That looks nice, I think this is a much better bet than the 400.
Will you go and look at it before the end? If this doesn't work out have you considered a 'slingshot' 750, they are still cheap?

I agree, a far better prospect, and actually "what you want". Seems the seller has done the right bits and bobs over the years, and the paintwork has been done by Mark so that will be a good thing Fingers crossed

Alex I suspect that this will go for a little more than the 400 however it is a desirable bike with a far bigger market for resale than the 400. So should you ever need to move it on I doubt you would struggle. You’ll get more enjoyment I suspect than a 400, the problem with small four strokes that I always found was I wanted more all the time. As mouse has said a slingshot or even an L or M is a better bike and generally cheaper and they are still proper Gsxr’s. And you’ve outbid everyone else you aren’t winning it 😁 Seriously fingers crossed 🤞

It is exactly what I want (apart from the colour but who cares really). If I need to sell it I won't lose money and the paintwork is done by the man so that's a huge bonus.

ps not winning...for now...

Was watching it went for £3758 good price for what it is. So DC are you the proud owner of a slabby?

I'm not but for a good reason. I shall explain...
At about 10ish last night I contacted the seller for his post code so I could arrange for collection and delivery. Had another bid and was winning. About half an hour later he contacts me bemoaning the price the bike was at and reckoned they are worth the same as an RG500. I was polite in my response. Even later he sends me another message with close up pics of the bike (that weren't on the eBay listing) and they showed paint chips and battle scars and all sorts of nasty stuff. He said the bike isn't mint at all, (not sure why he decided to share this info with me, had a few beers maybe) and let's face it he was saying it was sympathetically restored on the listing, so that implies a very very good bike. That floored me a bit and I was still bloody winning the bid. Nervous moments until I finally got outbid.
So...I bide my time and keep on looking. Yes they are rare but this is the model I want, not a slingshot. That or a Katana, and that's even more unlikely!

Still looking. This popped up. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/386790294783Vague description. Forks look scabby. Wrong colours (I know, picky picky) but an '85 bike so exactly what I want. Did a MOT check and not had one in ten years. So it rides well huh? Even so I contacted him and he says he'll MOT it. Begs the question why not MOT it first and then list it? Unless he knows a mate in a dodgy garage somewhere. Even so I am interested. Anyone live near him? I'd love to hear an honest description of this bike. Alex

Nantwich... Cheshire... I used to live near there and would have gone for a look for you mate, but a bit far from me now lol.
I will say it does look like it needs a bit of a tidy up. The bits you can see (like stand and forks) look to have been stored poorly, but the frame looks good.
Is that bodywork chinese I wonder? as its very tidy, apart from the damage.

I think it was a good spot by Andy. Personally you aren’t going to get better for your money. Minters are £6k, it’s a good solid basis for buying and a rolling restoration. Low ish miles 22’000 ish standard, bullet proof motors, I think you either need to spend more or lower your expectations. Think what kind of an Lc you’d get for similar money. I sold my last one that looked exactly the same 8 ish years ago for £2500, so not hugely expensive.

I'd swerve that one mate. As the lads have said, looks badly stored to me. Amazing what some tyre shine can do to "lift" the look ! Assume it hasn't been used in 10 years (always plan for worst case scenario, as with anything 2 stroke). If that is the case then you could have some expensive parts to change

It's deffo not been used in 10 years
If you do an mot check it's shows that since 2013 it's done 14 kms
Last v5 issues Nov 23 so looks like a winter tart up for someone
Don't get me wrong as veg says it is cheap for a slabbie but this one is for a resto project, not a buy and ride
Positives - it's all there and the frame is nice
Negatives - been lying a long time in not ideal location. Possible chinky bodywork (a positive if its newly painted genuine) and that engine needs to come out and repainted. Never mind the side stand, look closely at the motor

The way I see this, is Alex is on a budget, is he going to get better for his money? If this was an Lc in similar condition what would you say? I humbly disagree with Steve and Dusty. I don’t see them going down in value only up, they are getting harder to find in decent nick and I’d do a viewing at this price. Yes cosmetically it needs work, but it’s a low miles totally standard bike with all the original bits, the motors are unburstable, and as a project it’s got loads of potential. If it was a minter it would be 6-7k. Comparable bikes price wise are far far worse condition. However it’s your cash Alex but I honestly think if you want better you’ve got to seriously spend a fair bit more cash.

Alex Good value at that price and perhaps some haggle room to allow for refurbishment properly. It looks reasonable clean for its age and being stood for 10 years or so, you'll find allsorts to do on it if you buy it but in my view its worth very nearly the money being asked. If you can get £500 off its a bargain.

If it was an Lc for that money then I know I could rebuild it, and be fairly sure what the parts would cost me to do it. A 4 cylinder Gixxer engine is a totally different prospect in comparison. The "Oh Fec" Gixxer I bought at Kempton never ran right, and as I started to chase the issues it became very clear it was gonna cost a small fortune in parts alone. At the very least I would want to see that bike up close, have a test ride, and go over it with a fine tooth comb. I know Alex wants a bike to jump on and ride, but this, potentially, could be up on stands and getting stripped if it has stood unused for so long. Again, we all see these things differently of course, and that's fine, but if there is potential for this to become a project bike, cheap or not, it wouldn't be for me

I owned a very similar Japanese F model a few years ago. They don't fetch that much money unless nut and bolt perfect and collectors are really picky. Enjoyed it, but happy to pass it on. Tanks rust like nothing else and four carbs aren't much fun to strip. Lots of character and tough.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, I did the MOT check too! Not sure about this one. Going to wait and see what happens. It might get re-listed with a lower price or even a 99p start. Or it might sell...

This popped up the other day. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/276360890022Miles away. Non runner. I'm beginning to think I'll never find a bike I can just get on and ride. However I am watching it. And it's in my ideal colours. Alex

Love the colours on this and its a bit of a gamble, but I dont think it'd be that hard to throw some cash at and have it on the road by summer would it?
As always what you can get depends on budget... Im sure there are beautiful runners with MOT out there but not cheaply.
Realistically what would this sell for and how much would it cost to have it on the road? If it'll sell for 2k and take 2k to get it on the road and a runner is 4k... well...

Why do I get total bell ends selling gixxers? No MOT. However it did pass over a year ago. For reasons not explained he can't get a new MOT on it as the bike only has 10 days on the listing. Huh?? He tells me it will pass as there's nothing wrong with it...so go get it passed then!! Also claims a ton of interest in the bike but it's only been on eBay less than a day.
Puch Maxi, that's what I need...
