Hi, Went and had a look at this for a mate a week or so ago as it's near me. He ended up getting something else, and as bidding was slow, I had a punt and won it It's a Tzr125 4dl I think, with a Ypvs motor fitted. When I went to look the owner started it and it ran ok. It's got a gearbox oil leak and exhaust gaskets are knackered. The small pipe is horrible, as is the paintwork ! The list of bad bits may be longer than the list of good !! Have these got a plastic tank ? I know nothing about these so it's going to be a steep learning curve. It will either be another special project or back on ebay. We'll see I'll post some pics when I get it in the next day or so. Dusty

I looked at that as well . Worth a punt for the engine but £900 was too rich for me .

you have to keep it and carry out an extensive de-uglification , the idea is great but the result is horrible (but thats just my opinion)
looking forward to your build thread
good luck

Hi, Certainly an ugly betty bike !! It's got a Mito seat unit with a rough looking subframe. Whoever chopped up the Micron pipe needs their welder taken off them ! The seller bought it like this though, so until I pick it up I wont know much more. Here are some pics I took when I viewed it; I think it would look a lot better with a standard subframe and seat unit and obviously pipes. Dusty

I saw this as well and if I hadn't got my 4dl I think I would have had a look. Do you mind if I ask how much you paid?
Not sure if you've seen my project t thread but preparing to build a 4dl 350. I'd be very interested in some details on the engine mounts.
They do indeed have a plastic tank. Weight I suppose. Front and rear fuel taps on the tank. Of you try to find the original 4dl fairings ( which I think look amazing) then good luck. There's a guy with some in Greece on eBay but he wants to sell the whole lot for about £300. Not a bad price really but I wanted just a couple of bits.
What carbs is it running and where abouts are you geographically speaking.

Yeah they are weird. Comes out, goes back a bit then U-bends back to the front and bends round to follow the other Exhuast with the silencer sitting just by the oil pump. Very very strange set up. I'll be doing my Zoroaster either side I think.

Hi, Andyam, I am in Ashford, near Heathrow (Middlesex). I did see your rebuild thread and thought it would make a really nice special. I am not into fairings so I wouldn't fit any to this bike. Hoping to pick it up tomorrow if I can get a van sorted. I paid £920.00 for it off ebay. The seller is gutted as he thought it would make £2k !! I thought no more than £1k tops. Until I get it and have a really good look, I don't know if I'll keep it or sell it on. Bit of an impulse buy really, as I had some money left from the Ducati sale that was burning a hole in my pocket !. It Is ugly at the mo but with a proper original style seat and subframe, single headlight and better instruments, paint, spit and polish it would look a different bike. It is a runner though and apart from a dodgy gearshaft seal and knackered exhaust seals it ran well enough. Think it's a 1UA motor with powerjet carbs which look a snug fit. K&n style filters mounted upwards using plumbing waste pipe I believe !! Someone has fabricated a nice little alloy oil tank and it's running a pump. Battery is under the tank along with virtually everything else ! If you wanted to copy the engine mounts once I have it home you are welcome.
Regards
Dusty

Cheers Dusty I may well take you up on that offer. I'm just down in worthing west sussex so not too far away. Yeah 2k is along way off whats its worth in its current condition imo.
If you need any more info on the 4dls then give me a shout. Theres a couple of sub frames on ebay at reasonable prices at the moment but its the seat units you'll sturggle with. Theres a couple of tanks on there too if you were looking at swapping that.
TZR125R 4dl 4hw 4hx 3ma 3xv 4fl tzr125r tzr125rr
might come in useful for ebay searching

Cheers Andyyam, Got the bike delivered here yesterday. Going to upload some pics in a minute. Does the bodywork, tank etc from all the models you listed fit this frame ?

Hi Ugly Betty landed in my garage last night, kindly delivered by owner Cole. Cole has an unbelievable collection of bikes, 25+ and is a two stoke Yam fan most of all. He swapped a van for the Tzr that was owned by his mate. This was about a year ago. His mate was doing an engineering night school course, and this was his engineering project apparently. Now it is in need of a makeover, and the Mito seat doesn't suit the lines of the bike, and some other design features are quirky, but it does seem to be well put together. Here are some pics; The seat sub frame looks rough, but there has been a lot of work put into it; The bike is running an oil pump, and there is a neat, custom oil tank fitted; The cut out is to clear the fuel pipe feed from the tank. A custom frame has been made to mount the headlights and digi dash together; An alloy plate has been used behind the sprocket to get the chain run correct; Now the left pipe is certainly odd, and you have to wonder if it will work properly, but someone must have spent hours on this; The frame needs some work to get this engine to fit. Front cradle; Tie bars reversed; And the frame modded so the top mounting bolt can be used with new top mounts welded onto the frame; A battery box has been welded into the front of the frame; Ally bosses have been welded to the frame spars to allow the servo motor fitment; The carbs don't have much room, and the choke has been modded so you operate it via a handlebar mounted cable; The motor is a 1wt, carbs are powerjets and filters are mounted on plumbing waste pipe ; Handlebar mounts are another questionable design; It does run, all the lights, indicators and horn works. Don't know what to do with it yet. I have looked around the net and there are some nice specials based around this model. Won't be touching it till next year now though so I've plenty of time to think about it ! Dusty

Not 100%. The 3xv wa quite different but i think the majority of the rest were the same. My model is the TZR125RR and heres a link to the parts manual. parts.takaoka-vl.ru/?make=yamaha&model=663there should be all of them on there though. Some interesting adaptions there. I have been told that most of the mounts are very simple and shouldnt need much modding of the frame if any. The guy I bought my Laverda special off told me he had done one before on that model and said it was fairly easy. Keep it! and do it justice!

Hi, Cheers for the link Andy. I will have to do some research ! For somebody with the skills and tools anything is possible. There has been a lot of time put into this just to get the engine to fit. I know there is another Tzr350 rebuild thread and that has a different type of front cradle.

Any reason why you still need the tie bars? thought this would be a way of getting rid of them, KR1 engines just hang off two frame mounts. Some work looks very professional, and some a bit suspect, like two people were working on it together??

like two people were working on it together?? Laurel and Hardy? !! Seriously, it does look like some nice work has gone into it and it's got great potential. My vision would be a different seat unit, big round headlamp and clip on bars

Dusty Yeah I've seen a few build threads. on the 125cc sports bike forum theres a few build threads for the tzr350's. One of which takes many changes along the way by rob on that forum. www.125ccsportsbikes.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=94458

Hi, Thanks for the offer of fiches/help and links fellas. Much appreciated. From what Cole said, I believe the guy running the engineering course may have done the welding plus other bits and bobs. The welding that's been done is certainly very neat and not done by an amateur. I wonder if the short exhaust was made that way to hide inside a fairing originally, so the bike, at first glance, would look like a 125 ? Just a guess. I bought the bike for it's potential really, certainly not for how it looks at the moment The Yamasaki is not far off being done and it would have been easy to spend what money I had left on it, and then having not enough cash for another project. With the rising prices of two strokes at the mo I thought it a good time to get another project bike. Lots of ideas spinning around at the mo. I like the idea of a single headlight, proper instruments, straight bars, proper exhausts and a different seat, either standard 4dl or maybe a race seat that suits the lines of the bike. Frame either powdercoated or rubbed down for a satin finish. Maybe dayglow wheels ! The swingarm is a big old beast, makes my Kr1 arm look tiny, and I bet the handling would be fantastic. It's been relegated to the shed down the garden for the foreseeable future as I am in the middle of ripping out and refurbing my bathroom, but I will be throwing ideas and questions out in the meantime !! Regards Dusty
