I've never owned that many bikes, but the worst bike for me was a Yamaha XS850 tripple. I swapped a Honda XL650 for it. I was in Australia at the time and i kept breaking the the Honda cylinder head(s) so swapped it after i repaired it. At that time in Ozz they would repair the roads and just make a dirt track next to the road. These dirt tracks were kilometers long and i could drive just as fast on the dirt track as on the road with the Honda. The XS was another Kettle of fish. On the road it was heavy to turn and felt very lardy compared to the Honda. On those dirt roads it was like "an ice skater on LSD" very scary and you had to slow down. For some reason to this day there was still something i liked about it (not sure what it was). I still like the Gpz 900r i have now joined a forum but have never posted yet. Just liked them ever since i saw one. I think it's that Darth Vader look. Unfortunately i have been seduced to the darkside, my bike is not fast enough and i need to turbocharge it. That's a long way off maybe more dream than reality. I do have a spare turbo charger for the Land Rover I wonder if that will fit? There was just something about the GPZ900's. They were much better than the GSX1100 and GPZ1100 but then the GSXR moved the game on again. Top Gun never did them any harm either I was thinking about buying only my second brand new bike in 1988. The GPZ900 and the GPX750 were both available new. I ended up with a year old GSXR1100H. Today I was looking at an old passport and noticed the stamp in it from when we entered Corfu in 1990. It had the bikes reg in it E880 RAT. Could never remember it. Last MOT 2017 so could be tucked away somewhere. Nice, I took my Triumph Sprint to Lefkadas and down to Athens ten years or so ago. What a brilliant trip. I had an early GSXR750F with the part polyester fairing. That was a lovely thing and loved to rev.

We were aiming for Athens but I developed what I can only describe as bed sores on my ar$e riding the little twisty coast road down to Dubrovnik we decided to spend a few days there while it healed and then catch the ferry across to Corfu. Technically it Greece anyway. The alternative was go inland around Albania which we didn't fancy. At the time for Albania it just said "motorcycles not allowed"!

Kawasaki Gpx750 one of the best bikes of its day. I was working at Nck in the 80’s an astonishing bike far better than the other 750’s at the time woefully undersold. Then the zxr750h1 ended up building our demo straight out of the crate, Pdi’d then when out and ran it in, first bike I did 150 on awesome tool, so much so I bought a brand new J1 in 1991. 21 yrs old thought I was a god. (Shame the zzr600 was as quick). I adore the 80’s not only because it was my era (into the 90’s) but we started with A/c twin shock 8 valves with spaghetti frames, stainless discs and ended with Ud forks alloy beam frames etc etc probably the most inventive period of design. And yet I still go back to my Lc. Yep,the GPX750 was a great bike, quite ignored over here. Do you remember the launch dragstrip video? It held some sort of proddie 1/4 mile record at the time. Still trying to track down a copy of it.

More people seemed to prefer the racer look at the time. I actually would have gone for the GPX myself.

The ZXR came out a year or two later, using basically the same engine.
It did steal the limelight for sure, even if it was a porker compared to the gixer 750 slabbies.
