Clocks stripped, mph Speedo fitted and new top plate. Fitted to bike. Note the different style clock brackets on the 3hm1 compared to the n style Black tacho face is a bit faded but don't have much option. I do have an identical looking one but it's off an import tzr so uses the pv controller signal 3hm1 doesn't have a separate pv controller so it is triggered from the coil like a 4t but 2 pulses per revolution Steve

Little update Been catching little bits of time here and there. Gen piston to replace the one I damaged and gen rings for both sides. Would be rude not to do both Decided to use a pair of gen base gaskets I had put aside for another engine. Steve

And finally clutch case fitted. I used a case I had powdered ages ago but I could feel it rough on the water joint so I've given it a thin smear of silicone to be sure Steve

Nice work all that Steve. I finally felt well enough and started building up my basket case 3HM1 this week, it won't be completely standard or as beautiful a job as you're doing, but I'm interested to see what it turns out like. You say you don't like the standard small square indicators? I quite do, but a couple of mine are a bit secondhand, do you want to flog me any you've got if you don't want them?

Glad your feeling a little better Don't know about "won't be as good" lol. I keep saying it's not a resto ð If bits ain't broke on mine, I ain't fixing them. The calipers could do with a repaint but they ain't getting it unless they need stripping. They worked before the strip down but time will tell. The indicator preference is just because I'm used to seeing the f2/n2 type and as the 3hm1 isn't known here the indicators aren't recognisable. It's like the mirrors. The JDM bikes all had the rectangular mirrors. I've bought a new set to put on my 31k hybrid as it has jap paint but people will say they are wrong. My bike didn't come with original indicators so it was going to be a lot of money to get the JDM ones. Also the separate earth leads (if you can find them) are ÂĢ10 each Was going to be around ÂĢ150 at the time for a full new set. Got a set of really nice used f2 for ÂĢ30 The JDM ones are still available. Even Fowlers had them. Also cheap Chinese copies on eBay (fzr 250) for ÂĢ6 a pair Steve

Noted on the indicators and interesting what you say about the separate earth leads, when I dismantled them (for cleaning and painting of the brackets.....) I thought it was an odd set-up, anyway, ordered a set of FZR250 replicas from China so I'll see how they look. Might need to pick your brains in getting her registered, it's been in the Country for 10 years, but imported on the old system so I have a CE389 document rather than the NOVA thing.

Time to sort the carbs. Wondered why the fuel inlet spigot were so big (10mm) but it turns out they have little gauze filters in them. Surprisingly very clean inside so just blew through with carb cleaner, fitted new needles, seats and o-rings although the old ones were still soft and pliable. Main jets were another story. Everything I find says they were 155 standard. Bike had pod filters and tzr expansion chambers and they are either 150 or 160, can't tell even with me specs on ð Now fitted 170's and using airbox but keeping the spannies. People moan about the linked carbs but I'll tell you, they are a fiddle to balance. 2 drill bits the same size, open the throttle and pop the drill under one slide. Then turn the adjuster till the other drill fits snugly, job done Steve

Took that weird chrome wanky thing off the kickstart and noticed it looked smaller than a normal 29l one. It's marked 10X which looks like rd80lc Steve

Strange them carbs Steve, never seen linked ones on a two stroke. Think most of the 250's had them Think the US 350's had them too Think it's to do with the push/pull throttle cable so you aren't relying on the spring closing them Look identical otherwise Ain't looking forward to fitting them though ð Think I'm losing a few knuckles They are marked 3hm so bike specific too Steve

US rules state (or at least used to) that you need a mechanical closure on throttles, not just a spring, hence push/pull cables.

Switchgear tart up time Made the mistake of stripping a spare set of f2 bodies, having them blasted and painted before realising the RH lower body is different due to the 2 throttle cables and the strip down pictures of the LH one were a bit useless as the indicator switch is different due to it not having a self cancel Anyway, LH done, I'll tackle the right in a couple of hours to give the paint a little more dry time as only done the correct lower body this morning Steve

Starting to tackle the front brakes Not 100% sure whether to stick with the originals as they are working other than needing new pads but ideally they need stripped and repainted but I need this together for an mot asap. Master cylinder was another story. Working but cosmetically challenged and the mirror mount was broken off. In to the spare brakes box and an fz07 brembo master looks to be ideal Steve
