Started jetting these old school Mikuni power jet carbs. They have no provision for idle. The first time I started the bike it was a bit fluffy and when riding any more than 1/4 throttle the engine would cut out. I dropped the pilot jets down from 70’s to 60’s and main jets down from 240’s to 190’s. Started without that fluffy feeling but was even worse to ride. Upped the main jets to 300’s, still sounds good at idle and small improvement with riding but still cutting out. With the chokes pulled open it doesn’t cut out and I had the feeling I was sitting on the back of a scolded cat. Just a feeling as this engine has newly honed cylinders and new pistons so not even a mile on it yet. The next step is to try some 400 main jets and double check the float heights. Not had much time lately for playing with bikes and only had an hour on this before it got dark. As you can see this bike isn’t very roadworthy. All testing was done on a private track!

Old tat to be put in the for sale section shortly. You need to turn the clutch cable wire clip around so it holds the clutch cable away from your clock cover before it scuffs it up. :-)

freddie19, defo worth the effort to get a dating certificate with your V5 dates, all the best So I ordered the dating letter from Yamaha for my RZ350 a couple of days ago and it arrived today, that's super quick. I am £50 lighter though!😵💫 It confirms my build date of November 1984 so come December 1st I can register the old girl as Historic and mot exempt. And...... April 1st next year she'll be tax free as well. So all in all well worth the £50 I guess!😁

Old tat to be put in the for sale section shortly. Nice job, and clocks correctly mounted too. I saw the comment re the cable diverter. I'm guessing that's a mph overlay, not sure how close to standard you want to go, but usually that's a sign of a partially converted km clock. Keep an eye out to see if the odometer has been converted to miles, if not that will trip over in kms and looks like you have been further than you thought. The other is ghosting through of the old digits when riding at night. Both of these drive a few people potty. Me included!

Mark does an excellent job but generally there is a long waiting list, I'd be tempted to look local to where you are as there will be good paintshops that can and will do the paintwork for you.

You could try Mark Cordwell, Chris Griffin or Mike Searson, all do great work, just depends the time frame each can do it to and how urgent it is to you to get it done I suppose?

We have some superb painters near us, I may try one. Does anybody have the spec of the White and Red colours in their heads?

Took my V5 and V112 to the Post Office this morning. Walked out in under 3 minutes with a receipt for £0, half of the V5 and a taxed, now historic bike. Why do I have a lingering feeling that that was just too easy ?

Took the Gray Ghost out for a final test ride. Running great. Temperature was 195 degrees as I merged onto I-66 for a little high speed run and I accelerated to 80 MPH. Temperature spiked to 221 and the left cylinder went away. No boiling over and no loss of coolant or white smoke. Temperature dropped to 175 and I knew if I shut it off it wouldn't be starting again and I was 8 miles from home so I limped back to the shop on the RH cylinder at 45 MPH. I pulled the plugs and both were dark but the LH plug looked like it had dark flakes on it. I did a compression test. RH cylinder 108 ( not great ). LH cylinder 0 ( really not great). I am guessing there is now an extra window in the LH piston crown. I uncovered the Phoenix Project and checked it over as it hadn't been started in 3 months. I pulled one fuel line off of the Gray Ghost and got my funnel and gas can and drained the fuel while I was test riding the Phoenix. All went well on the test ride so I put it up on the lift and gave it a quick detail, checked the chain adjustment and greased the swingarm. Deals Gap lineup has changed to White RZ,, Phoenix Project and 75 RD350. I don't have time to investigate the Gray Ghost further as I have a 6 day work week this week so I need to prep the trailer and start packing as I can in the mornings this week plus get all the other normal life crap done before I go. I am grateful this happened here and not on the Dragon or somewhere in the mountains of East TN where there is no cell service. The Gray Ghost will live again..

Bit like Jessy03, my LC has sat idle for just over 2.5 years, i've been distracted by other toys but on Saturday pulled it out ,changed the air filter, fuel lines , gear oil and with some fresh fuel , away she went. Shame I lost the bloody number plate or I could have taken it for a spin, handily I picked one up at the Stafford show yesterday . Back in the game now anyway but I was shocked to see how parts prices have risen in that 2.5 years!

Popped to the Super Sausage for lunch , got chatting to the owners of these XSR replica's, ive seen them at the bike show but in the flesh, I thought the aesthetics quite an impressive homage to the originals. LC felt marvelous to be out on again.

LC2 fronted Naked F1. Filled and bled front callipers, came to a stop on rear as no bleed nipples that would fit; Filled, primed and adjusted oil pump, problem with quality of cable. Filled forks with oil. Finished rewiring, fitting and setting up headlight. Finished the rebuild now pretty much apart from tank. Never again will I pay any money for boxes of bits without a list of all parts to verify completeness and half the price I actually paid.
