If its that rusty outside how rusty will the inside of the engine be? (I assume one port will always be open to the elements)

If its that rusty outside how rusty will the inside of the engine be? (I assume one port will always be open to the elements) that was my first thought, i did a 350 ypvs in a similar state but had been used regularly so motor internals were good. lying not getting used in the damp is disasterous. steve

everybody knows the formula for restoring bikes if you really want your bike to be worth say £6000 when you finish it, (if they are ever finished) it's simple, just spend about £7500 !!

the way the motor is was my biggest worry but as long as the bores aren't deeply pitted that should be ok
frame has come up well

when doing a rebuild on a bike i never look at o much its costing as i never sell them after they are done but this bike is money in the bank in 10 years o much is this gona be worth ... there is never any profit in rebuilding old bikes as it cost to much money and time to do this ...its just a labour of love and to see the bike look nice at the end

How easily did the front two engine/casing bolts come out. They are probably the worst idea I've seen so far on some cases, a direct hit for any road grime/water/salt etc.
Are you getting new cranks from America, or these ones rebuilt?? not hanging about on this one.

Gus off the rzrd500 forum did sets of new cranks but there was a posting a few months back saying last few sets left only, with that they all sold within days. There is a hint that he may get some more manufactured but the amount needed to make it viable and the amount of people willing to commit to purchasing means it probably will not happen. Rich.

Hi Chez , Well I'll say you have a strong heart to take this challenge ..... man thats one of the worst 500's I've come across ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) So low mileage and left outside that's crazy ..... did the owner die ( sudden heart attack ) or something..... You need to talk to your banker thats for sure. Regarding the cranks you ask in USA ..... look up Wicked Roger highly recommended !!! He is your man .... wickedatv.com/Wicked Motorsports Inc. 10552 Stanford Ave. Garden Grove, CA 92840 The United States My Credentials:(site is 25% up)www.wickedatv.com 1-714-530-2215 fax 1-714-530-2217 Temporary E-mail: bak268msc@aol.com I found this RD 500 LC and waiting owner to consider my offer .... Enjoy....... Driving with one hand , the other holding camera just to show you guys how she performs ....was not prepared for a ride so no helmet , I know - I know ......

Meh,we get those sorta bikes as everyday riders down here......lol. Seriously tho, you'd def become a master at the rusty nut/bolt removal.Would be good to see some of your techinques. Hard to believe thats the same frame & rims.Looking real good already!Tell me,I have posted this question elsewhere, regarding rust on the inside of the frame & ways to fix it? You have any idea's on this?

As Petros said, it was Gus on the 500 forum, and also Vito's performance were selling cranks too, but I 'think' they all came from the same source. See you're on the RZ forum now though, all you questions will be answered on there, some very clever guys on there, as there is on most forums. www.rz500.net/RZRD_PROTO/index_3.html

Cripes, that was bad, I thought the frame for sure was beyond repair after viewing the first few pics.
Looking forward to all the updates and pics, you've done better than I could already!
