Good luck Des, it's a routine op nowadays so I'm sure you'll be fine. Give it 6 months and you'll be looking to get back into race reps - rearsets no longer a problem !! Plus you'll be good in time for the summer to start (again) And get well soon 14 cheeks. Sounds like a real c**ktail you have there. Don't know about the rest, but that Diazapam is gooood sh*t !! Probably done this already, but have you seen an Osteopath ? Most GP's are a waste of time when it comes to backs, in my experience. When you get to the point of losing bladder and bowl control, without the excessive consumption of alcohol, then the damage is done unfortunately. Sounds like your Sciatic nerve is getting grief - leg pain is a classic symptom when a prolapsed disc presses on the nerve. I am certainly no expert, but having an ongoing struggle with my own prolapsed discs makes you research it all a bit. Good luck, I'm sure there's more than a few of us here that know how you feel.

I had a bad back for a short time last year and it was hellish. I wouldn't have wished it on my worst enemy.

Dusty Dusty... Been there done that.... One minute the MRI scan shows that the discs are compressing the S1 nerve, next month all is well - hence why the didn't operate. Never felt pain like it when that nerve was being compressed..... Thanks for the well wishes.... Nick

Hi Nick I feel for you mate. My L5/S1 and L5/L4 discs are knacked from degenerative wear. Everyday feels like I'm lying on a tennis ball Too many years of awkward/heavy lifting I spose. I had physio at my hospital (NHS) and that was a waste of time - they never manipulated my back at all, just gave me a printout off the internet of exersizes to do. My Osteopath used to be a Fireman with me years ago. He retrained, left the Service and started his own practice. Any flare up in my back and he is my first port of call. Good luck and hope you feel better soon. Regards Dusty

Totally agree Nick I've had L5/S1 fused and was in agony for the 8 months before that, sciatic pain is the worst you can have, GP said it was muscle spasm, after 3 letters from the physios I went to a neurosurgeon who told me I needed the fusion 1.5 years of rehab and I was back riding bikes again
If your pain is down near your foot that is bad, if its up near your backside that's actually better, if your toes are getting numb that's a sound case for surgery
To all above who are having knees all the best with them, ask Gary its worth it in the end

That's bad news. I went private on the choose and book scheme. Make sure you have all the info about the partial, I have heard they don't last as long. I had two complete knees although only the inside of both had worn out. This was because I am only 51 and the surgeon wanted them to last as long as possible. If I was a lot older two partials would have sorted it.

so are the hospital picking you up? hope you feel better soon.. Nope at home, self administering the meds myself...... Watch it with the liquid morphine buddy, it can be a real laxative, you don't wanna be on the throne all day and night. I'm permanently on morphine in tablet form due to spine and nerve damage. Naproxen and tramadol weren't touching me but the gabapentin is good for nerve damage if you get the dosage right. Morphine will knock you about at first but persevere and your body will adapt matey. I find Its best to take just enough to take the edge off the pain to get it to tolerable levels, then I can still function. Take too much and you're a zombie. Best of luck, hope things get better soon buddy.
