hi folks I'm trying to remove the graphics from a tail piece they will not peel off, so I've been rubbing the top off with rough sand paper scratching what is left then soaking tissue paper with thinners and laying it on top of whats left so it softens it up. anyone got a better method. cheers Dave

Hairdryer / heat gun? warm the glue and it should soften and peel off?

I was just wondering the very same thing when I was looking at my F2 resurrection project today. Thanks for the tip, I will try the heat treatment next Saturday...

WD40 is pretty good at getting off the old glue, especially on MX bike plastic panels, but works on the RD stuff as well.

never tried it myself, but ive been told if you run a hot bath, then dunk your panels in there, they will start to lift and peel away very easily and cleanly.

Power-shower would be easier, saves all the peeling of the graphics Never heard that one before flames?

a mate had the same prob a few yrs ago.was gunna go self employed spraying.he was doing a mates bike and spent ages trying to sand them down.in the end he foned someone up from dream machine or one of the top sprayers at the time.he was told they werent allowed to tell him how they remove old graphics.however, there was no reason he couldnt tell him how they put them on.they apparently submerse they panel and sticker in warm water to heat the glue and slide it into place.this way they can manipulate it to get it in the rite place.....removal is obv.the reverse process.

from my experience its not hard to remove decals, simply heat them up with a hot air gun/hairdryer then use a plastic filler spreader to lift them off from a corner,if the vinyl stays warm its likley each decal will come off in 1 piece. the removal of the glue is the hardest part,i use white spirit on a rag and a filler spreader to shift it about untill its all removed.pannel wipe also works and is less harsh to the paint below. some decals are laquered over this causes a whole new problem, either use the above method or a 80 grit d.a sander and sand the whole lot off back to bare metal or even paint stripper the whole lot.

Just make sure the wife's not in the bath when you put the panels in....They don't like it for some reason! Never will understand women.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I’d add my experience for what it’s worth. Obviously if they come off clean with one of the techniques above that’s best but unfortunately that didn’t work for me, not sure why.
My decals were original and brittle. I soaked the panels in very hot water and it eventually got the decals off but left the adhesive behind. Tried lots of methods to get it off. The hair dryer is definitely the key. I heated the glue up then used some white spirit on the warm adhesive. I tried other things including WD40, but only white spirit worked for me. After leaving it for a minute I was able to scrape the glue off with a Mark 1 thumbnail. Took a few hours to do all the panels but it all came off clean with no marks on the finish. Result.

Desolveit is great for sticky residue, you can use WD, eucalyptus and other things but this works well for me:
