Normally I do 15-20,000 miles per year in my car and the wife does 10,000 in the family motor. Obviously with lock down that’s fallen dramatically we are even thinking of dumping my car or replacing it with a cheaper one as I reckon we are never likely to go back to needing them like we did.

I usually do somewhere between 30 and 40k
The Mrs only 4k (works 3 miles away)
Think I've done 3k since lockdown. Worked from home in March, furloughed in April till October.
Worked 4 weeks of light work then put on flexi furlough. Only work a day if a customer calls me with a breakdown only I can do (1 day a week so far)
Now the Wife's car has done 200 miles in 12 months
Before lockdown she had a seizure so lost her license for a year. I was running her to work before lockdown and then she worked from home ever since.
No sign of her going back. They were building a new office which is now delayed. The new location didn't work for us so she was supposed to be out of a job in a few months as they said the job could not be done from home when she asked.
Well the office is delayed as the site shut down and she has been working perfectly well from home. Hopefully they can't argue it can't be done now.
So in answer to your question yes one of our cars is an ornament. No choice with mine as a company car which is out of lease (I'd already got it extended 1 year to 4) and as our company was in the middle of changing the car policy before this crap started and done nothing since so I can't order a new one
While sitting not really being used the Wife's car broke a spring and the rear brakes started binding. Then to make matters worse the battery went t1ts up when I started using it again. Given that it had start/stop it was expensive 😖

Oh Dear, well at least she's shown she can do it at home so they can't argue. Im seriously considering keeping the family motor and dumping mine or maybe buying a little classic run around as if we ever do need 2 its only going to be for small journeys.

Like Steve, I do a fair few miles a year .
After being laid off in July this year, I started working for another manufacturer in a similar line of work as previous , because so many of the larger companies have been furloughed for a long time or are still on furlough, there has been a huge uptake of business for the smaller/medium size outfits, like us, to scoop up the demand thats out there, so it looks like covid will see me spending more time in the car for a while yet, im doing nearly 1000 miles a week at the moment.

A car?? What use is one of them things? Cant get a bike in the back (easily, without pulling something.. a leg perhaps) Done just over a 1k miles with the van since this time last year... a lot of that just visiting hives once a week. Would usually be 2k miles ish. (Van's 5yr old and 11k on the clock.)
If it carries on (this shit show for idiots) no one will need a car.. Is the the plan/conspiracy? Are we real or a computer program? Does anyone give a flying one? Or is it natural selection showing us the way on how to destroy ourselves....
Seriously though, if your mileage has come right down, and you are still doing the same work, why not have something like a Bentley? You can spend 25k on an ordinary shitter of 4 wheeled box, and if you aint trailing up and down a motorway day in day out... go out with your partner at the week end in a bit of luxury.

Work as normal, so that mileage hasn't changed. Not really used it otherwise, as initially when the covid crisis hit, social travel was frowned upon, also that hit running the LC and my toy car.
So I think between MOT's my mini did 3k instead of 5, LC has done zero, and my Tvr has done 300.
Pretty shit really.

.. a lot of that just visiting hives once a week. You a beekeeper as well steve? Anyway, it’s the same over here. We’ve a newer Mazda CX-5 and an old Gen2 Prius. I drive the P for work as I clock a lot of miles. The wife’s Mazda been mostly sitting for the past 8mos, so we are planning on trading it in on a newer RAV4 Hybrid for me, and let the old Prius sit and moulder away instead. I’m working in the field as much as ever, as the real estate market here has shown no sign of slowing, despite the state of things.

I tend to use my motorbikes more than my car, but it does depend on the circumstances. I generally work away from home so normally transport is taxi, hire car and company car.
When home i use the car mostly for transporting things or if I go somewhere with someone else. The rest is on the bike.
Due to my work I've owned the same car for roughly 30 years and this year it's been a bit unreliable. Beginning of the year the clutch master cylinder needed to be replaced after leaking for about 4 years. It was last replaced by me in 1993, the clutch fork died in September this was fitted new in 1998. The last problem was suspected cylinder head leak but this turned out to be the header tank.
I would say I do about 4000 to 6000km a year unless I go on holiday.
It even won a best car award on a rally from Holland to southern Italy. I knew one of the other competitor's and he said it something to do with the two young ladies driving it.

