Hi all
Thanks for all the advice
Think I will opt to get some new carbs and foam pods from Dave
Not the cheapest option but think it’s the best approach as need at some point to get some one off pipes made too so make sense to go to Dave both for carbs and the pipes
Catch up soon with hopefully some more progress
Best wishes always Al

Just caught up on your build and whilst reading about the side stand I thought of an option that was used on a previous bike I’d owned in the past. I really don’t expect you to consider it as it’s not the best looking option. The swinging arm mounted side stand as used by MZ. Sorry.

Hi all quick update Really starting to come together now Rear shock has now been shortened and an adjustable length rose jointed dog bone now fitted to get the swing arm much flatter and chain run across the top of the arm and underneath looks good👍 Also subframe to carry the side stand now fabricated and fits nicely and just waiting on some rose joints with the correct thread to mount the subframe onto the bottom cases Also a new chain on order and once this is in I can sort out the final drive side offset to see what the final frame clearances will be Really happy with this weeks progress Will update you all once the side stand is fitted to the new subframe, but off work for a couple of weeks so this will be completed when I go back. Many thanks to all for all the help so far Catch up soon Best wishes always Al

Hi all Just a quick update At last it can stand up on its own rather than lent against the garage wall 👍👍 Finished off this week the complete lower sub frame tie bar mounting fabrication that was needed to mount a side stand and mounted the side stand on this fabrication Also sorted out the gear change rearset linkage. Also sorted out rear swing arm position. Did this by shortening the shock lower rose joint by 15mm, and then made up for now an adjustable length dog bone to set the correct ride height to get the correct chain run over the top of the arm (Long term will make up a new unit once I know the final length) Plan now is to sort out the rear master cylinder with a new mount to get it in the correct position Also got some carbs this week and dry fitted these to see what rooom I have left below the tank moulding Now need to also sort out some headstock stop locks Long way to go yet and all the above bits will be tidied up during the final reassembly but pleased with the progress now, and project has made some great progress forward Think that’s all for now folks Catch up again soon Best wishes Al

Evening all Well the Tigcraft project saga continues after a very long lull 😂😂😂 First thanks to all the advice and help on my other thread regarding ac barrels and a special thanks to Reedpete for the lend of my parts to mock up my AC engine👍 After dropping off my PV engine to a new owner today, had a visit from Uri Geller this afternoon to try and work some spoon bending magic on my trellis frame front engine mounts Still need a bit more heating, bending and twisting to get some more space for the barrels and heads but looking not too bad for first mock up Also plenty of room for some pod filters and a fabricated tank to live under the fibreglass tank moulding 👍 Plan now is to carry on heating bending and twisting until I am happy with the final shape and then I will make some engine mount spacers to finally fix the LC cases in their final position within frame. Then take a breather then look next to see how we can add some sort of exhaust system to this set up, as that will be the next big thing to solve and want this “problem” solved before I commit to sourcing a complete LC bottom end No doubt the project will continue in fits and farts with lulls in between but we are at last making some progress as now cooling issue is hopefully sorted Catch up soon Best wishes Al

Great to see more on this build Al. Looks like a snug fit but you're getting there!

Hi Alex
Hope you are well
Yes still a snug fit but aiming the get the frame open enough to allow you to drop the engine out of its location a single unit so you can build a full engine on the bench then lift it into position within the frame.
Like I said the exhaust and more the question of what do we need to do to add an exhaust is the next step and most likely will need the help of Mutts to advise the best solution
I think once an exhaust is added to the project fixed to the mock engine things should then progress with a bit more pace
Catch up again soon
Best wishes Al

Maybe you can keep the down pipes tucked right in at the front, rather than a nice curve. A bit like this picture, but tucked in even more...

Great to hear this is still happening, I thought you might have given up Al.
Assume the move to AC was to avoid the hassle of working out where to package the water in such a tiny space?

Hi Jon No had not given up but needed to think and sometimes you just have put a project down for a while and also got sidetracked by my CB400F project 😂 Yes also gone over to an air cooled engine to get round the cooling issues due to room or rather lack of it😔 Hope will have some more progress soon Best wishes Al

Hi all Not posted on this thread for a while but a quick update Big day tomorrow as now I have a set of cases and barrels from Reedpete plus a set of heads from Mutts got a planned visit by a local frame guy to discuss and finally sort out the required changes to the frame to accommodate the A/C barrels and heads and also sort out the frame where it fowls the lower chain 😀😀 Once these two issues are sorted then will plan a trip with the project to see Andy at 2T Engineering to discuss how we are going to sort out building a pair of exhausts To be honest if I get that sorted next year will be well happy and my two main issues that caused the project to stall are finally solved Ride safe all and I will say it now “Happy Xmas all” Best wishes always Al

Good to see this moving forward again mate. Going to be a cracker for sure. Alex Thanks Alex Hope you are well At one point early this year was thinking of just giving up but have now set myself two realistic goals (due to the complexity of the project) So my two goals for now are sort frame then sort exhausts then I will sit back and only then start to plan the next phase👍 Take care buddy Best wishes Al

What a wonderful project.
I had an alloy beam frame Tigcraft with a Yamaha XT600 based engine (Approx 70bhp). It did go vey well :-)

Great news Al, projects like this tend to go in fits and starts with a rollercoaster of emotions when things get hard/costly etc.

It did go vey well :-) Yes it’s come along way Stated as a snap decision to buy in late 2018 as just a collection of parts loosely assembled (just a bare frame, swing arm, a pair of wheels and a Cagiva front end but nothing put together properly So lots of time spent making parts to get it to a rolller but then ran into the issue of fitting a rad in a place with no space and run out of enthusiasm. This pic shows just how small the project is But its on the go again and I will see how it progresses in 2023

Hi Alan good to see this moving forward again. The engine spacer you have pictured here is not the best way to fix the engine in place unless you are going to mount hard without rubber mountings. Ok there will not be the same forces trying to move the engine compared to my Bakker bike, but i would suggest you think about making a spacer that covers the same area as the rubber mounting washer if the aircooled cases is the same as the lc cases. It's just a suggestion to learn from someone else's mistake.
The area of that rubber/steel washer is very important. I'm sure you can make a more eloquent version than my MK2 version. The left picture shows MK1 next to MK2

Haha, thats a great pic! Al isnt a giant, its a very small bike, more like a 125 than a 250 even. One of the things I love about my XT500 motard project is that with 17s on it feels like a DT50 its so small. I reckon this is such a great project. It'll take dedication to build and Al is the man to do it. Hats off to him for taking us along for the ride

Great to see it moving on Al The aircooleds are great engines, and with a few upgrades will still be quick enough for most scenarios Also saves you a lot of headaches thanks to no water cooling. Look forward to seeing it progress Dusty

That is soooo small, must weigh nothing
As jonw says the later banshee anti vibe washers don't just have the thin rubber strip, they are all rubber
Drop me a pm if you need any. They are about £20 each from Fowlers but I just got 10 from the far East much cheaper 😉

The picture on the right hand side above is a bit misleading the rubber face should be facing the engine. The recess is also probably not needed but i wanted to squeeze the rubber part a little more against the engine.
