Suppose some of you will be on some of the Lc Facebook groups.Really have to bite my tongue sometimes. Loads of people blowing smoke up peoples arses who are turning out really shite rushed restos and charging for them. One been posted posted recently "Oh just finished this owner delighted" And all the wee sycophants going my god thats amazing, beautiful work, you really love Lc`s and saving them, another one saved etc etc
And all i see is a rusty swinging arm bolt head(like really sticks out),the front wheel spindle in from the wrong side and allen bolts
Really winds me up for some reason, must have been turning 50 last year

Facebook... more like Arsebook as it seems stuffed with ringpieces.
I like to observe it...bit like watching the chimps at Chester zoo but much more uncivilised, (the shit slinging is very much the same) and wondering where the human race went wrong....

Facebook is 40% good guys, and 60% bellends I reckon. Too many keyboard warriors to make it great unfortunately. Useful for some things, but this forum be always be far, far superior, thankfully Dusty

last year i had a digital detox for 6 months which was really refreshing but had to go back on fb to follow a certain group about a failed investment that i had done. Anyway , it was the same people moaning about the same stuff when i went back on and it really is full of bell ends. i really should come back off it again as i know how addictive it becomes watching all the fb experts chunnering about subjects they know nothing about. This forum is far better than anything on fb that is lc related for sure.

Thats what Im trying to say Dusty, But if i was to say โpity about the rusty swing arm boltโ would it make me a keyboard warrior or one the 60%? I enjoy Facebook, and have a great laugh with my mates and keep in contact with friends all over the world, I was talking about one small part of it.

I use Facebook for the same reasons - keeping in touch with friends I wouldn't see or hear from otherwise, and obviously some bike groups. All the pics in the Facebook thread on this forum are pulled from various sources on there. My definition of keyboard warrior is someone who comments in such a way as to cause deliberate offence, rather than constructive help/advice, knowing full well there is no real price to pay. If they said the same things to strangers in a pub, they would lose teeth probably !! My mantra is, if I dont like it, I just dont comment, rather than be a t**t and deliberately offend someone. It could be a fantastic resource if only it wasn't populated by trolls and morons ! Dusty

Lol Fb... its frustrating at best to read the group posts. I can live with the ego stroking (even of idiots) but the wrong answering of technical stuff worries me greatly.
ie. Rather than use Google and search the whole internet a guy asks a question in a group, like 'what should my squish be set to?'. The group has 600 people on it, but only about 4 guys post on every submission and about 10 more 'react' with random emoticons. One of those 4 posters answers with a non committal answer like 'I think the squish should be 0.1mm on yours, its 3mm as standard on most bikes.'. The other 4 guys all say 'you the man mr responder', 'you sure know about these bikes etc'. Guy thanks them and life moves on slowly. 2 weeks later someone asks a similar question and the first guy from our original story thinks 'hey i know this one!' so excitedly answers '0.1mm always! get it done!'... And facts are 'born'.
I use Fb like Dusty, ie just to talk to people who will not use anything else. But I hate the fact fb thinks it should track my whole internet use and many times ive considered ditching it. One day i will.
What I just dont understand is why people would rather ask the 4 blokes who will eventually respond on a fb group a question when google will show you immediate links to answers on a forum where the info is stored, verified and tested by real experts. I can only assume that the issue is that Fbers are people who fear the creation of searches on google and cant (wont) use a photo hoster. Can there really be people who think that fb *is* the internet?
What is very interesting is that there has become such a divide between the forums and fb groups with hardly any cross over.

Facebook can be great and equally poor i suppose its how we use it to our benefit and leave the shite where it belongs. Bry

I've said it before, I don't do Facebook but my wife does
Obviously when you install Facebook it disables Google
Why else would you put a post up asking when the local shop shuts or what's the number for Dominos and wait for someone to answer
Amazingly type it in Google and get it instantly and actually from the source website.
Not what somebody "thinks" is the answer
Or just keep asking the question that's been asked a million times rather than looking for it
My wife is a member of a Facebook group for the holiday park we are on
"What's the best WiFi router and who does the best 4g?"
Half a dozen answers get posted giving roughly the same answer.
3 days later - "I see you were talking about WiFi, what's best?"
A little while later - What 4g supplier you guys using?"
It goes on and on ๐

Like fletch I need a โdigital detoxโ from FB. I donโt go on there much, but every second I do spend on there is a wasted second of my life ! Problem is Itโs addictively aggravating....like an itchy scab, want to but canโt leave it alone ! If it was as easy as scroll by I would ! But Iโm stuck between the attraction of ghoulish entertainment and the elevation in blood pressure that it brings!

I haven't been using FB since this time last year, it was just eating into my time too much.. It's very easy to get drawn into what other people are doing and not doing anything for your self... ie, someone pops up a pic of a plate of food in some restaurant or a glass of something nice on a Friday evening.. Oh, I wish it was me but I'm on call this week.. and then there is the "feeling sad.." status and the reply, "What's wrong? Hon..? usually from some attention seeking women so scroll on down some more to see what's going on in your groups.. "What's the best fork oil..?" other questions may be available.. and then there is the clickbait.. " check out this actress who was in a film in 1980.." " do this for a month and all your dreams come true.."
Anyway, I think i'm rambling now so I'll fek orf and watch a cat video...

Due to a previous job I don't indulge in Facebook, but I used it for my work and a very valuable resource it was in that situation. From what I hear/see it sounds just like messages I send at work or read on line. No one bothers to read and inwardly digest what they see in front of them. I was in an online training course yesterday and the Q&A was full of either 1. the same damn questions asked over and over, or 2. questions that if you looked at the screen in front of you, would be answered. I remember someone saying many years ago "never underestimate the ignorance of the average person" and Facebook and the like seem to be full of 'average people' ๐

Iโm not on Facebook, and never have been (which is why the likes of dusty is adding to this forum with his daily bike pix post). Nor Twitter or any other social media thing Iโm not aware about. Nor will I ever be. I decided very early on from listening to mates that were, what an absolute waste of time it was reading and conversing with idiots posting meaningless sh1te about themselves or commenting on one thing they knew nothing about just to have their โsayโ. While this forum could possibly be described as social media it is in the main populated by very helpful and giving people. I think the thing is we all have something in common, our love of RDโs. Which probably helps the general decorum? IMO there is too much difference of opinion on other platforms that leads to disagreement. Jon

I remember someone saying many years ago "never underestimate the ignorance of the average person" and Facebook and the like seem to be full of 'average people' ๐ That's the thing though, there are all walks of life on there, so you just have to sort the wheat from the chaff. You've got everyone from multi-millionaire high flying company owners to a fat bloke in camo trousers on the dole still whining about Thatcher. My feed is just mainly bike groups, with some family and friends. If I'd spent a lot of time building a bike and someone offered honest tips then I'd be grateful, there are some nice and helpful people on the LC groups, but if someone just wanted to pick fault because a bolt wasn't passivated to exactly the right colour then they'd get the same response as in real life, i.e. jog on.
