As I have finally got my LC after a 30 year gap I thought I'd better start a rebuit thead. Bought from Poland, originally from Germany. Piston exploded and owner took head and barrel off decided it was too much to repair and spent the last 10 years n a garage.Looked like this when I got it Spent a few evenings over the last couple of weeks dismantling and the barrell was badly scored And the crank has a bent rod and will need a rebuild. Hoping that I can save the webs. This how it looks now. Will post more pics as it goes on. Cheers Webbo

Good news! ;D I had my barrels re bored to see if they were salvageable as I was let down on some replacements and they are serviceable. Just need to sort the crank now. Is it best to rebuild or exchange? Cheers.

Remove the bolt at the bottom of the fork leg and pull the lower leg/s off. Then use a long, 5 mm steel rod (maybe a 6 mm will work aswell, not sure) and stick it through the hole at the bottom of the stanchions (the same hole where the M8 allen bolt for the lower legs should go) until it reaches the inside of the top plug, then tap like mad. You can make it with a shorter rod aswell, (it won't get stuck in the spring area or anything) but then you gotta "slam" the bugger in so it hits the top plug from behind. I used a rod that were some 50 cm long. I'd use a longer one if I could but that's all I had at the moment.

Bit of an update. Finally got the forks apart. Polished the bottems and rebuilt them. Loads of bits being powder coated, re zinced and been spending money left right and centre!. Just got these back today!! Like new just waiting for a crank from Norbo and then I can rebuild the engine.,....Can't wait.

Much excitment in the Webbo garage! Picked up powder coated stuff and the rest of my vapour blasted bits! Frame looks great, nice job on all the bits with all the treads protected and gasket surfaces kept clean. Also popped into Fowlers and bought some bits as I was in such a good mood. ;D Going to polish the wheels and paint them as original. Just waiting for some bits that I'm having rezinced and my crank and some bits from Norbo! I 've found a pair of original pipes that I have rubbed down and sprayed, then rubbed the runs out and re sprayed again I'm still on the hunt for a speedo or clock set. Couple of pics of me shiney bits!

The bike was origanally white/blue so hats what it's going back to. It's worth vapour blasting the cases but beware! You will end up buying new bolts etc for them 'cos the old ones will let the overall appearance down. I've found that the bits that I thought were ok to reuse with a buff up just don't cut the mustard! So its new bits or re paint/powder coat, re zinc etc. I've stopped adding up the money

Looking good fella! It's amazing how quickly the big lumps go back together and just as amazing how many little jobs take up all the time! I thought you were going to have a go at the wheels yourself? Seeing it all in bits takes be back to when mine was at that stage.... (All the way back to the beginning of December LOL)
Don't talk to me about the money ...................

I am doing the wheels myself but the only paint stripper you can buy now is crap and didn't touch them so decided to get the vapour blasted. Just got lots of polishing and masking to do now

Well after a bit of diversion due to a 50th birthday and a weeks snowboarding I have go back into the rebuild this w/end. Managed to finish the engine ;D probably the most satisfying part of a bike rebuild, Also started putting the backend together, And got all my green bits back, I started to do the wheels myself but just haven't got the time to do them so the people I used for the rest of the powder coating etc are finishing them for me. Still got a list as lomg as me arm to buy, clean, polish, paint etc! Loving it though. ;D ;D ;D

Well spotted! 'Tis indeed a '79 X7. I bought it as is. It's been rebuilt but just needs a few bits replacing to finish it as a very tidy rideable bike. All I need now is an aircooled RD to finish my set. ;D ;D
