Good luck Steve. What did you make of the course by the end of it? The course was great. We went through a 500 page course guide in four days. The first couple of days was all modelling then we did assemblies, mating parts and drawings (how to create drawing layouts and exploded views to print). I enjoyed it but I need to do some for real soon to set what I've learnt permanently into my brain.

I've got a Woodforde's Wherry kit in the cupboard, a present from one of the lads. I need to get a pressure barrel or something to get it rolling. I should get on with it. I believe Wilcos do some homebrew stuff. yeah they quite often have stuff on special offer

Well that particular avenue is a dead end. Probably for the best. Another employment agency has put me forward for something at a company that has developed a much cleaner cheaper way to produce hydrogen (the fuel of the future according to a lot of people). They have secured huge investment to build these plants by (surprisingly to many) oil and gas companies. In a Hollywood film the oil and gas companies invest in cleaner energy companies so they can sabotage their production facilities and destroy a rival. In real life they just want to make money any way they can 😃

Wow I hope you get that job. It is the only viable fuel option I think. Apart from petrol of course... Alex

I recall BP ran a green marketing campaign Beyond Petroleum…

I worked as a temp for British Gas aeons ago and they had a competition to see who could come up with the best slogan using the initials B and G. To my astonishment my suggestion didn't win. Bloody Greedy. Alex

I recall BP ran a green marketing campaign Beyond Petroleum… We did a project for Vivergo at BP a few years ago. We did the A/C for the plant room that controlled the process for making ethanol. They spent millions building this plant in anticipation of the government introducing 10% ethanol in fuel. The demand for ethanol would have pretty much doubled overnight. It didn't happen so after about five years they shut it down. I hear it opened up again a little while back. Ethanol is basically 'green', you grow some stuff, ferment it and take away the result to 'water down' the petrol. That's simplifying it and doesn't take into account the land, agricultural vehicles, road transport, production energy and cost to create the plant but it's green. if you ignore all that you have some green content in your petrol.

The other thing about ethanol production is the crops
Firstly corn prices were driven up as the petrochemical industry are willing to pay more for it than the food and animal feed producers
Secondly with all the Ukraine/Russian carry on there is a shortage of grain/rapeseed etc
FFS put feeding people before this so called "green" ethanol in petrol
