Does this make the clutch rattle when they are worn as my basket is not worn where the plates go.

Does this make the clutch rattle when they are worn as my basket is not worn where the plates go. If you hold the back of the clutch in one hand - the one with the drive gear - then hold the front part with the 'tangs' with your other hand and try twisting them can you see or feel any movement between the two? There are four rubber dampers between the two parts of the clutch drum that can wear over time, and to replace them you drill out the four rivets holding the two halves together. Stusco posted a question about the rivets here: rdlccrazy.proboards.com/thread/44513/clutch-dampers

Yama designed the Main gear and clutch to have 4 to 6mm of rotational play. Yama San fitted two sizes of Rubber bungs to achieve this play. Yes they can (rarely tho) deteriorate. In which case the play is excessive. Measure it..First. Replacement /aftermarket bungs are Nowhere near as durable as the oems though.. Caveat Emptor. That said: Seriously unlikely the bike will be around another 30 years ..either :-) Main brass bushing is often the rattly clutch Noise source... Check it

Check it Bare, I’ve seen that the original rubbers were 2 different sizes. Didn’t take a photo though so can’t remeber if the larger ones are the drive side? Can you remember? Jon

I have to go through the same process in the next few weeks but to replace a damaged basket, not because of wear... One of the engines I am about to use arrived with two of the 'tangs' missing..... God knows what force they used and in what direction to break them..!!
