. Just waiting on a quality OEM shock and the plot can go on the floor for the wheels to be fitted. Next time, exhausting work Thanks for looking! Simon

As promised last time, its exhaust time. Not sure if I'm looking forward to this bit though, the obvious option would be to use the Swarbricks I've got in the loft but I want a standard look so therefore, standard pipes. Only problem is, they're quite rare. I bought a right-hand one when I bought the bike. Couldn't locate anymore until a bit ago on a auction site I won a left-hand one! Two days later I'd won two more.... So sorting out the best set, I now have a good set of pipes that only need a very minimal amount of work to get some superficial marks out of the rear cone. Left-hand pipe (in picture) fully taken to are metal, only a couple of dents. GREAT!!!! Right-hand pipe cleaned to metal in offending areas. God knows what it was painted with but it was a bloody nightmare getting it off...... Wheeled my dad into the project as he's got oxy-aceteline equipment so will be a lot easier for him to briaze them up than me. Should pick them up in a few days and have a session of filing and shaping! I'm making headway with the calipers now so will post up in a couple of days! Simon
