Fitted a new brake hose a while back and it's scuffing the swing arm, as far as i'm aware the hose is fitted correctly. Any ideas on how to prevent this?? Tony PICT2583 by Anthony Baker, on Flickr

Hi mate,
You are missing a guide exactly at that spot.

Bizarre I just looked at the F1 and F2 parts books and dont see it either, weird. Its a looped piece of flat steel with folded edges, I thought I had a photo but cant find one. :/

I'd say it's not the guide that is the problem
The line is slightly too long.
Even with the guide fitted the line will still hit the swinger when the bike squats

Thanks Guys, Is it possible to cut them down?? Tony Yes, but if the ends are crimped you will need to cut off the old one and will need one new banjo end and olive. If they are the screw on type, you can reuse it so all you will need is the brass olive. You will also need a decent pair of cutters to cleanly snip the hose. I am assuming that you have made up braided hoses before? If not, may be better to get someone to help as brakes are obviously something you can't take chances with.

Morning All,
It was suggested that the brake hose may be to long, i have recently purchased another hose and to be honest there isn't much in it, 3-4mm so i can't see this making a difference.
There must be other owners out there with braided rear hoses on standard swings arms, what have you done different to prevent this.

Haven’t done anything different
Your hose is too long by about 3/4”
You will also find that the original rubber hose is of larger diameter and thus is a snug fit into the bracket, so a cut pice of rubber placed over your line may well solve your issue as well

Did the original hose have a rubber grommet on that went into the guide or was it just the hose itself ? on Fowlers parts list it looks just like a hose. Thanks Tony

Hi Tony,
Being 'off the shelf' doesn't guarantee them being the correct size, unless it's a Yamaha shelf and even then the parts can be wrong or superseded... Try to find an original to measure if you want to be totally clear. It shouldn't be rubbing the swing arm.

Hi reggieperrin, I threw the original away when i fitted the hose that's on it now, didn't think about comparing the two at the time. Maybe someone on the forum still has an original and could measure it for me.
