Used LC & YPVS prices...
This isn't aimed at anyone at all, just an observation of the human condition.
Now, we all run down the prices asked for or achieved on eBay etc. with comments like; "it's nice but not 10k nice" "wrong colour bolts for that money" "bet it didn't really sell for that" etc etc.
But then we all hope that our bikes fetch top money. We also know how much time and effort is involved in restoring a bike properly or building a hybrid. Now I know that we don't ever expect for our time to be covered and we do it as a passion but it is strange that we have such a split position on the sale of bikes...
Hey just human nature i suppose...
Personally, I hope that they continue to be worth more and more but I think the bureaucrats will stop that eventually by banning them...

Spot on Reg. I think it could be a long time before they are banned. I heard this week that the environmental group are focusing on scented candles, the way farmers spread the pig s*** on the fields and wood burners. So they may take their eye of the 2T for a while??

I guess most of us are old school owners that have been involved with the bikes over many years? I’ve owned numerous 250/350lc 350 pv’s tdr250 etc etc they used to be cheap fun I sold my last pv 31k in 2005 bought another 350 in06 then built my first hybrid in 07/08 before t I had been riding lc’s since the 80’s I sold my hybrid in 08/09 then didn’t have another until 15 the price was £2200 for a nice low mile import in those few years from 2015 the prices have gone absolutely mental but compared to new bike prices they are still relatively cheap £15k for a 1000 but it is making the bikes more unobtainable for the every man so I guess as a long term owner I struggle with what they sell for (having said all that I have sunk upwards of 15 large into my special).

That's the bit that get's me, for those who want to buy an LC to relive their youth/actually ride it regularly, the purchase price is just too high for most.

And some owners having made a fortune in there life can afford to throw cash at them without thought or consequence you get two wealthy bidders fighting over parts or even bikes it drives the prices up then people take that as what something is now worth, I get it is market forces but she canna take much more

The Internet and Ebay are both hero and villain. Hero because you can find virtually any part - standard or modified, new or used for your bike. Villain because the prices put on parts make it Gospel for everyone else looking to sell. For instance, a pair of 31k carbs - on ebay - £100. They sell, but then there are no others for a couple of weeks. A seller then lists a set at £150. Anyone looking for 31k carbs now thinks that's what they sell for/what they have to pay, and everyone else with a set think that's what they sell for too. Before you know it they are £175 a pair, and so it continues. Lc clocks are another part that's seen prices spiral. Frames too, 350lc rear wheels etc etc. There was a time when you could build a bike by collecting parts from here and there, but that is prohibitively expensive now, and a complete a bike as possible is always gonna be your best bet for a build. They are popular, which means people want them, and a ready market will see prices rising. Most of us here are of an age where we can indulge our hobby a bit more than when the kids were young, and reliving the glory days of our yoof through an Lc/Pv or whatever will see us spending far more than is sensible ! But when was an Lc ever sensible !! I sold my Lc hybrid last year, just after a complete and expensive rebuild. I got really good money for it, and it reflected the cost of parts and services involved with building it. The money has paid for 2 project bikes and parts. I sell a bike to buy a bike so I'm keen to get as much as I can for it so I can move on to the next one. It's rare to make money on bikes, and that was a first for me (apart from a 900SS that I got really lucky with). If I look at a potential purchase, I assess the sum of it's parts and weigh up if they amount to the asking price. If they do, and I can afford it then I'm interested. If it's a cobbled together lash up of knackered parts thrown together by some chancer jumping on the bandwagon, and there are plenty of them, then I give it a miss. Dusty

Well said dusty... house prices seem to follow the same pattern. People exploiting market forces, estate agents especially.

Ok, ok..
All valid points but you're ALL sidestepping the point here..
We are our own worst enemy..
We hope to drive the price up when we know that we've invested blood, sweat and tears into a project yet we run down the price of almost everything else on the market place. I know eBay is evil and can't be trusted... I know that this forum is great... But.. my point still stands, why are we so quick to pour scorn on something that's not ours yet value our own stuff so highly..?
And, if we choose to pay over the odds for something, we get accused of being part of the problem.. I struggle sometimes with the human condition. It baffles me..
Think I need a hug...

I do know what you mean...both the bike prices and hair... Guess I'm a bit different. I don't care what LC's cost. I will never ever sell mine. Parts are always a problem but I always wait for the right price and as 'used' as possible, I don't mind refurbing stuff. So if we all own one, and intend to keep it...there is no real issue! Alex
