Don’t kid yourself Steve about not stripping it. The first step to recovery is admitting you’ve got a problem Jon Oh I know I have a problem In the garage just now: 1 x 3hm1 now in bits, frame to be coated. Swinger and wheel already coated 1 x 31k frame/forks/wheels. Swinger at coaters, engine ready to build 1 x 31k frame at the coaters with the wheels. Forks and swinger ready to fit, engine ready to build That along with my hybrid needing recommisioning means I REALLY need help Steve You're amongst friends Steve. Embrace the craziness....

Inevitable........... you can’t help it, so what colour is the frame going to be? It's going gunmetal or titanium as my coaters call it. As long as I can control myself as I have a hybrid back and front end with the wheels in the same colour 😬 Steve

Nothing much to report, still no fork legs so can't get it on its wheels. The frame and swinger are coated now. Got a bit of zincing done while it was in bits. Not an anorak build but would be rude not to get them done while waiting on other things Fitted new dogleg bushes and seals as they were toast. Refitted the h link as was other than a lick of paint and seems to have no play - woo hoo! The original shock will do for now. Looks to be not leaking. Strangely it's not the 1ua shock on it but a 1XG so must have been superseded. Steve

I think you need to rename the thread!

I like the colour of the chassis Steve I only did it this colour as the bodywork is going black and that colour scheme uses a gunmetal frame but I must admit I like it a lot. It has a nice metallic in it. Steve

I think you need to rename the thread! Lol 😂 No I'm not renaming it, the frame is not a reflection of the rest of the build. It was only done as it really needed it. The forks and suspension are only getting serviced as I can't mot it if they are shagged. The brakes are going back on with no more attention than new pads up front as the fork oil was all over them. Even the engine is going back in with just a bit of a touch up. It needs the clutch case repainted and I have a powdercoated one to go on it but I'll get it running first and see how the clutch is ok before changing it over. Well that's the plan 🙄 Steve

Spitting feathers 🤬🤬🤬
Called the fork chromers on Friday. They said 3 - 4 weeks, it had been 6. Said they would check and get back
They called back yesterday and I had a barney on the phone with them.
They said they arrived with no note so have been sitting on a shelf with nothing done waiting for them to get claimed.
I'm fuming and adamant I enclosed a note.
Back to square one 😡

This little Jap f*cker is doing my tits in 😖
Engine back in frame so decided I'd move changing the clutch cover forward as got an arrow refurbed pump to go on too
Dropped the oil before taking the cover off
FRIGGIN stuff is as thin as p1ss and sure it stinks of fuel
The bloody thing seemed to run fine, time for a leak down test methinks 🤔
Took the clutch case off and nothing disastrous inside
Was surprised with this being an 88 ypvs to find that the clutch basket doesn't have the o ring between the gear and basket like a 250lc

Well just did a leak down test
Nothing catastrophic but yep it's leaking air
Spraying soapy water everywhere
Inlets - no
Pv's - no
Base gaskets - no
Crank seals - no
Primary gear - Ahh! Blowing bubbles from between the primary gear and oil gear
Phew!

Nah, just couldn't do it. Like to know what's inside so engine out and stripped the other night The milometer seems to be telling the truth (6700miles) as standard bore and most of the home marks are still visible although polished out on the inlet side so lubrication maybe poor or more likely way rich. Got an arrow built pump to go on anyway. Few strange anomalies First - 3 head bolts let a jet of high pressure petrol fly out. Never seen that before. Head did not need tapping to release so assume the gasket wasn't doing the best job Second - head looks skimmed. It Stoll has a lip at the edge of the dome and not flush at the underneath of the thermostat area but looks too clean even out with the gasket covered area and machine marks very visible with no previous gasket face cleaning mark. May be a mod to up compression to go with the tzr race pipes. Third - motor has been open before and crank seals very supple so assume they have been previously changed but I'd split the cases specifically to change them so new gen seals fitted. Replacing them all while it's in bits Fourth - pulled the circlip out the lh piston and the cast on the ridge broke off so glad I decided to pull them out Fifth - initially thought I'd wasted my time splitting the cases as seals seemed fine but was glad I did as when cleaning the old sealant off the crank cases I found the best thing that took it clean off was PETROL 🙄 Also my thought on it passing fuel into the crank cases which then made it into the gearbox was confirmed by this pic. Now remember this had been started by me before stripping Steve

Rechromed fork stanchions we're waiting for me when I got home last night so cleaned up the lowers a bit and polished the bars while I had the buffer out. Also touched up the top case edge where the paint had come off. Now all baking in the sun Steve

Forks, top yoke and bars fitted temporarily to get the forks sticking through the right length. 60mm above top yoke - Jeez 😳 Need to take them off now to fit the clock/headlight bracket Steve

Just as well you split it, that would have had you spitting more than feathers after a failed run, saved a fortune in the long run. Looking good by the way. 👍

I am sorry but i dont see that in your picture. There are enough ridges to give unwanted operation of the clutch.

Piston arrived but no rings yet🙁 But the head gasket did arrive from Yam😀 Painter called to say he'd done the base coat and flattened back so it's decal o'clock 😁 I'll drop it back off tomorrow for clear coat. Decided not to do the two tone paint and do black only Steve

Also sorted a Speedo for it Always difficult on the import bikes as they are black faced with white writing and a tapered white needle so not like any other ypvs and the fzr ones don't fit Managed to find a USA fzr 400 Speedo. It's only got 1000 miles more than the rz has done so I'll leave it as is. I did change the bezel as it had a dink. Steve
