gday lb, yep it was graham, quick, affordable good old fashion service, i posted it monday from brisbane, got it back and installed it wednesday, the paint on the cases is VHT engine enamal, ive done a few bits with it and so far so good, i bake it in the oven as the can says and it seems fairly hardy ,time will tell, its a satin finish but looks slightly glossy, i got the side cases powdercoated gloss black so that will dull it back a bit,see ya

gday garry, i need to rewire the stator and tidy it up,new clutch bits, hook up the plumbing, not a lot but am waiting on some small bits like a clutch mechanism spring and a claw washer and e clip or 2 from the US,a couple of weeks waiting for parts, then hopefully not to long afterwards, im hoping it will be on the road in a month, hopefully the timing wont be a big prob,i marked the bits to give me an idea when reinstalling it but now all i see is a 100 marks last time i looked, i will have to freshen up the carbs ,already got my kits, so there you go, would like to fit the pipes but i think they may get in the way a bit, see ya

Ken, you need a DTI for setting the timing. Re-alineing of any marks does not have the neccissary accuracy. Also, where you are situated I would be using a 9 sparkplug instead of the standard 8.

going to a colder plug is that cause its warmer over here on average and whats DTI stand for? i use to set the timing on my old cars with a timing light but will have to study up a bit for the bike,

The 9 is a colder plug. Dial gauge, timing gauge 2 strokes are more set up this way than with a strobelight. Attachments:

Ken, DTI = Dial Test Indicator.

Amusing story.... today a guy came over and bought a set of brake calipers off me. Nice bloke, we chatted and trial fitted the calipers to his XS1100 front end that he had brought over. After a good old chin wag we got talking about our bikes and he says his love is the XS1100, and I said i was partial to the LCs etc. he said 'oh on the XS1100 forum there are a few guys building LCs, and one bloke has done a lot of work on his. Hey its not really my thing, but i love bikes and hes doing a great job' or something like that. I had a few mins to look round the net later and lo n behold I find who's bike he was talking about? Damn its a small world...

gday jon, it sure is, ive been tossing up between a xs1100 and a xjr1300 for a year or so now so(i finally got permission today actually to buy one) i joined up on the xs site to get a feel for the bike and anyway its pretty quiet most of the time so i started a thing with the RD and a few of them came out of the wood works etc. but i have to admit im leaning towards a low k's xjr1300,pre fuel injection (2007) i think so i can do my own stuff with it.i just need a break from older bikes for awhile, see ya.

Thats looking mighty nice Ken. When you painted the cases black I thought mmmmmm but it makes it look more menacing I'm just about to send my paintwork off, same colour as yours,white/blue, can't wait. Cheers

Ken, make sure the oil passage through the carbs is totally clear. One of mine was blocked up after it was blasted. Use your mouth to blow through a small length of oil line to check.

well the latest is not real good, finally put the oil in the gear box and it leaks were i got it welded up from some chain damage, im going to try and track down a pair of upper and lower engine cases as the top one has a bit broken off where the kick start assembly goes (groove were the return spring fits in)its very testing, its seems like its one set back after another, i will pull the motor out and go from there i guess,
