Cheers Mark Fitted the top end this evening; 20190615_215711 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20190615_215732 by dusty miller, on Flickr New Yam head and base gaskets, and a new thermostat as this engine didn't have one fitted when I got it. I would have fitted the inlets, but the VForce gaskets are bright green and a bit too obvious, so although I have one pair of Yam inlet gaskets, I will order another 2 on Monday. The bracket for the lights arrived this morning; 20190615_215800 by dusty miller, on Flickr I bought it so I could work out sizing and how it would fit in the front plate, if I do decide to go with them. The actual lenses are smaller than the holes in the bracket - the shroud around each lens fits the hole. The lens themselves are just a tad bigger than a £2 coin, at 40mm. On light acts as dip beam, the other as main beam. Next week I will fit the inlets and do a pressure test. Then I can fit the Power Dynamo generator and get the engine in the frame. Then build up the water and oil pump parts into the side case. Plenty still to do Dusty

Thanks Wasn't sure about the silver head as well as the barrels, but the polished parts and the red logo on the head breaks it up a bit I think, plus red hoses help. My other Pv engine in the Lc hybrid has silver barrels and satin black cylinder head, and just wanted this a bit different. Top marks to the Hycote engine enamel though. It was still soft when I decided to remove it, and it was admirably stubborn against petrol and a decent brush - if I'd left it till morning it would have been a nightmare to get off. It truly is petrol proof Dusty

The second pair of Yam inlet gaskets arrived today, so I could fit the billet inlets; 20190618_215538 by dusty miller, on Flickr And a good coat of 3bond used. Inlets are often the site of air leaks when a pressure test is done, so everything had a smear of the grey goo ! I will do a pressure test in the next couple of days. I can fit the generator, but will lap the rotor onto the crankshaft first. Need to get a stator wiring grommet from Norbo too. I built the water and oil pumps into the side case tonight; 20190618_215518 by dusty miller, on Flickr Pump will go off to Arrow for a rebuild, to be safe. And I dropped my left side casing off to Jamie for powdercoating today - will pick up next week. He is gonna be famous - they have got "Salvage Hunters" being filmed in his unit, so I better get some bits to him before he gets famous and his prices go up !! Dusty

Hi Alex The glass is reflecting the radiator on the wall ! Forgot to add, I visited a local hose and fittings place to try and get some copper drain bolt washers for the cylinders. Ended up with Dowty washers, which have a rubber seal in the centre. Never used those before, but hopefully will be fine. Once the engine is in, I can finalise the chain run, and length. And in a change of plan, I may get the frame powdercoated before it goes up to Mutts. I can add protection to the tubes if necessary - it needs pipes making - and it seems mad to start having to drain fluids and stripping a new loom off the bike for powdercoat, so once I know all components work with the frame, I will strip it before it's trip to Dave. Swingarm has to come out anyway to fit the chain protector - can only do that when I know the run of the chain, so it makes sense. I was at Jamie's yesterday and looking at a Chesterfield rep motorcross frame he has just powdercoated in red - looked stunning ! If he could match the powder to my red stripe on the tank... ?? Dusty

Does anyone know the name of the company?

Will do Mr K Thanks Reg. I think the Dowty washers will be fine. Always had copper before but these will do the job. When I was buying the washers yesterday, I noticed a large tub of assorted braided hoses. Turns out they were hoses that were made up, and for some reason or other, not sold. £5 a hose ! So I went back today, and found the longest hose they had, got them to cut it in half and add the correct banjo ends for my bike. A shade over £19 for 2 Aeroquip brake lines and 10 copper washers; 20190619_105133 by dusty miller, on Flickr That would normally be between 20 - 25 quid per hose, so happy with that And I had ordered 1 of the mini projector beam lights to see how it looks. It's the smallest I've managed to find that is street legal; 20190619_144611 by dusty miller, on Flickr Small enough for what I want so I've ordered the other one. One is dip, the other main beam. I've finalised the front plate and brackets so I've now got to decide how to orientate the lights in the plate. Either side by side or one above the other etc. Jamie messaged me this afternoon to tell me the side casing is done ! He was using black on other parts so did mine at the same time. I will pick it up tomorrow, but this is the "before" pic; 64806312_2346615298961176_6481569531901771776_n by dusty miller, on Flickr And finally, I lapped the Power Dynamo rotor onto the crank today; 20190619_151534 by dusty miller, on Flickr Another job done. Ordered some bits from Norbo today to finish off the engine. Plus I will talk to Jamie tomorrow about shades of red powder that could match my tank. Dusty

I went to the same brake place today Dusty. Got them to make a one off for the drag bike front brake. £13. Bargain. Going back when I have the LC's brakes fitted to get some tailor made ones, bloke says about £15 each. They do all sorts in there, rad hoses as well...

