Just fitted a spare clutch cable to the resto, and the operation is now awful and hard to pull lever to the bars, is it likely to just be a rubbish cable or the routing (from bars, past clock bracket and through metal 'frame bar' on headstock, (the little wire bracket)
If it's the cable as I suspect, are Norbo's any good, or should I just buy genuine, was ok before the stripdown, from memory, although I only got to ride it once.

I've found that OEM cables are Excellent. Typically the inner cable falls out when the thing is upended. One from a later Yama model has both ends threaded allowing for easier adjustments and a far more secure grip on the engine case that the old Valvie cable spring clamp.

Me too, I am having problems with my clutch cable...I think I got it from Wemoto and it's too long and I have had to use a nut for a spacer where I believe there should be an adjuster on top of the crank cases before the clutch operating arm (of which I am missing that retaining clamp weird shaped bit of metal that stops the operating arm from popping up)
Strat.

strat ,I had that same sort of trouble years ago the end of the cable would come out of the clutch actuating arm ,bugger.oh a quick fix try a clutch lever adjuster on the crankcase end.

Yes it was a pattern one, I think the genuine cables have a nylon type inner?? the old one was slightly frayed, so I binned that and found this one as a spare, think this will go the same way. Anyone used Norbo's cables and can comment, £30 for an original makes me choke a little It's on an LC, not YPVS.

There is no adjuster on top of the case, just the clip to hold it in place. The problem with a lot of cables (new pattern and old stretched yam ) is the inners are too long so adjustment is difficult. I have a pattern lc2 one on my hybrid which is the correct length but is not Teflon lined so a bit heavier. The 1st cable is shorter due to it having clip ons and has a right angle at the lever end which depending on your lever angle makes it wrong. Early R6 clutch cable fits, is Teflon lined and has a threaded adjuster at the crankcase end that bolts to the cable mount. Steve

Ones I see are a little dearer with 20 quid post and the risk of import tax. Lc2 cable is nla from yam but have seen people selling an air cooled cable saying it is the same, any body verify this Steve

I visited a bike breakers today and saw an 98 R1 clutch cable today the bottom bit was straight threaded and the top piece was straight with no adjustment. I also bought an FZR 600 cable which was quite a bit shorter and suits the needs of my bike better. Both had made in Japan written on them. What really struck me was the diameter of the actual wire cables i would guess the fzr cable was 30% thicker. They were asking 20 euros for the R1 cable and 15 euros for the FZR cable. (secondhand) I also have not got a clue how it must be fitted but i think it is not so tidy as on an LC.

R u all tight on this forum ? Don't like seeing fellow LC enthusiast getting ripped off. Not all members are as clued up on price & availability of spares. Too many eBay sellers taking advantage listing items as "rare" even tho they are still available from main dealers spares dept, eg: RARE LC indicators priced at £70 a pair which are approx £25 each from Yamaha.
