Rolling old folk is nothing new. Some years ago my wife's Grandma was mugged when in her nineties in Manchester whilst out shopping for birthday presents for great grandchildren. The scum will continue to be so, as they and their behaviour is tolerated... sadly.

Things are scary here now. I went to six shops today and I am not kidding, the shelves were totally bare. Nothing at all. Came home with nothing at all too. I have food until Monday...

Alex That is scary. I popped out yesterday to the foodservice store (like where restaurants shop) and the regular grocery. I got a big 18lb package of pork butt roast, 8lbs of chicken, a gallon of dishwasher soap, a gallon of washing up liquid, other staple foods, etc. While at the regular grocery, I got a flat of lettuce and kale garden starts. Gonna start planting the garden tomorrow, when the going gets tough, grow yer own!

Thing is there is only so much food people can buy so it’s got to slow down I do about 12-15 tomato plants, a few hot peppers, cucumbers, blackberries, and spanish musica beans every year. I haven't done the cool weather spring crops in a while, but ...desperate times and all. I keep honeybees as well. Still got a few gallons of honey stashed away from last years take. Maybe I should learn to wipe my ass with it!

Beware the beast Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death." ―The Lawgiver, (as spoken by Cornelius in Planet of the Apes)

Alex, try Waitrose in Egham. My daughter works at Waitrose head office in Bracknell, with an office virtually to herself. They told her at the beginning of the week to work from home so as not to risk contracting, or spreading the virus - a caring employer it seems Then on Tuesday she gets a call - we want you to go to Egham store to stack shelves from 6pm till midnight ! No PPE, no breaks, no parking on site so she had to walk across the town to get to her car at half midnight She was back there this morning at 6am, to stack more shelves, so stock is coming in. Dusty

Respect! Words from a proud father and rightly so. Wonder how many of the young ones pictured partying in the packed pubs recently have suck a work ethos. Dont see them putting themselves out. Just spreading the lergie about with no thought for others or NHS who no doubt they will contact for help! Rant over!
Sure there are more selfless rather than selfish people will see us through this. Best wishes.

Your own honey is sweet too. Just check bees today, all good and they are looting flowers of their pollen (Your own mead is nice too!!)

And daft bastids are buying it at hugely inflated prices.. Supermarkets have had 2 weeks to put limits on amounts and only now are they limiting sales.... a***holes of equal ballbaggery!
I spent some of my childhood on a farm bigken. I teaches kids the reality of life. Such an important thing as farming is, it is still treated with contempt. What politicking bastid said "agriculture isn't critically important" Wonder what that c**t eats... hopefully his words!! (that salt celler would of been just the thing for a dry ageing venture!)

I sorta got lucky today. Went to Tesco and they had food, no tinned pasta though, no TP, they had tissues though. I got food for me, 4 tins of Semolina and some baby wipes for my mum and was startled at checkout to be told I could have 1 of each item. So...tomorrow I got back for 1 more of everything. No spuds but a friend got me some and another just phoned to say she has TP and tinned pasta. Getting a bit surreal now.
Thanks for the Waitrose tip Dusty!

Today kinda reminded me of the spirit we used to have back in the day...a friend needed Oregano and I found some so took it over to her, she gave me some sausages for me and yeast for another friend. So I dropped off the yeast and got some loo roll in return. We need more of this spirit going on, we really do.

We are saving a shitload of money eating in every night. I do all the cooking in the house, so this is a big deal for me. Before, we'd eat out at least 2-3 nights per week. We live just a block from one of the prime restaurant neighborhoods in Portland, so excellent food is just a short stroll away. Closest is a Japanese Izakaya where $70 for a meal for 3 is average. Northern Thai, Italian, Spanish Tapas, Gourmet Pizza, Gelato, etc. Too easy to just get lazy and pay up, and not many of the locals are cheap. $400-500 a month in food and drinks out is not at all uncommon for us Now, all dine-in restaurants(and bars, pubs, etc) are closed. Some restaurants are still doing take-away, but most have closed, or will be closing soon. Thus, besides a $20 meal from the local Taco Truck (gotta support the local homies) this past Friday, we have eaten at home since last Thursday (10 days ago). This is quite an achievement and something I have been trying make happen for years! ... and I agree Alex about the community thing. Early on, I did a grocery run for some neighbors, and as the weather's been nice, we've all been hanging out on our front porches in the evening and socializing (at a safe "social distancing" 6'). Neighbors 4 houses down had a front porch bluegrass jam Friday night. Banjo, fiddle, guitar and mandolin could be heard all up and down the street. Also, my yard hasn't received so much attention in years. Romaine lettuce and Lacinato Kale went in the garden today, and I had the pressure washer, lawnmower and leaf blower all running Motul 710 at 50:1. 'Kin WINNING!

Not saying I agree with it or have done it but this hoarding and buying in excess is something that seems fairly common in the classic vehicle scene too.
Can think of various threads/ pictures on a variety of forums ive seen with lots of NOS, sometimes many of the same item, where the owner just wishes to store it forever and take the occasional picture, pop it online and decline any offfers by people trying to keep their vehicle roadworthy....
Ive heard of people who have bough NoS items just because they dont want someone else to own it...!
Not life or death I appreciate and it doesnt have a wide social impact like hoarding supplies but the mindset is the same .

Supermarket in Denmark has come up with the solution. Buy one item it’s say £4 buy 2 it jumps to £104 They’ve done this with various items, stops the bulk buyers.

Hmm, Doesnt that just mean that rich people can buy what they want and poor people cant?
Im with Jim, weve not eaten out for over a week and it feels weird, but also I guess its saving us money not that ive checked or added it up any.
With the current trend for people in the uk and here to flout the rules on social gatherings it seems that military lockdown is likely. How on earth did we get to this?!

We are definitely spending less, no travel costs, no eating out, no nanny, no dog walkers doing it myself, no cleaner, working from home saved loads and we are both cooking and baking which we both love, already made soups, breads and some pasta and a lovely cherry pie with home made pastry. Only problem is I’m gaining weight
