I was pleasantly surprised to find some large parts are still available for my LC new from my local Yamaha dealer but I have been a bit disappointed so far.
Bought new clock cases but they are for a foreign market as the oil warning has oil/stop/tail on it and there is Taiwanese (?) writing on what I presume is a speed warning lamp at the bottom of the cluster.
New handlebars fit fine but the knurled section is not completely covered by the handlebar clamps and they are gloss not satin finish so it looks a bit poo.
Various nuts and bolts have a cheap looking black finish.
Are there any other new parts that are best avoided? I am tempted with a rad guard but don't want to be disappointed again.

You would have been more disappointed if they were all NLA. OEB

Rad guards are ok, so no worries there.

Got all my stuff off Norbo, all correct finishes, handlebars are satin and knurls covered. Lots have those clock covers and stick a Yamaha sticker over the writing, last NOS top I saw go on eBay was almost £300.

Original finish wasn't very good either.

You would have been more disappointed if they were all NLA. OEB Of course, but if I had known I would have tried to restore my originals ( they were in a bad way) rather than fitted what I regard as sub standard new parts.

And todays lesson learnt is to check part numbers before ordering/purchasing to see if a part has been superseded. OEB

The best thing to get rid of the additional writing on the binacles, is not to put another bit of writing over the top that shouldn't be there either, but get a cotton bud (like what you clean your ears out with...lol), dip it in some original T-Cut and very gently rub the writing off

When I refurbished my clock cover I stuck an overlay on from imageworks, if the writing can be "erased", then erase it all and new overlay, job done.

I have had new bolts from fowlers recently and they don't come with the original green finish unfortunately more a black finish. Best to use a specialist firm to recoat all the fixings back to the green drab finish. There are a couple of companys been mentioned on here before.Forget their names I'm afraid.

I guess to some it does. For the little effort to rub out the extra text at the bottom and also where it should just have "Oil" written, and then an overlay (as Russpuss said) either the whole binacle, or just the "Oil" text, will make them look exactly the same as the originals, unless looking very very closely On the set I did ages ago, it took no more than 5 mins

This is why I don't have a standard bike. Back in the day no one kept them standard, mudguard chopped down, spannies etc, yes pay homage to the LC but don't let it detract from the dare I say it 'riding'.

Doesn't stop me riding any of my bikes (standard or not) having the binacle looking correct I assume you're making a point that some people are so anal about their bikes they can't enjoy them ?.

I am saying that sometimes it detracts from what they are and that is a motorcycle. I was building a 100% accurate immaculate LC over 10 years ago I bought Nos everything and became obsessed by every little detail and realised that the reason I love LC's was the fun of the ride not wether the bolts had the right shade of passivate or if it did or didn't have the chain adjustment sticker on the chain guard. The other thing for me was as soon as it hit the road it would lose value. So my personal view is it shouldn't matter if it does or doesn't have the correct writing on the clock binnacle just ride the thing. Yes opinions are like arse holes everyone has one.
What I mean is I'm not under the impression I'm right and everyone else is wrong I just don't get the way it has to be better than new

Quick pic of mine with overlay fitted. Mines not a show pony, puts a right grin on my chops every time I ride it though.

Nearly all the bolts etc now have a black passivate finish instead of the green. The black is supposed to be far more corrosion resistant than plain zinc. I either live with them of just get them replated
