I should also mention the fact that I'm colour blind so it absolutely really means the colour doesn't matter!

Hi I did lacquer them in the end and they do look better for it. Bit more protection too as you say, let's see how they weather during the summer, not a big job to get them powder coated next winter if need be, Cheers Chris

I forgot how long it takes to actually mask off, but the best results follow the best preparation, so hopefully this prep is good! Attachments:

Oh dear, need to get stuck into this at the weekend! Actually the engine itself is fine, cranks very clean, so probably a refresh of the top end and back together. If I can get this done and in the frame over the weekend I will feel I actually have a chance! Attachments:

and this where I am at the moment. Once the front wheel goes in, I will then concentrate on getting the engine ready, I really want it in at the weekend. Then the serious plumbing and electrical work starts and all the other bits to go on but I still have the radiator to sort, the brackets for the oil tank, expansion tank etc and i forgot I'm away for the Qatar MotoGP followed by a jolly at Abu Dhabi! Two weeks out of the available time left and I absolutely forgot about it! Holy crap, there's not much time left!! Looks like a lot of late nights and early mornings! Attachments:

Started to refresh the top end this morning, plan was to have the engine in the frame by close of play today. Removed the rear pistons, in turn, and replaced the small end bearings, re-fitted and got to the front right piston and was disappointed to the state of it! I hadn't noticed before because I'd checked the cylinders as they came off and they were fine, so didn't suspect anything was wrong with the piston. Pleased I decided to check though, no matter the disappointment. Attachments:

What to do now though? I'm away 3 days this week, then away for two weeks after Easter for the MotoGP and a jolly, running out of time. Time to jump in the van with the cylinder, piston and cylinder and hightail to Kevin Armstrong at Armstrongs, Westgate Road. Kev had a quick look, no problem, he can sort by next weekend for me. Full set of new pistons required, plus rings etc obviously but not the complete disaster I was thinking it was. Engine will be dropped off with Kevin Monday morning and hopefully picked back up on Wednesday when I return. Thanks Kevin! Attachments:

In the meantime, I'll drop back onto restoring and painting various bits and pieces, such as the radiator and clip ons. I need to have a good day tomorrow of getting the rolling chassis built up a bit more. Attachments:

Got a bit done anyway after my mini-depression! Just means that the sequence of building I had in mind will change. Also, actually restoring original parts is so much more satisfying than just buying pattern parts and fitting! Nothing wrong with pattern parts if you can't get the originals or need to build to a budget. I'll post progress tomorrow evening, hopefully it will look quite substantial! Cheers Chris ps if any of you guys are on the other forums, would you mind posting a link to this in order to advertise the ride out, if that isn't breaking any protocol though. Attachments:

Hi, It is good news and also expensive, but I will be keeping the bike so it is the right choice to replace the lot with a decent set. Cheers

This is where I am at the moment. I really need to get the engine in and start working around it. I have it in the back of the van to drop with Kevin in the morning, hopefully I'll have it back for the weekend. Attachments:
