Realistically you’d have to budget £20k for a top spec special today. Buying the original bike plus parts mine owes me £14-15k I reckon that with me doing a lot of the building and it is admittedly an as new bike, today I’d be looking at £20 to do similar eg the barrels etc have doubled. I’d imagine even doing a std hybrid Lc/Ypvs/rgv would stand you early to mid teens.

I’m aware that 400 barrels fit the 250 bottom end, do the widely available 350 barrels that you can buy new fit the 250? Anything else I’d need to know?

If you do that then you could use an oil line spigot ( Norbo sells them) tap a thread at the top fuel line out. I may still be convinced 👍

The good thing is you can have your tools in the tray and zip about like a darlek on speed.

So that’s a no then 😁. Can you separate the two parts? Guessing not. I love the look of them but never had one don’t think I will now. Real shame. Robs suggestion seems about the only way to do it, have a central hole with a vent pipe. Or could you drill into the central part into vent channel?

Is it possible to open the hole up from underneath using a bigger drill not all the way through but as long as the seal doesn’t completely cover the hole? It could then bypass the seal into the original air vent?

Wanted to find out more on this so it’s a 250 four stroke single based on the fz25, it makes 20bhp and weighs 165kg compared to 35bhp and 140kg of an rd250, that’s 40 yrs progress. I hope that retaining the rz/rd name doesn’t mean this or it’s like becomes the new rz250.

I have used stable flooring mats before and once my new garage is finished I will again. Hard wearing thick rubber matting that can be cut to size. Not the cheapest but a great solution.

Most people think that the cagiva was the most beautiful two stroke race bike, I’ve always preferred the yzr’s just something about the colour scheme/sponsors that I find appealing.

I loved my drz it was the e though 😁. Couldn’t get on with a stroker, I was enthusiastic but crap and my mates kdx made me realise I needed something easier to ride. Really miss off roading had more smiles per mile off road than on road.

Ran the Thursday after school engineering club today. Brilliant Rob. My old man was a cdt teacher at a comp he used to get his kids building all kinds of things they even won the old BP build a car and built a hover craft. Great skills for kids to be taught. Proper stuff for the kids to be doing well done matey 👍.

The frame issue does need putting into context that’s why I said for road use.

Always wanted to convert one for road use and tz chassis and Ypvs motor Ala Pb centrefold in the 80’s. I was steered clear of doing one on the advice of several forum members due to the fragility of the tz headstock area. I nearly bought a tz via John (Guiri) but the advice was not to on a std tz frame. From memory the Spondon and Harris frames were stronger here?

10 yrs ago you’d have split it junked most of it and only kept some parts. It’s only 10 ish years ago I binned two sets of cases several tanks and numerous other pieces of shite that today I’d recycle. 15 yrs ago I had a local bloke and we would drop round to each others homes and pick bits up from both of our considerable amounts of tat. Just shows where the market is at.

Total and utter hound, so basically an import frame? Or restamped stolen frame, f**ked cases that need replacing (you can also buy a set from him that also need repairs) and not sure of any engine internals, and everything else is just scrap. I suspect he bought it on the cheap then realised just how much it would cost to build and threw it into his garage. The amount that will take just to get roadworthy you’d be better buying a nice 250 and save yourself the bother.
