Changes are it is fecked but you never know
Usually caused by the mechanism failing
The Speedo head spins a magnet which sits inside a dome section which is attached to the needle on a bearing
If the bearing grease dries out it can stick. This can be sorted by lube
The Speedo head bearing goes dry and starts the squeal of death. Bearing fails, magnet contacts the dome and starts needle flailing everywhere and either the needle is sitting at 90 because the dome is still in contact with the magnet or the spiral spring has broke or mangled - it's then fecked.
The dome has moved out of place and contacted the magnet then see above for out come. I've had one that I re aligned the dome then put a blob of glue where it join the needle and it worked but I dislodged the dome while changing the face so no spring damage
The good news is that despite it being possibly fecked it has a mph speedo.
Even thought it is broken it has a mph face and more importantly the 2 gear shafts that drive the distance in miles
At worst you buy a km Speedo, swap the 2 gears and the face and it will now show speed and distance in miles.

I’m thinking I need to clean and lube the Rev counter on my 350 as it revs to 2-3000 and no more, how do the clocks come apart? thanks, Nick

I now have them out but don’t want to force anything - is it possible to open them up to clean and lubricate? Thanks

I’ve had clocks that whine loudly but none that wouldn’t perform normally despite the racket they make

A small flat head screwdriver is needed to just lift the lip of the bezel. You'll need to go all around the rim and it will pop off. When I put it back together I use a pair of pliers and a cloth so the metal of the clock rim doesn't get damaged.
