Fair points reggiep, as you say it's worth what the market will pay in the end On the other hand...from a buyers perspective most will not pay a huge premium over and above a certain level (for a given condition, state, originality etc) even if someone has put a huge amount of time into a project. Basically I guess I'm saying you pay for what your are actually buying, not primarily for the countless hours that may have been spent on it...

Both good points. This seller usually has an Aircooled or LC on offer. He had a 400F for approximately £9k last month, whether it sold for that??

It's a lot easier to restore an LC than an AirCooled RD . As genuine parts for the AirCooled RD are very hard to find and very expensive to find . I also come across this the other night as I have one in the same colour 😎 Do I think it's expensive ? Hell Yes . Do I think it's nice example ? It's bloody lovely untouched , low miles , with good history , if it sells for that price than fair play bet we won't see it being ridden at any rally's thou 😂😂

123 miles in 12 years says it all. Investment So what if it's an investment... Does it matter...? I don't commute on my RC30.. Does it mean I'm any less of a motorcyclist or it's any less of a bike..?

If that bike sells at that price, or anywhere near it, that will encourage others to believe that prices are now in that bracket.
As the old adage says, you pays your money and you takes your choice but there is no way in hell I would be shelling out that kind of money no matter how good it was sorry.

Lets face it old bikes are a bit shite really. Great for pootling around on, you look cool (in your own head anyway which is all that matters) but try and ride them at WOT and I mean proper WOT and 1 - they wobble, 2 they don't stop, 3 they break down, 4 if they don't break down you crash, 5 if you don't crash you get nicked If you want something just to look at buy a picture If you want to pootle about an old 2T is brilliant and unique, even spirited riding is good fun but the days of goign flat out everywhere are a no no. It might have been back in 1981 but not now If you want to go fast with minimum maintenance (and look cool) buy an Aprilia RSV4 I know what I'd be spending my £12k on and it wont ever be an air cooled 2 stroke

Ozhammer, I'm in full agreement with you on that one Well well today's ebay price is now showing £10,995...

Am I correct in thinking that the most sought after model is the E?. Have not seen any of that model for such prices? I agree with Tommo, certainly not in mint condition. £6000 possibly a nearer the mark?

I've seen a few on for between £6.5 and £7.5. But nothing up at the £11/12k level Don't think there was too much difference between the E and F really, all I can remember was the F had dog-leg brake and clutch levers plus a cranked kick-start

If I remember correctly, they badged the "F" with dog leg levers and red wheels ?? I think, but otherwise exactly the same as the "E". They needed to shift them with the advent of the Lc arriving. Dusty

Dusty Good memory Dusty, it was red wheels for the White & Red "F" and black/alloy wheels for the Kenny Roberts yellow version which I had x 2 of (reg #'s HLU 137V and JOY219V if anyone on the forum still rides them..)

I now have an E, F & G model in my possession and even though they are all restoration projects, I still doubt my total spend will approach £12k for all 3 bikes.
That’s a far better spend of that kind of money imho.
