SO, back in the summer, I bought a DT125LC YPVS import Its gonna get a rebuild, so it nows a good time to start. Its not gonna be concourse or have big money thrown at it - its mine and my daughters bit of fun: everything bar the frame will be home painted and repaired where possible. Good thing is, its complete, nothing missing which helps. Chloe has done most of the cleaning, the loom was awful but came up really well, as have the clocks. How it looked: the pictures make it look better than it was: After an afternoon in the garage: (Only one rusted bolt, too!) Needs a paint: Cases stripped bare - every last bearing binned, then vapour blasted: New piston and rebore. Crank rebuilt with RD500 big end: Shiny, shiny: Paint something small first for inspiration: Then Move on to something bigger: everything blasted, etch primed then satin barbecue paint: Had a few bits nickel plated as I think it lasts better than Zinc: This is the only bit I have had powdered: everything else painted by me: First bits back on: Bottom yoke and ID plate: Then the chinese puzzle: fitting the airbox and oil tank back into the frame spars - p!ss funny this Th'engines in: SO's the loom and clocks: DEP silencer after a tickle on the polishing wheel: More to follow!

Exhaust was a mess, so I bead blasted it at work then etch primered and barbecue painted it. A full tin: You can see the pitting beneath but no rust left, so should last a while: Painted the swingarm after bead blasting, but, like the exhaust, you could see pit marks. Flatted it off and now its got some stopper going off: Renthals were faded, so took the brace off, flatted and etch primed followed by satin black. Finish, like on all the other bits looks ace: Might have a do at repainting the swinger tomorrow, see how the mood takes me....

Very nice, great work. Thats the bike that my hybrid engine came out off lol. Imagine the back end of the frame bend round 90 degrees to the left and thats why he sold off the bike in parts lol...

A bit more done: Few bits bought from Yamaha: Footpeg stem, pin and washer amongst others: Swingarm decals from eBay: Swingarm finish painted with stickers on (looks great in the flesh): Forks polished up and seals done. New Gaiters fitted. Tank after a polish: Ebay bargain: XT125 front caliper, braided brake line and master cylinder, £21. Caliper isn't a direct fit, but a laser cut aluminium bracket will sort it. Its a two piston job with new pads in it so should be better than the original which has perished. The master cylinder looks stained in the pic but its real good. Rack fettled, painted and fitted: Footrests nickel plated look good: New rear pegs on: Suspension linkages fitted - think i'll get a price on the end caps: Chain rollers off eBay again with new stainless bolts as per every other fitting on the bike: Gonna build up and fit the swinger tomorrow, then put it onto its wheels.

Steve, Not using green bolts or genuine japanese air in the tyres, so have to be very careful using words like restoration.........

Bit more done - swingarm finished and fitted. New bushes where needed, movement is smoooooth with no play at all. Getting cold in that garage now, but the FPO won't allow the bike in the conservatory.

Think i have sussed why the XT125X calipe wont fit - its to suit a bigger disc - cant get it near enough to make a bracket. D'oh. So, it looks like this is gonna have to be refurbed after all. Rear brake lever looks better than new after plating. Starting to look like a bike now.

Been a bit lazy the last couple of weeks, due to the cold in the garage. Also, got fed up with the starsky - new lever, new cable and it was really stiff, almost a two hander. Adjusted and adjusted it with no luck. The cable felt smooth, but I formed a plasticene funnel at the top and filled it with oil overnight. Hey presto, smooth as silk. Weird, but at least its right now. Fitted the indicators, headlight, and the new cowl, looks good: Fitted th'exhaust and carb, rebuilt with new innards: Dunno why, but this is my favourite bit: rear brake lever: small things and all that. Might have a go at starting it soon:

That's a very nice 'tart-up' I've started looking for one of these, (possibly the Mk1) I think I nearly bought this one too, as it looked a good starting point, and not too far from me. Keep up the good work both of you, gonna look mint when finished.
