However some people prefer to paint or to powder coat metalwork, it all depends on how anal you want to get.

Factory Finish?? Cheap Ass spray paint. One can easily equal the factory Paint work with a Rattle Can... True Powdercoats 'look' wrong' IMO a Fools' exercise. But Hey! fill Yer Boots.

I would spray every time, maybe the frame and swing arm but the original would have been spray painted, I find powder coating loses a lot of detail as it is quite thick!

I once painted a GS 1000 frame by hand with normal black gloss paint from Dulux and a very small paint brush. It took ages to do and i was very surprised at the result. My mates knew i painted it myself but they all said that they thought it was sprayed. I would not do this again unless i was retired or needed therapy Ha HA. At the time i was a bit skint.

Thanks, This is a great help for me, but think I'll be painting plenty "green" bits and going for new stainless bolts!

I'm pretty sure they were a spray finish

A slight diversion - Just wondered if anyone has used the tough black satin stuff that's quoted by quite a few people on here in high wear areas like the front foot peg mounts, horns, top yoke and if it stood up the wear ok ?

hi used hammerite on top yoke and centre and side stand, it was a satin finish and looks a treat, real hard wearing too, just be becareful to spray a few light coats don't try to cover in one thick coat!!
