This is the one that is burnt into my memory.
I’ve no reason to think that another material would be any different?

That's horrific. It wouldn't even fit properly, let alone do its job in even the short term. Buying one of those would just be money down the toilet.

At least we know there are dies out there ready made, just got to convince the owner of them to allow them to make more product from them. Would save a lot of the development process cost etc.

If the tanks were all like that I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole for sure.

Retro are a Japanese firm that remade Pv tanks. There is a thread on the forum with pics from Retro, with a rack full of new, pattern tanks that they had produced. Can't remember if they were the early type or later type, but looked good non the less.

This one makes me laugh too. It is so wrong on many levels. Completely wrong shape, fuel cap in wrong position and the paintwork is laughable. Not cheap either. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/155462573428Jon

From Retro's Facebook page, 21/7/20; For the international customer, It's been a long time for production and release. We took a longer time than we expected for test and refurbishment. First production products had sold only in Japan because of it is easier to follow up if the some trouble happens. However, there are no problems reported. We will start selling the RZ-R Fuel tank for International customer from the second production line. It expect to be ready in a month. Please contact following email for the purchase or inquiry. retroenglishcontact@gmail.com For the people contacted on the messenger before, please contact the email again. Sorry for the inconvenient, but It will makes not confuse who we contacts and talking. We will be waiting for the contact. 56174932_2053355514718072_367613440639893504_n by dusty miller, on Flickr 55560426_2053355478051409_4518724354703360000_n by dusty miller, on Flickr 92236854_2769050509815232_6512404433559617536_n by dusty miller, on Flickr

Just saw this on the RZ500.com forum, guy was having trouble with the petrol tap alignment in his RZ350 side panel........then it turns out he'd bought the tank from India. If you need any further proof of why to steer well clear of these Indian bodge jobs just take a look at this picture, shocking! 😱😩

Im always surprised we discussion these tanks so often really. The most simple of searches on google finds you the threads that tell you to stay away.
In the old days people could be forgiven for not being 'technology savvy', but in 2024 I reckon everyone (even my mid 80s father who hates computers) can formulate a google search.
Just seems weird that we still question if they are usable... tho i do appreciate that people are typing it while praying that the answer is a resounding 'YES!' coupled with real experiences like '...the old ones were junk but the newer ones are a great fit. So light and well made. Perfect fit and finish...' etc. Hope, its a lovely thing...
Reality is a bit different lol Sadly none of us are spring chickens. We all know that something cheap is rarely cheerful and have experience enough to quote the old adage; 'buy cheap, buy twice' etc.
Anyway, no harm in asking the question again I guess so no disrespect to the OP, but Im thinking considering the bad news links on google that there cant be many who've bought one recently to give feedback on the more modern versions. Tho... Maybe on Fb where advice is fleeting and akin to modern 5 star reviews like 'Ive not ordered one of these yet, but they look great - 5 STARS' hmmm... useful..
Remember most of these were made in a country that didnt have the watercooled bikes. They make these tanks from photos from bits of old steel offcuts. Never a recipe for success.

A very wise man once told me that you cannot blame yourself so I don’t know whether to blame you for bringing this to my attention or Leeds United for winning on Saturday, leading to me drinking too much then going on eBay but either way I’ll be able to tell you all how bad this is in reality when I collect it at the weekend!

A wise man once also said "there's one born every minute" and something about money and a fool . No seriously, if the Mrs. hadn't been saying for years that I have enough bikes (she's probably right)and it wasn't at the other end of the country then I might have gone for it myself. Well worth it at that price I would say. Worth a gamble. I'd get the old tank off him. I'd rather have a welded up original than a brand new Indian job. Good luck with it and keep us updated/amused/entertained please.

That is an exceptional price regardless of the Indian tank. It's making some of the current advertised prices seriously too high?

That is an exceptional price regardless of the Indian tank. It's making some of the current advertised prices seriously too high? Look at the pictures, it needs a fortune investing into it to make it a decent bike, it needs the frame repairing/section replacing amongst other things. Engine has been rebuilt which I'd question the quality given that he hasn't bothered to refresh the paint, there's more wrong with it than right and that's just from the pictures and what you can see, it usually turns out far worse in the metal.

If you look closely and zoom in on the e bay bike with the new tank you can see exactly the same on that one, the fuel tap is barely visible.
