Right, the Dt is pretty much finished, so last weekend we started it up, second kick, happy days.
Today, though, it will not run, exactly the same as when i got it. It has a good spark so does not seem electrical as such. The timing is fixed, so cant be that? IT fires when you kick it over then runs for a couple of seconds then dies? If you touch the throttle, it dies. Sometimes gets a half hearted backfire too. The plug is wet when you take it out - could it simply be flooded? Tried kicking it for 5 mins with ignition, fuel and choke all off, with the plug out, but no better when you try again after? Tried both standard and iridium plugs. Its had a full engine rebuild, so its not mechanical. Anyone any ideas - I want to MOT it then get it registered.

i had a very similar thing wen a friend rebuilt my mk1. it turned out to be the flywheel wasnt on right. the woodruf key had slipped backwards and was stopping the flywheel seating properly even though it felt tightened up and looked as if it was on properly.

Got it running this afternoon. It was flooded so took a while. It seems very rich and was a little better with the air filter out. I'm going to take out the carb and check the internals against the microfiche to make sure everything is as it should be. Failing that, maybe the pilot circuit is blocked (the jet was when i stripped it) could do to borrow a carb to try.

Man that's sweet! GORGEOUS! I want one of those so bad but unfortunately I'm skint lol.
Got a helmet cam video of it? ;D
Oh btw, do you think the DT swingarm will fit an RD125 frame? Perhaps with some slight modding?

Ok, update time: Did 110 miles on it in the first may bank holiday and it was fine. Then the weather turned and we had a week in Greece so it's not been out the garage for 4 or 5 weeks. Went to it tonight, and it started first kick no problem! It's now running perfectly. Trouble is, it's a bit too small to go on the motorway to work and also a bit small to keep up with (some) of my mates..... Do I sell it or keep it? Seems a pity to sell and I'd be lucky to get my money back!

I know what ya mean, I have a RD125 and it's slow as hell sometimes. It's not exactly the best bike for highway use lol, it just simply has too little engine power. Sure, you can tune the engine and give it an extra tooth or two on the front sprocket, but this will make the bike far less reliable so...... I hate to say it, but your best bet would be to sell and buy a new bike that are faster. Unless ufcourse you're willing to stick a DT200 engine in it (a mod which I'm not familiar with, I don't know if it fits bolt-on or if you need to modify things to get the bugger in).

Lovely bike mate truly lovely. I don't think after all this effort in building it you should sell it id keep it. you'll sit back and think what the hell did I do if you sell it.

Think I need to post some more recent pictures! I have added a new monoshock (From an SV650 no less) with stainless steel cnc milled extension brackets so its sits 50mm higher than stock and cut the back muddie a touch. Think I will keep it for the summer at least then have another think......

Nice job on that, what do you think its cost to "tart up" :-)
Mate had a non YPVS one in blue in the 80s, always liked them

Nice job on that, what do you think its cost to "tart up" :-) I dread to think: I started totting it up a while back and got to £1200 and gave up: since then its had a NOS stator and been registered etc. Put it this way, I hope the FPO never finds out

SO, back in the summer, I bought a DT125LC YPVS import that needed nothing, and "ran perfect"........ Upon delivery from Milton Keynes, it became apparent that it didn't run perfectly, or indeed at all. "It was ok when it left here" professed the seller - yeah, right. Well I wrote a long write up to this, but proboards hung and Bill has since acknowledged my update in the other thread. All 3 bikes I offered Bill ran with carb/fuel system cleans (I still have the White one) I only sell my bikes with the intention someone is going to be happy with it or they get broken for much needed spares. A DT at this price only pays its way. I drive for 5 days in total, my record is 16 hours in one day trying to uncover these unmolested treasures and the 2nd leg to the Uk costs me £250. The last thing I'm going to do is not give an honest description. I have a DT125R for sale now and its a non runner!

Some mix up here? I was offered me the one I bought instead of the white one you had on eBay which you then sold. Maybe your memory is worse than mine!! Anyway, you did indeed sort out the paperwork you promised and offered a different carb to try which I never needed after the eBay stator bargain.

Yeah you're right! I presumed the White one that I still have was that one, I did say "think" in the other thread as it's difficult to remember after they go into storage and haven't been seen since. Your thread will motivate me to get mine out asap and hope I can make it look half as good as yours
