Hi all,
Tried a search on “chrome powdercoat” but was unusually unsuccessful?
Does anyone have any links to stuff they’ve had done? In particular swingarms?
Jon

Chrome PC is a two stage process, Nik's wheels were at least 3 coats.
The reason its two stage is that the chrome layer needs a clear on top.
Ive had good and bad experiences doing my own chrome PC. I found its great until you have a problem with the Chrome coat and you might not see it til the clear has gone on over it. that means getting it all off again.
The swinger may be problematical cos of the oil/grease thrown up onto it if its got into the alloy casting as if you dont get it out and off gas any residues then it can cause problems later.
Defo have a pro do it who knows what they are doing is my advice. Which I know you will Jon, but I do worry about the results with chrome after some of my failures.

Thanks for all the replies. Food for thought. I assume Yamaha (and others?) started painting their swingarms silver was to look like the anodised aluminium swingarms starting to surface? The YPVS is a case in point. They just look right to me. My swingarm is a mixture of cast and billet aluminium so they didn’t anodise it for the reason Jon mentioned above. The cast part has too many things added to help the casting that leach out during anodising.

Hi mouse, are you referring to aluminium polishing? If so my first LC hybrid has a polished arm. It’s a much easier shape to polish than the converted 3TJ arm I’m using. Plus it’s a real pain to keep shiney. Jon

The swingarm looks great ,what have you got clipping the brake hose at the back? I think I made a bracket/stay out of some tubing and a old old coat hanger, just flattened the end, it’s been under blankets and empty cardboard boxes for the last 6 years, if you need a better picture I’ll try and get one.

I had my Metmachex swingarm and footpeg hangers powder coated in chrome effect about five years ago. They don’t really look like chrome but do look like alloy that’s had a bit of a buff. As both were pitted it does look far better, and doesn’t need polishing up every time I use it.
