I also asked him not to cover the frame number so he's going to mask that bit off and clear coat it.

Hi mate Agree - Jamie is a top fella, and does a great job. He does loads of Cerakoting nowadays, plus vapour blasting - not many nearby that offer that - I used to have to go to the other side of Reading for vapour in the past. He Cerakoted the Lc cylinder head recently, and will do the side cases, including the plastic oil pump cover as Cerakote (airdry) is great on plastics. He used to race MotoX, and loves bikes and cars. His attention to detail is fantastic - fussier than me, if that's possible !! Dusty

Haha! Yes he is a perfectionist. He had some Bentley parts that he had to restore before coating them. Look better than new to me. And his Ford pick up truck is unreal! When I pick up the frame some engine parts and my carbs will be deposited for his sublime handiwork. Thanks for letting me know about him Dusty.

Hooray! Jamie sent me a message. My frame is done! He's away until Monday so I'll pick it up then and at the same time drop of the forks for a cerakote and some bits to be vapour blasted. Happy days. And I have plenty of room in the lounge now after Dusty's help moving about eight tons of antique furniture out. I have some snazzy modern stuff in here now. Alex

I picked up the frame today. Jamie does superb work! And he did the subframe and side stand too. I did ask him to not cover the frame number so he left it blank and lacquered over it. He told me that he found out it's now an MOT requirement...so if you get yours done... I've left the forks with him for some cerakote and the footrest hangers for an acid bath and then a vapour blast. So the first job is to fix the chain rash on the swinger and then paint it... I've filled it and will flat it all back tomorrow. Alex

Looks like he's done a great job Alex He did the same with my frame number on the Cafe bike - clear coated the numbers so it wont rust. The next Kempton autojumble is on the 22nd of this month. You could stock up on fasteners there - cheaper, by far, than the guys at Walton. Always good to rebuild a special with new stainless nuts and bolts Dusty

I shall be doing just that and have about half a ton of them!
One thing I forgot, he said the previous 'powder coat' job on the frame was very poor...so poor that they didn't even shot blast it properly as he tells me my frame used to be red!!

Avoid from now on then. They did my Cafe bikes wheels, but I was pretty firm with Luke from the beginning on what I wanted, and they turned out as I wanted, but I guess wheels are a lot easier than a frame. Jamie is my "go to" for all that now, plus he will weld up damage if he finds it after blasting old coatings off. He will often weld up the footrest mounts on Motoxers as they get "ovalled" in spills, so he gets them back to "round" before coating them - not many firms would bother even looking. Hoping to drop my clutch case in for Cerakoting next week - he does as much of that now as powder. Glad you are pleased with it Dusty

Very pleased indeed and he's a great find. And cheaper than de corrosion! I missed a few bits on the swinger, but all filled, sanded and now in primer. Alex

Looking Good Alex, huge progress!
To reiterate what Dusty said, your guy is a gem and you should keep him in business. Most PCers defo dont look at what theyve blasted and Ive had frames and exhausts coated in the past over the holes they blew in the parts and they had zero remorse. 2mins of checking at the point after blasting can save a bunch of time/effort/money later. If this work is 'just a job' to them then you need to move on, luckily you have found someone who cares to do a good job; sadly rare in this world.

Totally agree with that Jon I found time to drop my clutch case and oil pump cover into Jamie yesterday. He likes a chat , and he mentioned your frame Alex !! Decorrosion had blasted it, but not particularly well, and he found evidence of oxidation on the frame under the coating - they probably wet blasted it and then didn't coat it soon enough afterwards. Still, no matter, it's done right now He was blasting a Chevvie wing panel when I got there yesterday - a real ball ache of a job as it was full of filler and rust. He takes on stuff that he really doesn't want to do, but likes to help people out (and doesn't know how to say "no") , but all he really wants to do is bike parts, as that's what he loves. He knows exactly what to mask off, and he showed me a Honda swingarm that he removed the bearings without damaging them, coz the customer didn't want to buy new ones( maybe unobtainable ?) !! He does it right, and that's a rarity nowadays. Dusty

Masked off the bearings on the swinger and started painting it today...and then run out of paint. Sadly my local motor factor closed years ago so I've ordered a 400ml can from the Bay.
And I need to make a wooden frame stand like Dusty did. I do have the wood to do it but in order to reach it I'd need a bulldozer. Handily a neighbour is having some work done and she has a skip outside full of offcuts, so I asked if she could check with the builders tomorrow to see if I can have some. Also had a good look at my side panels and tail piece today and they are pretty poor to be honest so I'll get some spanky new ones from Norbo.

Hi mate There is a really good, dedicated auto paint shop on the Kingston Rd, part of the autoparts place next door. Over the road from the now defunct Blackdog Motorcycles. I will knock you up a frame stand mate. I've got cls offcuts and know the dimensions. Give me a few days though, but not a problemπ

Oh wow cheers Dusty! The lack of a frame is slightly pausing any work...but I still need to paint the swinger and get the forks back from Jamie.
As for the paint shop...I had NO idea that was there. I've just ordered the new parts from Norbo and it might be worth a go, see how good they are and what price too. Lora might get a visit as well if I can't shift the water spots.

A good day today as parts arrived! The plastics from Norbo, and they are superb, and also the paint I needed for the swing arm. So after the fog cleared (yes it was foggy) and the sun came out I finished painting the swinger and put that on the frame. Started bringing stuff in from the workshop (as you can see!) and I gave the rear wheel a good clean, Alex style... Couldn't resist a trial fit of a side panel and yes I know the grommets are upside down, soon cured that. Then it was time to fit the YSS shock. Damn it was a snug fit but it all went together nicely. And my nipple fell off! Won't be losing any sleep over that, I don't think it matters that much. Alex