Hi mate Yea, they are good. They used to be in Twickenham and it was a bit of a trek to go over there. Really happy when they moved to Ashford !! They do all sorts - if you need any sort of bike/car plumbing, they have it all. They do a lot of race stuff, and it's pretty trick. Brake lines are quite expensive now so £13 is a bargain. Main issue is there is no adjustment with swaged fittings so you have to get your angles exact as there is no changing them afterwards. Dusty

Picked the casing up off Jamie today; 20190620_190627 by dusty miller, on Flickr He powderdcoated it once, but some pitting was still showing through - it was quite a rough case, so he rubbed it down and did another coat. He also dressed out some scratches, and polished up the Yamaha lettering ! He absolutely loves doing all this and it shows. He will definitely be doing my frame and other bits when I'm ready. Tonight I fitted the PD stator; 20190620_184408 by dusty miller, on Flickr The wiring grommet turned up from Norbo - thanks mate - so I could pass the wires through the case and fit that in place. Rotor is on temporarily - will let Dave sort that when the bike goes up to his place; 20190620_190516 by dusty miller, on Flickr I popped to my Fasteners place today to pick up some M4 bolts for the headlights. Hopefully the second light will turn up tomorrow or Saturday. Next week I will take my CAD model to Clive so he can make my front light mount - probably in steel and I will get it powdercoated, although I do have a sheet of 3mm ally which would do the job. I think steel may form and bend a bit better, and the plasma cutter seems to cut steel more cleanly. May be able to get the engine in the frame over the weekend too, and then I can sort a chain. Final fit for the clutch case today; 20190621_195448 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20190621_195443 by dusty miller, on Flickr I've swapped the stator case off the orange hybrid. As it's been drilled I felt it would suit this build better. And I cant find the water pump gasket anywhere, so ordered another from Fowlers And 1 exhaust stud that was missing. Hopefully that is the engine finished now. Dusty

Thanks fellas Yea, I do like the silver head against the barrels. The red bits, and the polished bits give it the contrast that it needs. Alex, don't worry, a new gasket is arriving today from Fowlers - keep the one I gave you. I had one in a Yamaha packet that I ordered at the start of the build - that's the one I cant find. I do have a new clear Perspex water pump cover I got from Cyberdyne, when I got the clutch case, and that uses an "O" ring, but it will be no good under the standard cover as you wont see it ! So I bought a new standard plate off Norbo, so will fit that with the new gasket. I rubbed down the plastic water/oil pump cover last night, so will spray that up today to give it a refresh. The stator cover just needs a polish and that can bolt on when I've sorted the chain; 20190622_075803 by dusty miller, on Flickr Once the engine is in I can fit everything else I have and make sure everything lines up. I will need to get an oil tank made which will mean drilling some holes under the seat to fit it. There is one other thing it will need to go back to Clive for - the footrest mount bolts on the left side have nylocs that protrude into the area of the chain run, so I think I will need threaded spacers welded onto the frame mounting plate. That way the bolts for the footrest plate wont pass through the frame plate and interfere with the chain. May do the other side as well although it's not as important. My Pwk's will need the autolube mod doing on them, hopefully Mutts can do that, and I need to work out which would be the best clutch cable to use - I'm guessing F2 ? Still unsure whether to go with a gloss black frame or red ? Jamie has the colour swatches for the powder but they are limited. He did a frame in a Honda red that looked fantastic, but it would have to be exact to match the stripe on the tank, and I don't know if I will be that lucky ! I still think black is my safe bet, and will make the other bits stand out more. I've finalised the size and shape of the front headlight mount - just need to decide where I want the lights to go ie, top middle or bottom of the plate. Side by side will look best. Still lots of little bits to sort Dusty

Hi Dusty. For the correct clutch cable I used a piece of air line pipe used in fish tanks to simulate the correct outer cable length and threaded a piece of copper wire used in the household electrics to simulate the inside cable. Both ends of the wire were pushed into a ball to act as the nipples. I took this down to my local bike breaker and asked for a Yamaha clutch cable the same size as my sample. I think it was a cable from an FZ which they gave me. Anyway being a genuine cable it had a silky smooth action and was cheap.

F2 or n1 should do the clutch cable
May have both if you need a measurement or a loan

Thanks guys. Toby - great idea. Not easy to find something that you can easily measure with. Steve - yea I reckon F2 etc due to the clip on set up. I will let you know how I get on. I can try the clutch cable off the orange hybrid to see how close or far off it is. Really pleased with the clutch case Veg, and Simon was keen to get it exactly how I wanted it (powdercoat instead of paint etc ). I would happily recommend his cases. The water pump gasket turned up today, so that went on with the new metal cover. When I got home this afternoon from walking the dog, I decided to get the engine in the frame. It's a bit of a jiggle but not too bad. I found it easier to remove the spark plugs as you have to lift the engine up to get it between the rear mounts, but it was fairly easy after that; 20190622_165848 by dusty miller, on Flickr I sprayed up the plastic water and oil pump cover this morning, so fitted that, along with some hoses, refitted the rad, fitted the ht caps which I didn't realise were black until I got them out of the box, but I actually think they look better black. I'm going to add gearbox oil to check for leaks but will leave the coolant system dry until after the final build. This is the first time the complete engine has been fitted, and everything seems to line up as it should ! 20190622_181015 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20190622_180955 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20190622_181004 by dusty miller, on Flickr Feel I've achieved a milestone. Never gone to this extent with a build before, and really happy that everything slots into place. Bit more head scratching to do, but the hardest bits are done, I think ! Dusty

Now the engine is in the frame, I think red wont work - it will be too much. Pretty sure I will go with black, either satin or gloss. I want the engine to stand out, and I think a red frame will detract from that. There is a lot of white on the bike, and white/black is a good combo, with some red to add a bit of colour. The only other colour I may add is for the front headlight mount/number board, just so it looks like a number board with the headlights cut in. Dusty
