Yeah! What they ever done for us.. besides a wall to keep the jocks out! Romanes Eunt Domus.. And how has that worked for you (says the jock in England š) Steve Could of been problematic if the wall had been maintained properly as I used to work for James Scott Electrical Contractors, Finnieston Street, Glasgow. Finest bunch of fuse-iliers this side of Watford Gap.

Yes but apart from sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health What have the Romansā ever done for us? 'bought peace?' 'oh SHUT UP!' Alex

Starting to hit home here too. Lots of shops closed, nearby factory shut down for deep cleaning (gulp) and today was a shock. Local Sainsburys, last week no shortage of anything. Today...no meat, veg, bread, loo roll, tissues, soap and no tinned food at all. Weekly shop about Ā£120...I spent a tenner. Visited 5 other places and got some tinned pasta for my mum, no loo roll or tisses anywhere. Bunch of hoarding bast@rds...

Yup.
Shops looked ok Saturday as long as you weren't after ass wipe, hand sanny, gloves or masks.
The big chain stores were looking picked over, but the local shops were still stocked with meat and veg. Got 4lbs ground beef, 4lbs chicken, a few pounds of dry beans, potatoes, fruit and veg, etc. That, plus whats in the freezer means we won't starve, at least.
Thank fcuk we got a bidet seat for the toilet at Christmas.
Parts of California where my Dad lives are on "Shelter in place", meaning yer only allowed out if "absolutely necessary". Bars, restaurants and pubs here are on "take out only" for at least a month going forward. Many, many retail shops are closed, and every thing else will shut once they drop the quarantine on Oregon as well.
Hospitals North of here, in Seattle and it's suburbs are out of beds and looking like an Italy/Iran scenario is not far off.
I do home inspections for real estate transactions, and I've got a bit of work for the rest of this week, but after that, I'm done for a while. Thankfully all (the rest of) my sites this week are vacant. I did an occupied house today and it freaked me the fcuk out. I felt safer down in the crawlspace under the house with the rats than I did up touching the doorknobs and water taps of someone else's home.
I'm usually quite cavalier and generally have a "safety third" outlook on life, but this shit has me well spooked.
As always, there are the non-believers who are in denial about the whole thing.
Gonna be an interesting week.
Edit: And to top it off, Trump willingly and singlehandedly disbanded the National Pandemic Response Team in 2018. There are no CV tests to be had here at all. Current best (only) practice is to just assume everyone has it and keep your distance.

Went shopping yesterday at local Waitrose there was a bloke in a full haz mat suit and respirator. Still got my Cbrn (chemical biological radioactive and nuclear) kit kind of tempted to drag it out. Did get a picture but canāt load it at the moment. Work is being postponed massively at the moment. Not good. Fcuk Johnson and his inability to close businesses so they can claim on their insurance. So many businesses are going to go tits up.

Just went up the local village and all seemed calm !
Didn't go in many shops but the chemist was quiet and fruit and veg shop had as much stuff as normal
The butchers however had a bit of a queue and the shop front definitely looked sparse
Missus works in a school and parents were keeping their kids away, it's a rough school so who knows !

Yup, and so many people are going to go tits up too, because their job has gone down the swanny. Our local pub/brewery are going to do home deliveries. Hope business rates are done away with for the foreseeable future if there is one after the riots and looting... An officer doing his duty resulted in riots and looting not so long ago (2011) lets hope the army is ready for mobilising... Armed guards for arsewipe deliveries... I think I'll order a flagon of stout... (they have hipster brews as well veg, with hints of botanicals ect but it might be a bit expensive on delivery charges for you!)

And just when you couldnāt make it any crazier Amazon are enforcing overtime for staff. So everyone else is allowed to self isolate apart from those b*****ds on minimum wage and zero hours contracts but with enforceable over time riders.

Been there... been sacked for not working OT. The daft bastirds should of realised I had all the connection drawings that I had drawn out in my f**king possession when they told me to work a weekend with no overtime rates... Nottingham?? Bollox it's not even in the UK. Fake....

