Love the yellow , too many mars bars about Mike Hi Mike, The "B" road in the pics is the B 743 and the pics were taken between Sorn and Muirkirk, which is basically the middle of no where, approx 30 miles or so South of Glasgow. The pics up on the hill looking out to Arran and Troon harbour were taken from the top of Dundonald hill, where they have the radio mast for Prestwick airport, on a clear day you can see the Mull of Kintyre and Ireland from up there. The pic with the LC and the Honda firestorm/fireplace were taken at the ferry terminal at Brodick on the Isle of Arran. In the 70,s 80,s and even into the 90,s the Isle of Arran was always full of bikes during the summer with people from all over the place, they even used to draft in more police during the summer for all the "bikers" that used to come over. An old "biker" at work told me that in the 70,s the magazine Back Street Heroes did an article about Arran saying that it was a "bikers" heaven, but how true this is I dont know, as I never saw the article. There were always loads of bikes running about during the summer on Arran, and loads of bands and stuff in the pubs at night, it was a good atmosphere and generaly a great time, there were of course the few "bad apples" and I think thats why the extra police were drafted in during the summer. Do any of our Scottish members remember going to Arran in the 70,s or 80,s ps....in my humble opinion, there is no such thing as "too many mars bar LC,s"..... ....but it takes all kinds to make a world, and each to their own. kind regards, steven.

Hi, Got my tank and pannels back from Kas Racepaint yesterday, after 6 months (27 weeks and 1 day.) I was told initialy 8 weeks. The total cost was £522. That was with a £30 discount for the delay, and the £50 courier cost for the return postage waived. It is slightly more than I thought it was going to be, and it took a wee bit longer than I thought it would, but in fairness to Kas Racepaint, throughout, I told Paul at Kas Racepaint I was in no rush to have the work done. I am not a painter/sprayer, but I have looked at loads of bikes, and pictures of bikes and in particular LC,s and I would say that the quality is as good and if not better than anything Iv seen. I am delighted with the quality, workmanship and detail, and I have not even seen it in daylight yet. Im not too sure what to do with them now.. They are too perfect to put on the bike, the V5 still says yellow, as I wasnt changing it over to black, till I got my tank etc back. Something in my head is telling me to suitably preserve them and put them in the loft, as they will probably be the best set of LC body work I will ever have my hands on. Will get them on the bike, and out in the sunshine for some pictures....when ever we get some sunshine that is. steven.

Saves rushing to put the kettle on too when visitors arrive. They'll be too pre occupied with your RD to worry about having a cuppa

Hi, Thanks for the kind words, for the past couple of years or so, when I open the door to visitors, most of them usualy say "have you no got that efin thing finished yet ?!
I dont know if it is finished yet or not? must still be something to bugger about with surely? Ill need to finish running it in, its only got 200 miles or so on it, so its not finished. Will get some more scenic pics of it when the sun comes back out. steven.

Hi, Thanks for the replys. I have found my self gathering bits and pieces to build a 4L1, as I have all the bits to build one of them, so that might happen in the near future, but I would also like to restore my Zed too, so we will see. My younge lady friend didnt say anything about me running it in the hall, I dont think she can smell any fumes from her sink anyway, as the kitchen is a fair bit away from the hall ! I know everyone has different ideas about running an engine in. I do not subscribe to this "run it in on the warm up lap" malarky as it goes against everything I have ever been taught. I have always run engines in as per the makers spec, wheather it be a lawn mower or an oil tanker, I run it in as per the book, and never had any problems related to the running in procedure. I have a 1980 Yamaha LC owners manual, a first edition dated Feb 1980 (part no 4L1-28199-80) and rightly or wrongly I am running it in as per what it says in there. It says.... 0-300 miles = Not above 4000 rpm. 300-600 miles = Not above 5000 rpm. 600 miles and beyond = Avoid prolonged full throttle operation and avoid speeds in excess of 7000 rpm. I have been taking compression readings at various stages of running it in, and it is currently showing 130 psi on both cylinders. The most noticeable difference in the compression figures was noticed after the first 50 miles, it hasnt increased much above that figure since, so that mabey increses the argument for the "run it in on the warm up lap" brigade, but Im not a racer and only plan to use it for ride outs on sunny days etc. So...with 200 miles on it at present, it is only 1/3 run in, Iv still got 400 miles to go, all I need now is some sunshine to get out on it. steven.

...had a grand day. I got up and listned to the TT online. Then I went out and did 75 miles on my LC in the sunshine. I came home in time to put the LC to its bed and watch the TT on the telly... Im up to 5 thousand revs now, and it goes fine. My speedo has most definetly ran a big end, as at 5 thousand revs the speedo says 75 mph which is actualy realy good as I was only on mostly empty back roads and I spent the afternoon playing at being Michael Dunlop and Guy Martin and all them ! Im having dificulties coming to terms with the USED look, as opposed to the "never been out the house" look. I had a minor dribble of two stroke from the right hand exhaust, so nipped up the exhaust studs a bit. Had to lub the brand new chain for the first time, and now has the obligotary splashes of oil on the back wheel. There is dust and stoor all over it, and the cherry on the cake is, I have the cold this week, and my nose must have been running and dripping onto the top of the tank... ....eeewwww ! Heavy rain forecast for tommorow steven.
