I picked up my freshly chromed brake pipe fork brackets. Had to take them back yesterday as they had zinc coated them instead of chrome plating. They re-did them over night and now they're all shiny again 😁

Bling a ring ding ding. lol I swear i can see my own face in your fork legs even though i am looking at them on the laptop. They've been chrome sprayed. It's a paint finish, but I think the process is very similar to how they make a mirror. It is possible to have a coloured finished as well. I just wanted them to look like they had been polished, but didn't want to have to keep buffing then up.

Started up my F2/N2 Italian job after a full rebuild.
It struggled to run at first due to some fuel restriction in the tap, but now runs sweet.
Took it for a brief test ride, all good!
Now to button it all up.

Been a busy couple of days. The Gray Ghost now has 25 tuning miles on the odometer and I am getting close on the jetting. I have changed pilots and needle clip positions and am still chasing a good take off and idle to 1/4 throttle. Today I went one lean on the needles and started with airscrews at 1.5. Didn't get a decent take off until I turned them in to 3/4 of a turn. 1/4 turn and up on the throttle and the carburetion is very good. The new brake rotors and bolts should be here tomorrow.

The majority of the bodywork is reinstalled. I learned that new grommets for the sidecovers makes all the difference in the world getting them on and off without damage to the plastic tabs. Yambits to the rescue. The right side cover has a partially missing aft tab which required a hole to be drilled near the tab and a cable tie installed. The front mount hole on RH side of the tank was cut off and installed in the wrong spot due to some previous buffonery. I used a short bungee cord knotted tightly to the forward mounting tab and hooked it to the improperly placed tank tab and the power-valve mounting bracket. I also installed a new speedo cable guide on the front fender and the missing gas tank hold-down hardware.

Next on the list is install the new brake rotors and replace two rivets on the RH chamber to stop the RH can from flopping around and pull the pipes off for paint and can polishing. I also have to do a temporary repair on the oil pump cover (hole in it from a previous wreck I think) and reinstall it. There are two mis-matched turn signals on the back one short and one long stem so the current plan is to take the two front ones mounted on the birdcage off and move them to the rear. That will enable me to reinstall the front fairing. 13 days to go and right down to the wire just like I swear it won't be every year.

4 days from the UK to my door for brake rotors and bolts and significantly cheaper than anything in the US. Yambits rocks.

Nice. Are they TSA spanneys. And what is the extra switch gear on l.h.s handlebar?

Dug out the old laptop I used to program the PC111 on the TLR(USB to Serial Adapter) and hooked it up to the Ignitech that Dave Mutts Nuts has supplied for the long stroke YPVS/4L1 hybrid project.
(Well, mostly Junior did, he`s an apprentice engineer at the same place as I work at and he did it in his lunch break).
Read the program, and after a bit of head scratching I THINK I know what base advance means and can set the rotor position up on the Vape Power Dynamo.
Need to get a set of pipes to match the porting , then there is slim chance the bike might actually be running this year.

Finished the rebuild at the weekend and finally took elsie out today, for a shakedown run and fill her up with fuel, as I drained the tank before the rebuild. I was only going to go a few miles, just to check all was OK, but was enjoying myself so much I ended up riding to box hill for lunch and had a great chat with some of the other people there. Riding an LC always seems to attract the crowds! Plus my face is aching from smiling so much! Just need to run the new pistons and rings in and I'll be back, ring dinging around the Surrey lanes and beyond 😁 IMG20230425135632 IMG20230425135317

Today was rotor day. Turns out the rotors Yambits sells for the RZ are drilled Ferodos. The left side came off pretty easy with a couple of good licks with my BFH and impact driver. I had to break out the heat gun for the ones on the right. Nice new bolts pre-treated with blue loctite and torqued to the recommended 14 foot pounds after all the holes were chased and the mounting surface was scrubbed with a wire brush. Took the y-boot off and put pods on to see if it helps the very loud 5K howl. Test ride tomorrow.

I have a small fuel seep on the RH carburetor float bowl. It doesn't leak when running but is wet after setting over night. I have new gaskets on the way from Niche Cycle and a spare carb body and float bowl coming as well.

Started up all of my running bikes. All good. The F1 with PWKs was the most grumbly and took a while with just one choke pulled. Plenty of smoke for the neighbors

I rode again today and it is pretty close to dialed in. The new Ferodo rotors are perfect and yes it does stop...I have yet to do a proper plug chop but will get to it either here or st the Gap. The pods eliminated most of the Ungodly 5000 RPM intake howl and the carburetion is now very good throughout the range. Jetting as follows: 280 main jets, 30 pilots, one lean on the needles and airscrews at 3/4 turn out. I took the front signals off of the birdcage while the weather strip adhesive on the freshly re-glued fairing and windshield trim dried. Then I mounted the fairing. Removing the front turnsignals caused the rears to illuminate but not flash due to a lack of load per M in SC so there will be no turnsignals this year, no more time to fool with it. Just waiting on a spare carb body courtesy of M in SC and some gaskets from Niche Cycle. I did a temp repair on the worn through oil pump cover which should be dry by tomorrow. Thanks to every one who helped. I couldn't have done it without you.

Great to see all this activity in the northern hemisphere as you head into the warmer, drier months. Lots of ideas and inspiration for me down under over autumn and winter.

"Spaniels Ears" front footrests (stolen from someone on here) fixed with two small shims made from some galvanised sheet by junior.
Bit of black paint needed now then a nice tidy repair. LH footrest hanger and gearchange to renovate, lights to tidy up, rolling chassis done. ( This bike had been stood outside for 4 years when I got it in 2005, everything pretty rotten . Got the frame painted then Kids, house ,other bikes etc slowed things up )
Itching to get the Mutts Long Stroke YPVS engine running, tempted to slot it into my other "Commuter" 350LC , but I know if I do that I`ll never get the other one finished.

I used to have a KMX 200 not so long ago. I have no car and you would be suprised what you can carry on a bike with a few bungees. I see car owners looking at me in amazement when leaving the shops or the offy saying to themselves how is he going to carry that. lol. They are great bikes. A good amount of poke for road use, even the odd motorway. But great in the woods too! I quite fancy one Look what i came across today my Brothers old KMX 200.

Went out for a ride in the sunshine today, did a tankful of fuel and stopped at Box Hill, where I met some mates for a tea and a chin wag. Today was a good day for riding round the lanes on a stroker, just a shame I'm running in a new top end. But the bike felt crisp and nothing split or fell off, which is promising. IMG20230429123038

Ohh exciting! I rallied a KMX125 for a bit, was a solid workhorse for trail riding for what was really a road bike and did ok in rallies as well, took a beating. The 200 would be much more fun as well. Id love one.
