Had a little blast on these two today. Red & White one for a little cafe run with my wife on pillion then a solo thrash on the Blue & White N2. IMG_2574[4827] by Gary Woodward, on Flickr

Had a local engineering shop put some PB bushes into the RHS footrest hanger and Rear brake shoe plate, to take 40 years of slop out of the linkage.

My brother gave me a call "Bro, the LC is running like a dog, I think it is the carbs and that new sh*te petrol" "oh it's also making a strange rattling noise too" At least we have got to the bottom of it

WTF happened to that float… and how do I ensure mine never look like that?
Where did the main jet get to?
Was the other carb similar or was this a localised catastrophe?
So many questions, so few answers.

Yeah It is a recent acquisition as a running resto needing a bit of attention. We had figured on a bottom end rebuild anyhow so we at least now know what is wrong with it. Carbs actually cleaned up ok but will get a total strip and clean. The main jet was removed before the photo. Nice winter job ahead by the look of things. John

It was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment really, there is no way something the size of a main jet could get up and out of the carb bowl and into the engine etc.

Not directly for it but will be used for them Bought a 12 ton press Steve Well not all going to plan 🤨 1st job was to press out a YZF yoke stem, press out an FZR stem then press the FZR stem into the YZF yoke Set it all up and gave it a few pumps till the lever was firm. Blow lamp on the alloy yoke for a couple of minutes, there was a crack and the stem moved about 1mm Pumped away and stem pressed out easily Undid the release valve and the ram moved back but stopped midway Daft thing just moves a couple of mm back and forth now when you pump the handle (and yes I did tighten the release valve again) One message sent to seller, I'll see what comes back 🙄 Steve

Check how much oil is in it as well, they dont always get properly filled at the factory or leak out etc. Its amazing to me how many bottle and trolley jacks ive had that had no leaks and yet were low and hence not very powerful. Clean around the seal as well, it may have paint on it that catching etc. They are usually reliable once working of course, thats why the chinese can make and sell thousands a week etc.

I've checked the oil and it is just below the fill hole as per the instructions
I've had the pressure relief valve out and it looks fine
I've takes the release screw out too and it looks of but I can't get the ball out the seat at the bottom but all looks ok
There is some fluid around the small cylinder seal which ain't good
I had to let out the pressure relief valve to get it to withdraw so maybe the release valve is stuck
Either way it ain't doing what it should
Oh and I did try I bleeding it but no difference

Hmm... could well be duff then Steve, that sucks as its a lot of wasted time in dismantling to put it back in its box for refund etc. Ive been there with one of these only 12 months back. First one i bought i only got 1 box from the set of 2. They get me box 2 from the warehouse. But while it was for the same model, it was a slightly different version so my H frame was more like an A frame as some parts were smaller and nothing fitted right. Took a while to work out what was going on as all the numbers tallied etc. I took the lot back and gave up lol.
I do sometimes wonder about the specs of these units. some look exactly the same and say 10T and some say 12T. makes you wonder etc. if only there was a simple test for that id love to give it a go.
You might remember ages back that my bike ramp dumped its oil as the limit bolt came loose on the pedal and allowed the lever to back off. Rubbish design lol. It worked a lot better with new oil and a clean up and it was only about a year or so old at the time. I did wonder what quality fo oil was in it as well lol.
