my digital detox got as far as me only using the laptop to do banking online and i bought a nokia flip phone ! its actually a newish model but the screen is so small that you cant browse anything , you could literally call and text. i think im close to getting it out again The internet and social media is a game changer and has its place but you have to know when its time to step back

I will say, as heaps of bike forums have died due to FB, this one is going stronger than ever.
Bravo, fine Sirs!

I used to peruse it mainly for the good deals that pop up now n then. Gave up trying to help & all the experts crash tackle the life out of you.....even when i gave the wrong info (by mistake 😄 ) i was still told i was wrong lol... But lately, even trying to find those "good deals" lately just aren't worth the drama & bs.

When I first got a PC, many many moons ago a mate suggested farcebook to me, great to keep in touch, share photos etc. So I joined. For one day. I got a load of ex school 'mates' wanting to catch up with me, and truth be told if I ever met any of them I'd just want to punch them in the face. Repeatedly. Never been back, and a wise move I reckon! Also, if I want to send someone pictures and tell them what's been going on, what the hell is wrong with an email?

So today someone asked if they could fit Micron end cans to standard 4LO exhausts,No not F2 exhausts, 4LO ones Silly question you may think, and it is ..... but he was a self confessed new owner, with no history or knowledge of these bikes, and the pile on of ridicule he received was not called for . He wasn't a self proclaimed LC expert spouting shit ..... just someone wanting help, and didn't get any. Facebook is really a cesspit.

It's easy to point fingers but none of us knew anything until we asked questions.
I've just built a 1930's four stroke engine with an open cylinder head and I had to ask a lot of questions, I expect some people thought I was asking some silly ones, but if you don't know the answer then you have to ask.

Does seem harsh. You can do anything if you have a welder and time. I'd never considered doing it, or how you'd make it work, but you could certainly weld end cans on to look like allspeeds etc.
The problem of fb is its all 'asking questions', there is very little 'looking up' of answers. Fb is like google but drawing on the knowledge of <10 people who know a bit about each subject.

Seen legit experts with long documented success ran off FB groups and forums by knowitalls. Like any resource, it's up to the user to make the best use of it.

Don't forget, not everyone is tech savvy, and sometimes it's more straightforward and easier for someone to ask a question, than go hunting for answers in a tech world they don't understand. And if it's Faceache they find first, then they wont likely know the potential pitfalls. It's not Faceache that's the problem, it's all the keyboard warriors that feel it's a vent for their twisted sense of humour, or just plain nasty side to come out. As said elsewhere, treat it like a pub with face to face discussion - if you spout the same shite you'll likely lose teeth ! It's all about good old fashioned manners in my book - something many seem to lack nowadays And we forget how lucky we are having such a great forum. Not every bike has such a following or useful resource to support the owner. Dusty

Exactly Dusty, Ive posted about the pub parallels a lot as I really see that as how they are.
I still think a modicum of having a look first goes a long way, some people ask a question that is answered literally a few posts down the same sub forum. That's just lazy. It does seem that once you get into a culture of just asking for stuff and being rewarded you almost never help yourself again.

Also, Facebook is a very short term media, by that I mean things move fast, I've seen a post on a certain page,, then looked for it again a few mins later, and can i find it? Not a chance . We have a very good search engine here, and by and large, when anyone new joins, and is welcomed, its mentioned "to use the search function ",therefore hoping to negate the often asked questions. As dusty said, we are lucky, as a niche group, centered around a few bikes, to have a very busy forum, any others I've used have all but gone now.

Treat it like a pub? Well in a pub you soon sus out whether someone is intelligent enough to recognise a joke, a piss take, banter , but above all ..humour! But on faceache, it seems most take immediate offence. Never confuse ignorance with abject stupidity, some questions, you could not dream up, especially with GOOGLE the biggest source of info at your fingertips!! (savvy enough to use faceache/savvy enough to use google)
Oh... does it hurt if I nail my testicles to a shed floor? tia.
Don't think most faceachers go to pubs... just darkened rooms and diets of nicknacks and furious self abuse... (wanking)...google it.....

I did see that one and some of the replies were definitely out of order, as you said the guy was an obvious new owner I have posted myself on the LC club Facebook though and received good help the same as I’ve had on here I think if it’s obvious you’re trying to sort something out that you have tried but can’t figure out most people are decent and will try to help I’m not the quickest when trying to work out what’s wrong but sometimes it just needs someone to suggest something to point me in the right direction

Nicknacks are truly awful... seriously, you need to choose another snack packet. I advise you not to use one that has chilli powder in its ingredients....with obvious consequences....You could be struck blind in your japs eye. There you have it. Forums are the best place for good, common sense advice.

If you have an issue with your bike and would like a long rambling list of possible causes ranging from the impossible, the inlet valve on your 4L0 has burnt out to the stock answers, crank seals, float hight etc. with, shit in your carbs in between, then Facebook is the place to ask. All those for a juddering front brake as well, sorry break. It's just entertainment. In the old days people used to pay to watch nutters in the nut house. We have Facebook.

IMO Facebook is a poor Joke.. I found FB market place seductive.. Until it tried to 'buy' something off 'n it. Don't.. is what I quickly discovered . Doesn't stop twits from habitually using it though
