I sold a rd over 2 years ago, just got a message threatening me,saying it's cost thousands, but was total rebuild and I spent crap loads on it,I built it rode it with rd forum members ,engine was built by Dave Higgins as I bought bike part built and owner gave up,I have never had a problem with selling any of my bikes and never had anyone threaten me after 2 years of buying the bike,I have moved now so he is welcome to come round, wat are people's views as I'm not happy getting slated on here or threatened after he bought my bike 2 years ago

I certainly don't agree with bullying and threats so that's a big no for me.
It's always a case of buyer beware, and up to the buyer to ensure he is happy with what he is buying, before completing the sale. People have very different views on bike conditions etc.
I have heard of a few cases where problems have come to light a few weeks after the sale and the buyer and seller have come to an agreement of some sort of compensation. I think that is fair as problems are not always obvious to buyer or seller. To complain after 2 years is a bit out of order though.
Sorry to hear about this sort of thing and hope it doesn't blow up out of proportion.

There is no guarantee/come back when buying a vehicle privately, well as far as I know,...especially if you wrote 'sold as seen' on the paperwork.

Sold as seen written means jack shit, problems arise if the item has been misrepresented in the sale, ie "runs perfect with no problems whatsoever "then its found to have a problem that was almost certainly present at time of sale, it just hasn't manifested itself since. Caveat emptor does apply outside of these conditions en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caveat_emptorTo be clear I'm in no way implying that this is the case in this issue

Report to admin let Norbo see message and figure out what’s to be done if anything. Fingers crossed it dies down.

“Sold as seen” isn’t enough to give the seller any real cover legally , however as far as I’m aware stating that the vehicle is “sold as it stands with all its faults and with no warranty whatsoever given or implied” on the receipt and both yourself and the buyer signing and keeping a copy of it would do it.
To complain about an item purchased two years previously is at best absurd . To make threats to the seller after all that time is ridiculous , Norbo needs to deal with this asap

No legal standing 2years later, however people do need to be mindful of malicious communications and libellous statements when posting online or when sending private messages.

When you are talking about classic vehicles especially, I guess that the rarity/availability/price of some of these parts wouldn't make a longer or more comprehensive warranty a feasible option anyhow.

If I’d bought a pup I’d be frustrated but after this much time you really haven’t got a leg to stand on. Maybe the seller felt compelled to come back on here to defend his corner from the inevitable shit slinging that will ensue.

Making threats is not what I would like from the buyer.

Aah Facebook don’t do it for precisely these type of reasons. The problem with old bikes is precisely that they are old they breakdown they are susceptible to the merest whim. You only need look at this here site.

2 years ago, good bad or whatever it is too late to complain now, I’m sure if it was that bad that it needed 2k spending to rectify I’d be more than annoyed but why wait until now to vent? secondhand anything you’ll always be taking a risk unless you pay for a professional inspection.

Here we go you where told when I got home after buying bike that my mechanic friend had found movement on the fly wheel you said it was ok but it wasn’t only did 300 miles on bike because engine was getting louder so finally I opened it up yes new bearings fitted but they where knackered just fell off the crank ends as they been spinning free because the cases and crank was knackered Stan Stephens had to machine them back to true and put over size bearings in brand new crank I bought. The barrels where not .25 as was said, they where .75 and did look worn big gouge in barrel near exhaust port where looked like a ring had gone before plus exhaust stud was held in with a pin and emetal barrels now at engineering shop getting old stud out that’s still in clutch was worn and basket gear shaft badly worn not counting wrong stanchions on one late one early can you see why I’m still pissed don’t expect to spend 5 k to buy a bike then to rebuild engine after a few hundred miles

I feel for you both, and I know this wont help anyone out
My bike which i bought for $5000 blew up too, the oil pump wasn't set up properly it cost me $2500 to rebuild
Unfortunately we don't have any come back as it was a private sale, you can do all the tests, mine was done by a very good mechanic, however legally he wasn't allowed to take a spanner to the bike to check the finer details like the oil pump not pumping enough oil
I look at it as a learning experience as i now know, well mostly how to pull them apart and get them back together again, with a bit of help on the together again bit
Maybe let bygones be bygones and move on, i did
