plastikote bar b paint, were did you get that stuff and when you say rust treatment would that be like a primmer or some other kinda suff, painting not my strong point..can you tell.. B&Q and WILCO sell bbq paint which is heat proof aswell as many brands like pj1 and mipa who sell heat proof paint. my personal choice is mipa as its cheap and very good quality and as these paints are only cellulose or acrylic based i see no real need to bake the paint after as the drying process is only the solvent evaporating,as long as the exhaust's arnt damp or stone cold you shouldnt have a problem. i simply prep my exhausts and make sure there 100% keyed up and finished with 320 grit and a red scotch bright then hang them on my washing line with wire and spray them in the garden in the summer with good results. just remember not to paint over any dirt, grease, shiny paint or deep scratches if you want a nice finish

i did see a company in classic motorcycle mechanic's that sand blast/etch blast your pipes and re-spray them in the original colour stove enamel paint which will be far more durable than any aerosol paint for around £40 a exhaust which i think is very reasonable.

I used Kurust too, great stuff, then 400 grit, U-POL panel prep wipes and PJ1 satin engine and case paint. Results are in the newb from yorkshire thread.I've tried PJ1 1500 degree exhaust paint but I'm not keen on the finish.I would guess you'd only need that for something crazy hot like a tuned Nissan Skyline manifold.

to get round the heating of the pipes had a novel idea used the missus hair dryer taped to the tail for 15 mins surprising how hot they get paint dried instantly

that plasticote BBQ paint gave mine a real nice finish. preparation was a de-grease with some fairy and a sponge scouring pad, rust'n'shit removal with wire brush drill attachment then clean with a Tshirt. sprayed then hung over a radiator in the house for a few days. gave a real nice finish....and because i use fairy, has the added bonus- my hands are so soft and gentle now. great for masturb..wan...doin the dishes

there is realy no need to worry about heating up solvent based paints to help it cure,12 hours at room temp and it will be cured any way