Yes, we've got 7 hives going into winter, no bees have been furloughed.. in fact , they have done very well during the covid scare. Must be all that furlough money spent on gardens actually doing some good for pollinators. Heard the same about the housing "market" here..... Is it folks looking for an extra room whilst working from home??

I think it's a shame that some of you are talking about getting rid of a vehicle over this,....like governments haven't imposed more than enough restrictions and changed our lives for the worse. Personally, I've probably done more mileage this year,......sorry but I'm not being dictated to by these clowns especially when they come out with rules that make zero sense,.....like exercise only once a day in the first lockdown, if you are in a remote area and don't see another person period, I'll go out as many times as I want thanks.

Oh don't worry, I haven't let any government dictate to me how much I can or cant use my vehicles. I am making up for it by burning at least one car tyre a week in the back garden to release some carbon that would of normally been done by my van. I would love to live in a rural area with no people around.... so would my neighbours, as I invariably set fire to said tyres when the cnuts have their washing on the line.....

In the 6 months between services on my main car I did... {drumroll}... under 1500kms. Thats 900ish miles.
We do live in a busy city, but we worked from home and walked every evening and in doing so rediscovered the local shops. Mileage has gone up now but Ive never needed 2 cars really, I just like them lol

F*ck off 😤 Just something about certain 70's cars gets me. Think in the 80's I was all about bikes although my mates all has escort RS's and Granada 2.8 Ghia's. Then it was 3 series beemers Did love my 80's Cavalier SRI and XR3i though A mate just picked up a Vauxhall Firenza Sport back 🙃 Steve

Back in the day I did know of a guy who owned one of those Renault 5 turbo's, I remember that he had the little electric fan near the turbo in the engine bay go, he moaned that the price for that on it's own were around the £100 mark. Don't sound like much now? I guess it were back then.

I reckon the 80s and 90s stuff interests me way more than the earlier stuff. The 70s had a lot to offer and the 60s stuff was often better styled, but for modern roads its hard to drive these older cars and not be in the way or fear you will die amongst the huge trucks. Well certainly round here. I had a Caterham for years and could have driven under the doubles (trucks) on the roads by my house, freaky as you know those drivers dont see you and wont even feel running over a Seven. At least i had the power to get away from them, but wow do you feel small...
So for me the turbo era interests me as those cars have safety and are bigger, but really its the powerbands, like the bikes we grew up on.

Amazingly I have 2 cars. Sorta. The love of my life, the monster truck Suzuki let me down for the nth time a year ago and has been parked up outside the workshop. I so want to get her on the road again (and MOT and tax free next year) but no time and no funds really to do it. There is a total shed of an LJ80 (my car) on eBay for £3k at the moment so mine must be worth double that. forum.suzukiclubuk.co.uk/download/file.php?id=20713&t=1So when the zook went off the road I bought a Yaris for £400. All went well until the MOT in September. Cost me £500 to get her through. Then another £70 on 2 tyres, another £100 on a bloody battery and now £360 on a clutch. Then the alternator started whining like a bugger...£86. Goodbye LC savings. But I need a car every day to go care for my mum, and I can't get a weeks worth of shopping for her and me on the back of a Mito! Alex

That A28 is a t**t of a road... never ceases to amaze me the B doubles on there in proximity to all the regular traffic. Be a godsend when they finish the tunnel. I don't mind the 60 and 70 stuff, my project car at the moment is a 62 Aussie built Morris Oxford Station wagon. But I must confess, I'd have a Renault 5GT turbo above most things.

Yes mate, just off Pennant Hills Road so we use it most journeys sadly. Funny you mention the new tunnel, its in and operating now. Wahoo! Its defo better without so many trucks and people passing though on their way north and south. Locals can breathe a sigh of relief again... literally without the fumes! www.northconnex.com.au/