Not good news Jon I am in the process of trying to claim back cash for a trip to Italy my missus and I cancelled 2 weeks ago. My mum is quite ill just now receiving radiotherapy for lung cancer so we did not want to take the chance of picking something up and bringing it home. The country was in the process of locking down at the time but the airline were still flying in there and so the decision to cancel was ours, not theirs. The insurance are challenging my decision, but we will see. Big one though is my daughter and I are booked to travel to the USA in three weeks which is not looking too good either. The travel insurance mob will delighted when claim 2 comes in which is a lot heavier than the one in just now. I can only hope they don't go under with the amount of claims they are going to receive over the next wee while as this current situation unfolds. We are not the only ones who will be in this situation i'm afraid. Now, where is the bog roll? John

I hear you John, I can see people rejecting claims as much as they can and small businesses (events, B&Bs, museums etc) who think they can get away with it will not pay back, not least as they know they will not get any money any other way.

Depends when you booked Jon
If you booked before the pandemic was declared then you should be able to claim on your insurance, 30th Jan 20 was the declaration date
If you booked before that then claims are possible
After that it depends on the type of insurance
it's a mess, luckily we didn't book for the GP in Malaysia, in fact haven't booked anything at all
All non essential business travel at work has been canned, FIFO guys have to check with their destination to ensure it is OK to fly, any travel has to be approved by the CEO, one guy had his flight cancelled, so drove to his destination 1200km away, then he has to drive back
Supermarkets are struggling to keep up with supply, the issue being that they are ordering in arrears and stock is hard to come by, there aren't enough trucks, drivers and fill staff to keep stock on the shelves
The fill is done during evening trade, they need to get back to doing the fill after trade to give the store a chance to recover
I fear it's going to get worse before it gets better

The biggest problem is that not all our bookings were made from Aus. Sadly there are plenty of no refundable tickets on this trip and some were paid in the UK by family there for us. Its a total mess and its going to leave us out of pocket and no holiday to show for it. Im gutted, but there is nothing we can do. Its damage limitation at this point.
Went to a local supermarket today. No meat at all... well i lie. they had one pack of chicken sausages, 2 packs of very posh burgers and lots of plant based meat foodstuffs. No TP, Tissues etc etc, no eggs, only a few milks, no frozen veg (just quorn), 1 single spud and it was mouldy. no mushrooms and other similar goods. A few fresh tomatoes, zero canned. no canned veg. no soup or rice or pasta and the list goes on. This is a well hidden branch of a major chain, its a newish large shop and is always well stocked. not any more.

Anyone else here think that something and or someone is behind all this, and about to make billions? Next it'll be fcuking ration books. At least when they finally decide that NO one can leave home I'll be ok. I have to travel as a carer. Be nice to see no other traffic anywhere.
Still having nightmares of Orwell's book 1984 and the film Soylent Green...

I was speaking with my neighbor this afternoon who is a triage/Emergency Room Nurse here in Portland. His wife is a medically trained Midwife
He says, at this point, just assume you have it, because you probably do.
According to him (and the Hospital where he works), shit is gonna hit the proverbial fan here in about three weeks time.
We were talking about setting up a neighborhood infirmary because in his words "stay out of the hospital at all costs".

I took out a 1 year travel policy for when I went to Oz in February. Received an email from the ins company this week stating that as Covid-19 is a known event any emergency medical cover, cancellations or delays attributed to C-19 for travel booked after 17 Mar 2020 will not be covered. It also said it would not cover travel to any country the government advised against travelling to. Seeing as that advice is currently the whole world I see my insurance as now worthless. I would think there is a decent chance of getting a refund for bookings made before 17 Mar, it could take a while and a lot of effort but worth being a persistent pain in the ar5e . I reckon any hope of me getting out of the UK again next winter looks very unlikely.

Mick it depends on when you booked the trip and when you bought the insurance
If you book now, the only insurance that will cover you, IF you can get it, is CFAR, Cancel For Any Reason, and I bet it won't be cheap
BTW, it was great to see you again fingers crossed for Christmas
