Hi Mark
Yes the hose clamps JonW and Jon put up
You can go for the Wurth one's or Norma or Jubilee, as they all make the same style
You can even get them in full stainless, including the worm drive
Standard Wurth or Norma have a stainless band, however the worm drive is zinced steel
They don't require tensioning up too high either, 3.5Nm is all that is required
You are not trying to crush the hose, only torque enough so the hose seals around the spigot, if you over tighten a hose clamp you are more likely to have a leak as the hose deforms to a type of pear shape as opposed to circular
I'm glad you are not offended, every day is a school day, and let's face it in this build you are doing we've had a lot of school days with you as the teacher

One nagging issue I had, was in using the Honda NC29 swing arm, (and not having the right hand side scalloped to miss the frame tube as my frame is spread), the rear brake hose, might foul the swing arm if the rear suspension hits full travel. So, I decided to extend the connection to the rear master cylinder. I made an extension piece SDC12212I then extended the temp sender wire SDC12213 I also had to make a chain guide to protect the rear swing arm SDC12215 And fitted (I have to touch in the black rivet heads) SDC12217 And finally, my top T piece fitted for the connection to the top of the radiator SDC12216 Cheers, Mark

Some lovely detail there Mark, especially the chain guide, and a neat solution to the rear M/Cyl potential issue 👍🏻.

Thanks Bezzer and Denzil. Another problem with moving the engine to centralize it, is the oil drain plug fouls the right frame tube. It's not in the middle of the tube, but on the outer half of the tube. I formed a cutout in the frame, so that a modified sump plug could be fitted. I used an early Ford Escort sump drain bolt, and needed to reduce it's flange diameter, the hex is 13mm SDC12211 And fitted SDC12220 I also made a new gear change shaft sleeve, and fitted the secondary drive sprocket SDC12218 I also painted the rear brake extension piece and assembled SDC12219 Cheers chaps, oil pump next

I've only just caught up with Mark's recent updates. There's no denying that this is yet another fabulously challenging build that, as we've come expect from Mark, is absolutely superb. What I lose sleep over is how far it'll get down the road with those shoddy, dare I say cheap, razor edged hose clips fitted

I assure you he is not going to loose any sleep over my build, he just has a brilliant sense of humour and is taking the rise out of me . Thanks Stusco for answering arbar121's question. Thanks firebird67 and Denzil for your comments- especially Denzil, always such kind words- appreciated mate. And thanks to Bezzer and Stumpy for coming to my rescue regarding that "dastardly cbm" Cheers lads, and hope to see a few of you at Kempton Saturday

Sorry for the late post chaps Oil Pump Nearly all the hard work has been done on the oil pump. I now have to assemble my LC/RG500 fusion creation These are the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle SDC12228 I mark out and file 2 flats on the input shaft, remember this is a modified LC worm drive shaft SDC12221 After tightening the 2 grub screws, I use a cobalt drill bit to drill the gearwheel and shaft. I drill within 1mm of breaking through SDC12222 I then repeat on the oil pump, which was hard to hold level and without damaging the RG500 pump SDC12223 I then hammer a hardened steel pin into the newly drilled hole, and using a punch, pein over the hole. The steel pin is an interference fit, but this will ensure the pin can't come out witch would be a disaster SDC12224 I then remove the grub screws, grind them so they sit below the surface. Then I red Loctite them in place, and pein over the holes. Cheers, Mark

Oil pump part 2 Image of the grub screws loctited and peined over SDC12231 Next, I insert the bush I made for the input (driven) shaft SDC12232 It's an interference fit, but I JB weld it in place SDC12229 And new drive wheels, pins and circlips, ready to be fitted SDC12230 Cheers, Mark

Lovely work Mark - I must’ve missed the update when the adaptor plate was fixed inside the case?, I’m looking forward to seeing the pump mounted in place & pipe runs etc.
Superb buddy 👍🏻😁

It had to be welded in position before the engine cover was powder coated. Hope you're good mate

Oil pump part 3 I'm working on 3 sections of the bike at the moment. The oil pump, Carbs/intake, and chain guard. Oil pump input shaft fitted SDC12233 Next, the cover plate for the reduction gearbox (the 2 threaded posts are the pump mounts, the thin post is for the cable pulley and guide) SDC12234 Next an image of the balance pipes, I had to lower the pipes so they miss the fuel taps. (I still have to check the extended choke misses everything). SDC12225 Now the rear chain guard threw up a bit of a surprise. The NC29 arm must be more horizontal on the 400RR, the chain guard, when I fitted it, looked at an odd angle. It ran uphill a touch. So I fabricated a new front mount to change the angle SDC12226The new front mount came from a section of 4LO rad cover, and I cut back the chain guard to fit the swing arm (nearly 20mm) SDC12227 Last part of the oil pump next week Cheers, Mark

Thanks Alex and Denzil Oil pump part 4 (last bit) I made a gasket and mounted the oil pump to the cover plate SDC12235 You can see 2 of the outlets and the inlet unions have been set to a new angle, I have 4 pumped lines and the inlet (feed) pipe as well as the control cable to fit in this area This shows the oil pump driven gear and the splash oil feed (from the gearbox oil). Remember the Suzuki pump has an oil seal at it's input shaft behind the the new reduction gear, so the reduction gears have to use the gearbox oil for lubrication. SDC12236 Both plastic drive cogs fitted for the oil and water pump SDC12237 That's the oil pump finished apart from the check valves and oil lines. I feel I've had to go into detail on the oil pump as there are a few LC multi cylinder builders out there, and it's nice to share the information of how I've got an autolube system working. Sorry to the people I've bored the tits off Carbs next, brass balls out of the air correction circuit. Stripped, cleaned, ultrasonically cleaned and set up with new jets. SDC12238 And new brass balls fitted SDC12239 So that leaves the oil lines, check valves, throttle cable, plumbing to finish. Then fit the exhausts, radiator/cover, and the fuel tank and side panels. I should be comfortably finished before Stafford, where I plan to show the bike. Cheers, Mark

To design and modify an auto lube system is a fantastic achievement Mark, I’m sure I speak for most of us, when I say that I’m sure no one is bored of reading about how you managed this. Just to package it is amazing in my view, let alone the functionality aspect of it!. Excellent work chap.

Hi Mark,
No your not boring the tits off of us.
I sometimes have people comment on the thread I started about eBay chancers. They can’t see why some of us winge about prices. It’s partly to warn the newbies.
Anyway as with both threads you know what they are about, so if you you don’t like the subject matter, don’t read or comment.
I like your build so am interested in every detail.
Jon

There is a reason a lot of the previous multi cylinder Lc's ( and other strokers) have been built to run on premix - because it so bloomin hard to do right with a pump! I just hope the peeps that see this at Stafford, who are not involved with this forum, can appreciate just how much effort has gone into making this all work. Sheer genius ! Dusty

I like your build so am interested in every detail. Jon Thanks Jon, it's a brilliant thread you created. I dislike the way people hike up prices on Ebay- the inflated price quickly becomes the new norm and this upward spiraling circle means most of us can't afford to build bikes. I recently did the Kempton Park autojumble with Dusty. A brilliant day with Dusty. I had a set of mint Micron GP pipes for an LC, sold them to what I thought was an enthusiast for £330,the next day they were on Ebay for £1,000 . 250LC pipes, VGC I sold for £220, on Ebay next day advertised as 350 pipes £750! Anyway Jon, I know it's a while back, but you played a pivotal part in the early stages of this 700 build. Your work was far more impressive than the fabricator I used for the triple build. I am still grateful mate
