Fitted a Dynatek hi performance ignition coil. I wasn't expecting to feel too much difference but I'm pleasantly surprised at how much better the pickup is on the bike now.

I feel 68 🤣 Oh, and I've had the 385 out on the road 😘 Steve Steve what was it like. Did you like it. Pull any wheelies Only rode it 4 miles to the Mot station and 4 miles back. I'd dropped the pilot one size to lean the bottom end and raised the needle one notch to riches the mid as it runs the hottest there Also turned the air screw in from 2 1/2 to 1 1/2 The machine gunning at 4-5k on neutral throttle seemed worse ☹ On a positive the clutch didn't slip and it's still a looney above 7k 🤣 Steve

Bought some JIS 8mm dome nuts last week and fitted them to 2 bikes today, replacing non oem nylock nuts and galv dome nuts. Hopefully the nightmares will now abate, and my none oem nut sacrifices should keep Lord Rivet Counter, the great leader of the green passivate peoples, happy.

Pulled out my F1 as there has always been a bit of a knock from the forks when moving the bike about in the garage. I bought all new OEM top 'n bottom bushes and new seals and set to work getting them off the bike. Long story short; when off the bike I undid the bottom bolts and then lifted the forks up by the stanchions and out they came, dropping the lower legs onto the floor... er, hold on! I'd not yet undone the spring clips, WTF?! Yep, when did both lower bushes become 'delete options' on this model. madness.... Looking on the bright side, no long hours spent trying to locate the source of the knocking needed! Ok, Is this the fault of me or the DPO? Well... when i bought the bike (12 or so years back) the seller told me he'd refurbed the forks and as I didnt have the tools handy I trusted him. Time and time again we tell people not to do that. And yeah, me who has done lots of bikes also fell for this BS. So, Im blaming myself really... NEVER TRUST THE SELLER, EVER! Onwards... seals and top bushes came out with the 2 legged puller kit with expanding dies (best purchase ever for doing forks, so easy to do) and I set about cleaning... Then this dropped out. Sigh... Yep... as expected, I find I have a matching pair when looking in the other side. Cleaning done (it was horrible in both legs) and the build up goes smoothly. Forks back in the bike and they feel plush and lovely. Well worth the hassle. So, why were these lower bushes missing? I can only assume its because some people's idea of full restoration is different than another's. The last guy in there must have not read the manual and put the top bushes back in first and wondered why the legs would not go back in. Rather than realise they needed to pull the top bushes (may not have been possible for them without having the lower bushes to slide hammer them up and out) they then removed the bottom ones and slipped in the legs. Cue their relief and not much head scratching at their house i guess. In the bin with the lower bushes, obviously not needed lol. Until you hear the knockity knock.... The joys of DPOs...

Cleaned up the bores and pistons on the proposed 250 top end for Project Kevin. the 0.50 O/S Pistons seemed a bit baggy in the bores so measured the ring gap... 3.5 mm at 2cm down from the top and 2mm at the bottom of the bore ! email sent to PJME for quotes on pricing and turnaround time of a rebore/new pistons.

Been doing some bits on the problematic 3hm1 fuelling Finally stripped the carbs and found needle jet nozzles were the correct 345 P2 but the needles were 5N12 or something daft like that Threw £100 at new genuine 345 P2 nozzles, 4N10 needles, 155 mains and 25 pilots so hopefully that will finally sort the rich running Fitted a NOS 1ua throttle cable to match the 1GA carbs (from the Aus model as I junked the crappy linked Jap ones) and the 3hm1 throttle Cosmetically I decided the standard pipes needed work so got the chambers ceramic coated Look lovely , nice and thin coat 😍 Hopefully have the new silencers from Swarbrick soon 🤞 Steve

Today I progressed with reclaiming an old fuel tank using the cleaning method here... This doggy old tank which has been hanging on the wall of my garage for 25 years, has been sitting with Caustic soda in it for 5 days. It had been lined with some kind of epoxy coating, but as it had been in there for so long, and because I have literally no recollection of where this tank came from, or who had it before me, I wanted to take it back to the metal. After emptying out the caustic soda, the liner came out in shreds. It took circa 15 times, filling with water to rinse it out, then upending it to get the bits out but finally, all the pieces of old liner, (so many pieces), came out... ...along with this... ...which I'm guessing is a datatag chip. Now it's time for the hydrochloric acid bath. A pint of water, and approx. 170ml of Spirits of Salt. Firmly close the hole with a petrol cap with the breather hole bunged up, and swirl around the tank for a couple of minutes. I wore my wet weather riding gear for this bit, along with some safety goggles. Now let it stand for 10 minutes to let the chemicals work their magic. then a couple of tankfuls of water to rinse out the acid. A miraculous transformation of the tank interior. Lastly, to "coat" the steel surface with some kind of protection, I put about 500 ml of phosphoric acid in, and followed the same steps as with the hydrochloric. Seal, swirl, stand, and thoroughly rinse. It still has some water inside, so it's time to remove the blanking plate, (Note, I have one made of steel now. the aluminium one dissolved when caustic soda seeped down the threads.), and apply some heat to warm the metal and evaporate the remaining water. While I had the heat gun out, I wondered if I could remove the, (hideous, sticker type), decals... Yes! I know that Hydrochloric acid can cause flash rusting... hence the use of some phosphoric acid to finish off. will it work? don't know, but I'll keep my eye on it over the next few days and see if I get any rusting.

Apart from checking tyre pressures and putting battery back on the bike I had it all ready for a little run out today, that was until I could only find one of the 2 oblong nuts to secure the wires for the battery , so I knew I had some somewhere and when finally found they was 6mm and not the 5mm I wanted and 6mm bolt wouldn't go through the hole in the battery, so I did some gardening ☹ And then the post man turned up Mart
