Looks great! Bet it sounds lovely too. I am looking forward to getting it started up once I finish the pipes - plan to decoke them this week and get painted, once they are done its ready to start it up - I only ever heard it running very briefly back in 2021 after an initial carb clean up to see if it would run, which was all OK - ( bought it as a non runner ) - since then the engines been to muttsnuts for rebuild and carb service so I am itching myself hear it running again - hopefully couple of weeks and I be there -

First a coat of etch primer - then painted in satin black - was lucky enough to use facility at work to do the painting - again- I am no painter, but happy with the results -
Is it possible to get just the black bits powder coated? Mine are OK but thinking of getting this done next winter.

Yes, it's perfectly possible to powder coat parts, most stuff can be coated, paint just looks better on some parts than others, I'm happy to have a swing arm, centre stand, side stand and frame powder coated but prefer paint for everything else.

If you are talking about the wheels only ? - I would guess that the black sections could be powder coated, the masking of the bare alloy though would need to be done in heat resistant masking ?-( I think ?) it was hard job doing the masking , I imagine more difficult with the heat resistant tape that required for powder coat - although I am no expert -

FYI You only really need to mask so that the powder doesnt get on the parts you dont want powdered. you could remove the tape before the curing, but it wont be easy. You can also just remove the powder from areas you dont want coated prior etc. Ive done this with ear buds on raised coloured lettering on calipers etc. ie do the letter colour first, then overcoat with the body colour after wiping off the powder on the branding. I do this with master cyl lids, wiping off the 'yamaha'. Its fiddly tho and i doubt any pro coater will thank you for the job on a set of wheels, even if they used heat proof tape (which all PC'ers have) it'd be a pita of a job, plus the tape does sometimes peel off mid cure and can ruin the rest of the job. The joys...

Hi, Very nice job, what seem to be your problem with the tank?
Ive never had a bad result from deox c, could you have petrol residue that needs cleaning first as the deoxc only works on rust,Ive found that to clean the tank there is nothing better than acetone(nail varnish remover) its amazing how well it shifts even the toughest petrol residue.I buy the industrial stuff in litre bottles, cheap.a litre or two will clean any tank.
John.

John. The main problem is the fuel tap started leaking - so filled the tank up with Deox-C the first time only to see loads of leak out overnight - so then had to pump it all out ( these tanks hold a surprising amount of fluid ? ) - I just waiting to get a blanking plate made at work so I can seal it properly - can then give the Deox-C a proper chance to do its stuff - I have light surface rust inside the tank - I thinks its got a good chance of being OK - fingers crossed -

So latest job - decoke on exhausts - 10 day soak full of caustic soda - this is what came out of them - not very nice stuff.

Also - had a heat gun blowing through them for a good 20 mins each pipe - a very big stream of smoke/vapour burned out of each one - final result ready for paint -

Good job to get so much carbon out the pipes. I am so lucky I can put my pipes in a ultrasonic cleaner and after 8 hours they are really clean.

After a bit of a break, exhausts finished, painted, fitted etc - next job - bleed up the brakes - ask me how I know how effective brake fluid is as a paint stripper ?- As a result of rushing , and not preparing for the job properly - managed to get brake fluid all over the rear wheel - and its eat the paint - all that work that I put in on the wheels - ruined in a few daft minutes - brakes are still not done -as at that point I gave up , depressed and needing a beer - will go back to that job soon - then over winter - will redo the rear wheel again -

Then, a little day trip, lost a load of time trying to resolve a no spark problem, ( in a separate thread ) - booked a day with Dave up at muttsnuts to have Ignitech fitted and set up on the dyno - very rewarding and enjoyable day - hearing it run for the first time since stripping it down - was just awesome - fascinating day watching Dave do his stuff -

Wow such a lovely bike.
Such a pity about the wheel. I had a similar accident and just to tidy it up i sprayed a bit of the paint in the plastic cap of the spray can and then gently dabbed the ruined area with a small piece of foam soaked in the spray can paint.
It was supposed to be a temporary fix but the next day i had to look really hard to see the dammaged area os i left it like that.

Good to see it running Absolute nightmare with the wheel, it's why I hate brakes, such messy shit Steve Its why I left the brakes to almost the very last job - hate doing them - when I do go back to them, going to take way more time protecting everything so don't end up with this mess again - biggest mistake I made was rushing and trying to fit getting the brakes bled up between other stuff I was doing - never a good recipe- will treat the rear wheel as small winter project now - just gutted after how much time I spent on them - on a positive note - I learned a hard lesson, wont be making that mistake again -

Quick update, not had a chance to do much recently, life getting in the way etc , but this Sunday tackled the front brake bleed - I been putting this off for ages, having ruined the rear wheel paint on my first attempt on the rear calliper, this time I decided to take no chances- so went overkill on the protection

And - surprisingly good result - bleed up fine, overnight with the lever cable tied back - nice solid lever this morning - sods law - went to all that trouble of protecting as much as possible- and then never spilled a drop in the entire process - compared to when I did the rear calliper - with minimal protection, and managed to spray brake fluid everywhere , oh well - rather put the protection in place and not use it - big lesson learned.

It's good idea to have a bucket of water, a brush and a rag on stand-by just in case of a spillage. I thought one of the fluids is paint friendly? DOT 5? I have one of those brake bleeders that looks like a plant sprayer and connects to an airline. It basically uses compressed air to pull the fluid through. After trying for hours with the RGV and using every trick in the book I bought the pneumatic one and it did it in about 30 seconds per side. Used it on the SR125 and did the same. I didn't even bother with the jam jar & pipe set up, just right in there with the compressed air one. Well worth the £20 or so I paid for it. Oh and the bike looks superb BTW . Just like mine from 1985 except mine had a black nose cone and mudguard after a crash and was covered in dents and scrapes
