Hi Folks, I posted this question on the other forum but I have been waiting for about 4 days for it to be approved. I have a '82 350lc with a ypvs fitted which I want to get rebuilt, can anybody recommend a builder in my neck of the woods, Fife, Scotland. The water pump failed and leaked into the gearbox a couple of years ago and I got scunnered, threw a cover over it and pushed it to the back of the garage. I am not looking for a race tune, just a stock "reliable" runner. Any indication of how much this may cost barring any major disasters, I know its how long is a piece of string but ball park indications are all that I am after. Any advise or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Try Armstrong racing in Newcastle or get a haynes manual and rebuild it yourself they are not a difficult engine to pull apart/put together

Only 2 'special' tools required - flywheel puller & clutch holding tool. Should be able to pick both up for about £25 If you are able to get engine out of frame you should be capable to strip engine - just take plenty of pics as you go. Haynes manuals (on cd) available on ebay for about £3

I'd second Armstrongs in Newcastle. Build a good race motor as well

Done my first bike engine at 15 with no special tools. Depends how bad things were when it broke. You say the water pump went, did anything else go wrong? If not, flush out the oil a few times to get rid of the water and get the pump fixed, some oil in the bores, carbs cleaned out and see if it fires up and how it sounds. Norbo can do you an exchange crank (probably best if yours has been lying a while) If you need a rebore then either contact Grampians ( can also do the crank) and send them yourself or Jim Allan Motorcycles in Falkirk have always been helpful for me. If any rebuilds have needed special tools or there has been something I could not do Ihave taken the engine/parts to them and they will sort it for a small charge. They also use Grampians. Dare say they would rebuild the motor for you but would cost a lot more. Crank - £300 Bore and pistons - £150 Gaskets - £30 PV bushes and seals - £125 Labour - £100 - £200 i'd guess Would not know what it needs untill stripped. Might think the crank will be ok but unless you know when it was last rebuilt then not worth risking it. And all that without cleaning/painting so frightening to add up. Also in Falkirk is Lyndene Engineering who do vapour blasting and polishing if you need that.
